Iranian ship convoy moves toward Yemen, alarming US officials Post Date: 2015-04-18 02:48:20 by A Pole

U.S. military officials are concerned that Iran's support for Houthi rebels in Yemen could spark a confrontation with Saudi Arabia and plunge the region into sectarian war. Iran is sending an armada of seven to nine ships some with weapons toward Yemen in a potential attempt to resupply the Shia Houthi rebels, according to two U.S. defense officials. Officials fear the move could lead to a showdown with the U.S. or other members of a Saudi-led coalition, which is enforcing a naval blockade of Yemen and is conducting its fourth week of airstrikes against the Houthis. [...] Although the U.S. is assisting with the Saudi-led air campaign, it is not participating in the ...
A U.S.-Russia War Over Ukraine? Why? Post Date: 2015-04-17 00:24:38 by nativist nationalist

Could a U.S. response to Russias action in Ukraine provoke a confrontation that leads to a U.S.-Russia War? This jolting question is raised by Graham Allison and Dimitri Simes in the cover article of The National Interest. The answer the authors give, in Countdown to War: The Coming U.S. Russia Conflict, is that the odds are shortening on a military collision between the worlds largest nuclear powers. The cockpit of the conflict, should it come, will be Ukraine. What makes the article timely is the report that Canada will be sending 200 soldiers to western Ukraine to join 800 Americans and 75 Brits on a yearlong assignment to train the Ukrainian ...
AMID CHAOS, AL-QAIDA CONSOLIDATES HOLD OF YEMEN PROVINCE Post Date: 2015-04-16 21:38:00 by nativist nationalist

SANAA, Yemen (AP) -- Al-Qaida's branch in Yemen consolidated control over much of the country's largest province on Thursday, capturing a major airport, an oil terminal and the area's main military base, and striking an alliance with local tribal leaders to administer the region. The gains highlight how al-Qaida has exploited the chaos in Yemen, where Shiite rebels are battling forces loyal to exiled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi. A 3-week-old Saudi-led air campaign in support of Hadi has so far failed to halt the rebels' advance. Military officials and residents said al-Qaida fighters clashed briefly with members of one of Yemen's largest brigades outside Mukalla, ...

Italian authorities have arrested 15 people on suspicion of murdering the Christians at sea, police in Palermo, Sicily, said. The original group of 105 people left Libya on Tuesday in a rubber boat. Sometime during the trip north across the Mediterranean Sea, the alleged assailants -- Muslims from the Ivory Coast, Mali and Senegal ...

Vladimir Putin accuses U.S. of acting like imperialist Soviet Union 10:48 a.m. ET Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday warned of the dangers of imperialism while saying his nation had no ambition to "restore the empire" of the post-World War II Soviet Union. Fielding questions during his annual call-in event with Russian citizens, Putin said Moscow's attempt to foist its economic model on neighboring states "ended in nothing good, this wasn't good, and we've got to admit it." And pivoting from there, Putin then dinged the U.S. for not realizing the same danger as it pursued a strikingly similar foreign policy. "By the way, this is what the ...

Egypt to Israel :"Put trust in God and bomb Iran" Donia Al-Watan, 2015-04-14 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continued to raise the red flag over the Iranian nuclear deal this weekend, while getting some unexpected support from a neighbor. "In the last few days, Iran has shown again why it can't be trusted," Netanyahu said in a videotaped statement to the press in English.
Meanwhile, Egyptian TV personality Tawfik Okasha called Netanyahu "our dear friend" and suggested Israel take out the Bushehr Nuclear Reactor."Put your trust in God and bomb it," Okasha said. "We are with you and if you need fuel for the ...

Whoa. The Russian ruble is having a 'miracle' surge By Ivana Kottasova @ivanakottasova The Russians are calling it a miracle. The ruble has been on fire, gaining over 20% against the dollar and 35% against the euro in the last three months. The currency is among the best performing this year, after being the worst performer of 2014. The ruble collapsed last year as the Russian economy started showing serious cracks. Russia was hit hard by the double whammy of falling oil prices and the Western sanctions imposed on Moscow over its role in the crisis in Ukraine. The numbers are telling: In January 2014, $1 would get you 33 Russian rubles. At the low point in December, $1 would ...

A collapse in the price of its key commodity. A currency in freefall and a central bank hiking rates to emergency levels while a corrupt, authoritarian government embarks on foreign adventures at potentially huge expense. For the whole of 2014, the Russian economy was the most toxic in the world, with one calamity coming hard after another. But here is something nobody expected. In the first quarter of this ...
US Bomber Crew Shot Down Over Japan Dissected While ALIVE In Horrific WW2 Experiments Post Date: 2015-04-07 15:42:15 by BobCeleste

A Japanese university has opened a museum acknowledging that its staff dissected downed American airmen while they were still alive during World War Two. The move is a striking step in a society where war crimes are still taboo and rarely discussed, although the incident has been extensively documented in books and by US officials. A gruesome display at the newly-opened museum at Kyushu University explains how eight US POWs were taken to the centres medical school in Fukuoka after their plane was shot down over the skies of Japan in May 1945. There, they were subjected to horrific medical experiments - as doctors dissected one soldiers brain to see if epilepsy could be ...

Ukrainian-born, North Carolina-dwelling pianist Valentina Lisitsa is an impressive talent. Most recently she released albums of Rachmaninov Concertos and works by Liszt on Decca Records. She is known for developing a massive following with the savvy use of social media like YouTube. In 2012 she sold out the Royal Albert Hall in an event that was also live-streamed to 100,000 people. However, it was also on social media that she committed an unpardonable political crime that led the thought police in Canada to cancel an upcoming performance and offer to pay her as if she played if she would just keep her mouth shut about being blacklisted. Thankfully she refused. What ...

Hes delighted, of course. Sometimes, it pays to have the right enemies. So you cant blame Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator, for being pretty happy that a magazine published by ISIS has labeled him an enemy of the radical Islamic terror group that is battling for control in Iraq and Syria. In The Words of the Enemy is a regular feature in Dabiq magazine a sort of Who Wore It Best for the scary fundamentalist set and Santorum is featured in the latest issue, quoted about his concerns that ISIS is growing ever more credible in the Muslim world. Identifying him as a Catholic crusader and American ...
Iran Deal: Will Bob Corker Save the GOP? Post Date: 2015-04-06 21:01:44 by nativist nationalist

Pat, sometimes it seems like our friends want me to go over the cliff with flags flying, President Reagan once told me. Today, it is Bibi Netanyahu and the neocons howling kill the deal and bomb Iran who are shoving the Republican Party toward the cliff. The question, which may decide 2016, may be framed thus: Should a Republican Congress meticulously point out the flaws and risks of this nuclear deal with Iran and, if the Iranians do cheat or attempt a breakout, be rewarded for their skepticism and statesmanship? Or should the GOP sabotage and scuttle the deal and let itself be held politically liable for the diplomatic and strategic ...

Putin's Ukraine gamble has largely paid off for the Kremlin AFP ANNA SMOLCHENKO, AFP APR. 5, 2015, 8:49 AM Moscow (AFP) - A year since the start of the fighting in eastern Ukraine, Vladimir Putin may not have emerged the winner in his showdown with the West but he has not lost either, analysts say. By supporting Ukrainian separatists, they say, he took a huge risk but it largely paid off as it allowed him to punish Kiev's pro-Western authorities for seeking to turn their back on Russia and stand up to the West. Most importantly for the Kremlin, the annexation of Crimea and support for fellow Russian speakers in Ukraine's east have given a huge boost to Putin's popularity ...

The 16 Smartest People on Earth IQ is a problematic measure of intelligence. Many have never been tested, while others have taken the test many times to improve their scores. Still, psychologists consider it the best measurement of intelligence out there. So who has the highest score? The World Genius Directory, created by Dr. Jason Betts, is a fluid list of the world's top mind compiled from certified IQ tests sent in by listees. Betts says his site is the definitive ranking. "Other [IQ] websites had existed, and some still do, but they are based and limited by local constraints, for example, written in Spanish, for Europeans only, only accept their friends' tests, and ...

Passover begins tonight (April 3), which gives me a peg for a meditation on the political proclivities of my fellow Jews. GOP cheerleader Jonah Goldberg has been one of my favorite subjects liberalfascismgoing back to 2001, when he emerged to personify the post- purge, house-broken National Review (although he was later pushed out by Rich Lowry). He is living proof that a little knowledge (but not too much) will take you a long way in the Beltway Right. His book Liberal Fascism was a notable success despite, or perhaps because of, his flippant treatment of the subject and his willingness to clumsily associate the Democrats with fascism and National Socialism. And now Goldberg is applying ...

Norway Nervous Over Sold Naval Base: Now Fears Kremlin at Its DoorstepThe Norwegian authorities are gravely upset over a secret naval base they sold two years ago: what makes them panic over the facility they just recently deemed unnecessary is that it is rented by a fleet of Russian research vessels, which, experts believe is no joking matter.Olavsvern, a former Royal Norwegian Navy auxiliary base which was carved into a mountain just outside the city of Tromso, is now the centerpiece of heated debates. The countrys navy seemed to be in no need of the base, which resembled the lair of a James Bond villain: in addition ...

One of the more reality-free themes to come out of the story of the Islamic States growing strength and purposeful expansion in Libya and North Africa generally has been the frantic claims by European statesmen especially those from Italy that IS intends to use North Africa as a gateway to invade Europe. These hysterical fears have even moved the Italians to offer to lead a NATO intervention into Libya to defeat the Islamists. This is the same Italy, remember, that skedaddled from Iraq after a few of its soldiers were killed there by the Islamist fighters. One can only surmise that a Rome-led NATO invasion of Libya would go just fine so long as the invading ...
Watch Pat Buchanan School Hannity On Iran Post Date: 2015-04-03 17:50:44 by Willie Green

Whatever you think of Pat Buchanan, he was spot on in this segment, smacking down right-wing fear mongering about Iran and nailing the Bush administration for empowering the country with its misbegotten invasion of Iraq. You gotta talk to your enemies, Buchanan told the war-mongering, Netanyahu-loving Sean Hannity. Buchanan pointed out that former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was in power for eight years and did nothing to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, as Fox loves to (wrongly) quote him as threatening. Hannity began to get rather exercised. But Buchanan continued, undeterred. BUCHANAN: Are we going to be frightened by words from some character in ...

There is a lot in the news stating that Israel's prime minister says that the Iranian nuke deal is bad for Isreal and threatens it. I think the real fear for the region is not that Iran will get a nuke but that Iran will come out of the sanctions regime and her economy will boom and this will make Iran stronger even without the nukes. Having the nukes was an easy way for Israel and the Saudis to push for air strikes/war/sanctions on Iran to keep her weak. Now, with sanctions to be lifted we will see Iran emerge as the regional power in the area thanks to George W. Bush toppling Saddam and inisiting on 'democracy' as a fig leaf to justify the invasion which brought the Shia in ...
