Mexico said on Thursday it would decide within about 15 days what sanctions to impose on U.S. meat products if the U.S. Congress does not comply with a World Trade Organization ruling on labeling. On Monday, the WTO ruled that U.S. country-of-origin labeling (COOL) laws discriminated against imported meat from Mexico and Canada. "We have our teams prepared and working, specialists in international law...in case the U.S. Congress doesn't comply," Enrique Martinez, Mexico's agriculture minister, said at a news conference. "I think in some 15 days we will have a clearer idea," Martinez added, of "what the sanctions would be." On Wednesday, U.S ...

After brief introductions by Perry and Taylor, Snowden addressed the dilemmas in whistleblowing and his thoughts on his ...
Marco Rubio's Foreign Policy: Reckless, Reactionary Big-Gov Love Post Date: 2015-05-21 10:57:03 by Deckard

Hey Rubio: If government can't manage health care, how can it manage regime changes in foreign societies? Republican presidential aspirant and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio gave a major foreign-policy speech recently, and the best that can be said is that he did not claim to favor small government and free markets. What he wants in a foreign policy couldnt possibly be reconciled with any desire to limit government power. Rubio is for big government no matter what he might say on the campaign trail. He acknowledged this when he said, correctly, "Foreign policy is domestic policy." Rubio set out a doctrine with three pillars, none of which which should comfort anyone who ...
Islamic State seizes ancient Palmyra city from Syrian forces Post Date: 2015-05-21 03:36:44 by out damned spot

Islamic State insurgents stormed the historic Syrian city of Palmyra on Wednesday, fighting off pro-government forces who withdrew after evacuating most of the civilian population, state television said. The capture of Palmyra is the first time the al Qaeda offshoot has taken control of a city directly from the Syrian army and allied forces, which have already lost ground in the northwest and south to other insurgent groups in recent weeks. The central city, also known as Tadmur, is built alongside the remains of a oasis civilization whose colonnaded streets, temple and theater have stood for 2,000 years. Islamic State has destroyed antiquities and ancient monuments in neighboring Iraq ...

As Middle America rises in rage against fast track and the mammoth Obamatrade deal known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Wall Street Journal has located the source of the malady. Last Mondays lead editorial began: Here we go again. In the 1990s Pat Buchanan launched a civil war within the Republican Party on a platform targeting immigration and trade. Some claimed Pitchfork Pat was the future of the GOP, though in the end he mainly contributed to its presidential defeats. But, woe is us, the GOPs Buchanan wing is making a comeback. Now it is true that, while Nixon and Reagan won 49-state landslides and gave the GOP five victories in ...
What are these strange unexplained noises from the sky? Post Date: 2015-05-19 10:05:53 by Deckard

This could be annoying if it happens too often. Video clips from across the world have captured a sinister-sounding noise coming from the sky. But no one can explain what it is.The footage, from Germany, Canada, the USA, Ukraine and Belarus reveals similar sounding trumpet-like noises. See a video here: The first came from Belarus in 2008, while in the same year ear-defeaning sounds were posted to YouTube by an anonymous user. And in June 2013, Kimberly Wookey. from British Columbia in Canada, recorded several noises coming from the sky. A child apparently frozen to the spot after hearing the noise Since then she has captured several more examples, with the most ...

Shocking revelation finds $5.3tn subsidy estimate for 2015 is greater than the total health spending of all the worlds governments Fossil fuel companies are benefitting from global subsidies of $5.3tn (£3.4tn) a year, equivalent to $10m a minute every day, according to a startling new estimate by the International Monetary Fund. The IMF calls the revelation shocking and says the figure is an extremely robust estimate of the true cost of fossil fuels. The $5.3tn subsidy estimated for 2015 is greater than the total health spending of all the worlds governments. The vast sum is largely due to polluters not paying the costs imposed on ...

Armenian Church Leader Speaks on Suit to Reclaim Seized Property By RICK GLADSTONEMAY 18, 2015 A lawsuit in Turkey filed by the Armenian Church to recover its ancient headquarters, seized a century ago during the Armenian genocide, is the first legal step of a goal to reclaim all Armenian property seized by the Turks, a worldwide leader of the church said Monday. The leader, Aram I, Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia, also said that if the Turkish legal authorities rejected the lawsuit, it would deepen the divide between Turkey and the 10-million-member Armenian diaspora. Aram I spoke in an interview at The New York Times while on a visit to diaspora ...
Trevor Loudon: Only Ted Cruz Can Save America From The Marxists In Government Post Date: 2015-05-18 12:14:13 by A K A Stone

Trevor Loudon, the New Zealand conservative activist who has devoted himself in recent years to exposing President Obama as an enemy within, joined Gun Owners of Americas Larry Pratt on his radio program last month to discuss his upcoming movie, which he hopes will help get Ted Cruz elected president next year, thus saving America and the world. Loudon promised Pratt that his movie will go way further than Dinesh DSouzas anti-Obama polemics in exposing the Marxist Obama. America stands in the balance, and if America goes down, every Western country will fall, including my own, he said. Claiming that the president and dozens ...

Ironically, the old battleground in Kosovo, whereby the Orthodox Christian Jerusalem was taken away from Serbia, is now showing a hidden danger to both Muslim Albanian dominated Kosovo and Republika Srpska in Bosnia. Therefore, terrorist sweeps took place in Albanian ruled Kosovo and the Republika Srpska. In Macedonia the current crisis is hitting the headlines because of the numbers of ...

Nepal Suffers Another Earthquake On Saturday, Four Days After A Major Aftershock (3rd one) Post Date: 2015-05-16 22:24:09 by out damned spot

Four days after Nepal was shaken by its second deadly significant earthquake in less than three weeks, nerves were rattled there by another quake Saturday afternoon. The U.S. Geological Survey indicated the magnitude-5.7 tremor was strong enough to inflict significant damage on poorly constructed buildings. It was felt in northern India. Neither injuries nor deaths have been reported, possibly because so many structures were already toppled by the April 25 magnitude-7.8 earthquake that killed more than 8,000 people and injured more than 19,000. The region was hit Tuesday by a quake that killed over 125 people and injured over 2,500. An aftershock of 5.7-intensity after three days of ...
Our Next Mideast War—Syria Post Date: 2015-05-16 13:11:45 by nativist nationalist

Jeb Bush has spent the week debating with himself over whether he would have started the war his brother launched on Iraq. When he figures it out, hopefully, our would-be president will focus in on the campaign to drag us into yet another Mideast warthis time to bring down Bashar Assads regime in Syria. While few would mourn the passing of the Assad dynasty, there is a problem: If Assad falls, a slaughter of Christians will follow and the battle for control of Damascus will be between the Syrian branch of al-Qaida, the Nusra Front, and the crazed terrorists of the Islamic State. Victory for either would be a disaster for America. Where is the evidence of an unholy alliance ...

The claims were made by South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) to politicians in a closed-door parliamentary briefing. Is a UK Crackup Ahead? Post Date: 2015-05-11 22:03:31 by nativist nationalist

David Cameron is the most successful Tory Party leader since Margaret Thatcher. Yet history may also record that his success led to the crackup of his country, and Great Britains secession from the European Union. How did Camerons Tories capture their majority? First, they compiled a strong record to run on. More critically, they attacked the Labour Party of Ed Miliband as too far left to govern, and warned that a Labour government would be hostage to a secessionist Scottish National Party, without whose votes Miliband could never reach a majority in Parliament. Labour could not shake off the charge, because it was true. The attack on the SNP as a subversive party secretly ...
White House In Crisis Mode As Gulf States Blow Off Obama’s Camp David Summit Post Date: 2015-05-11 21:18:03 by out damned spot

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states hit the Obama White House with a stunning vote of no confidence on Monday, as Saudi King Salman and three other regional leaders announced they would skip President Obamas Camp David summit, scheduled for later this week. The snub began with the Saudis, and spread to Bahrain, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates. These nations say they will still send lower-ranked representatives to Obamas summit meeting. The Saudi snub is particularly pointed because King Salman was supposed to have a one-on-one meeting with President Obama before the summit began. A modicum of face-saving was provided by the Saudis, who cited the beginning of a humanitarian ...

Seymour M. Hersh has published a blockbuster article on events surrounding bin Ladens life and death in Pakistan. You need to know that ISI is Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence. Here are a few of the revelations. 1. Bin Laden hid in the Hindu Kush mountains between 2001-2006. Payoffs by the ISI to informants led to his discovery. After 2006, the ISI seized him and placed him in the compound at Abbottabad where he was murdered by the American team. They supplied him with a doctor, Amir Aziz, and kept tabs on him. Bin Laden was under constant ISI observation. The ISI has a covert base 15 minutes away by helicopter. In addition, a Pakistan army battalion headquarters is about a mile ...

Medals and Memories for Jewish Veterans From Russia By BENJAMIN MUELLERMAY 9, 2015 Leonid Rozenberg sat on his walker, his wrists draped over its aluminum arms and his suit lapels dripping with war medals, as a crush of Russians of all ages jostled to get closer. Some offered red carnations, which he slipped into spaces in the frame of the walker. Others carried cameras, or pointed at his gold-and-silver chest, trying to elicit a story. He indulged each visitor and, then, with a viselike handshake or a kiss on the cheek, sent them off, leaning back into his rolling throne as another tier of people pushed closer. In Brooklyn on Saturday, the 70th anniversary of the Allied victory over ...
Megascale Desalination The world’s largest and cheapest reverse-osmosis desalination plant is up and running in Israel. Post Date: 2015-05-10 19:47:03 by A K A Stone

On a Mediterranean beach 10 miles south of Tel Aviv, Israel, a vast new industrial facility hums around the clock. It is the worlds largest modern seawater desalination plant, providing 20 percent of the water consumed by the countrys households. Built for the Israeli government by Israel Desalination Enterprises, or IDE Technologies, at a cost of around $500 million, it uses a conventional desalination technology called reverse osmosis (RO). Thanks to a series of engineering and materials advances, however, it produces clean water from the sea cheaply and at a scale never before achieved. Worldwide, some 700 million people dont have access to enough clean water. In 10 ...

David Cameron will use the Conservative Partys first majority in the House of Commons for nearly 20 years to deliver on a radical agenda to cut welfare, shrink the size of the state and re-define Britains relationship with Europe. Conservative insiders said Mr Cameron would move to the right to consolidate support among his backbench MPs after five years of compromise with the Liberal Democrats. Among Mr Camerons first legislative priorities will be to enshrine an EU referendum into law, bring in the so-called snoopers charter to give police greater powers to monitor internet communications and give English MPs a veto over legislation only ...
