Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will delay the dismissal of his defense chief, announced over a week ago after the minister called for a halt to the government's flagship justice overhaul, a source close the matter said on Monday. A Kyiv court on Saturday ordered the house arrest of Metropolitan Pavel, a Ukrainian Orthodox priest who is the head monk at the historic Pechersk Lavra Monastery. Saudi Arabia and other OPEC+ oil producers on Sunday announced further cuts in their production amounting to around 1.16 million barrels per day in a surprise move they said was aimed at supporting market stability. The development comes a day before a virtual meeting of an OPEC+ ministerial panel, which includes Saudi Arabia and Russia, and which had been expected to stick to 2 million bpd of cuts already in place until the end of 2023. Ukrainian police in Kyiv are preparing to evict Orthodox priests who are refusing to leave a historic monastery complex known as the Pechersk Lavra or the Monastery of the Caves. The effort is part of a broad crackdown on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) launched by the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The UOC has historic links to Russia but is the largest church in Ukraine, having more parishes than the similarly named Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), which has no affiliation with Moscow. On March 22, Sweden’s parliament voted in support of going ahead with NATO membership plans, an outcome that would hinge on the ultimate decisions of NATO members Hungary and Turkey. Swedish lawmakers voted for NATO membership with 269 in favor, 37 against, and 43 absent. During the seven-hour debate in the parliament, or Riksdag, the Left and the Green parties requested that NATO membership only be accepted if no nuclear weapons were put in Sweden. Thousands of Israelis took to the streets on Sunday in protest after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed his defense minister Yoav Gallant, who had urged the government to halt a highly-contested plan to overhaul the judicial system.
