Saudi Clerics Advocate Adult Breast-Feeding
Post Date: 2010-06-09 19:41:38 by A K A Stone

(June 5) -- Women in Saudi Arabia should give their breast milk to male colleagues and acquaintances in order to avoid breaking strict Islamic law forbidding mixing between the sexes, two powerful Saudi clerics have said. They are at odds, however, over precisely how the milk should be conveyed. A fatwa issued recently about adult breast-feeding to establish "maternal relations" and preclude the possibility of sexual contact has resulted in a week's worth of newspaper headlines in Saudi Arabia. Some have found the debate so bizarre that they're calling for stricter regulations about how and when fatwas should be issued. Sheikh Al Obeikan, an adviser to the royal court ...

By Ed Carson Wed., June 09, 2010 3:25 PM ET Tags: BP - Oil Spill - Markets - Stocks - Bankruptcy BP (BP), the one-time British Petroleum that tried to rebrand itself as “Beyond Petroleum,” is crashing today on talk that energy giant may have to seek bankruptcy protection. BP has plunged 15% — more than 50% below pre-spill levels. In an article today, Fortune quoted Matt Simmons, oil and gas industry insider: They have about a month before they declare Chapter 11. They’re going to run out of cash from lawsuits, cleanup and other expenses. One really smart thing that Obama did was about three weeks ago he forced BP CEO Tony Hayward to ...

Reuters Admits Cropping Photos of Ship Clash, Denies Political Motive By Ed Barnes Published June 08, 2010 | FOXNews.com On the left, the uncropped photo. On the right, Reuters' released photo. (Reuters) The British-based Reuters news agency has been stung for the second time by charges that it edited politically sensitive photos in a way that casts Israel in a bad light. But this time Reuters claims it wasn’t at fault. The news agency reacted to questions raised by an American blogger who showed that Reuters' photo service edited out knives and blood traces from pictures taken aboard the activist ship Mavi Marmara during a clash with Israeli commandos last week. TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran and Baghdad enjoy good bilateral relations and they are resolved to expand their relations, Iraqi Government Spokesman Ali al-Dabbaq reiterated on Tuesday. "Iraq and Iran enjoy abundant commonalities and interests and this has caused officials of the two countries to take continued steps towards consolidation of bilateral relations," Dabbaq told FNA. Noting that Tehran and Baghdad have a plenty of grounds for mutual cooperation, he said the two countries' ambassadors bear a heavy responsibility in activating the potential cooperation grounds. Dabbaq underlined that the two countries also have many intact areas for boosting their mutual trade ...

U.S. Leans Toward Selling Iraq F-16s

BAGHDAD, June 8 (UPI) -- As the U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq moves toward its final phase and Iran remains defiant over its nuclear program, U.S. officials say the Pentagon, after many months of hesitation, is expected to sell Baghdad late-model F-16 strike aircraft. Such firepower would transform postwar Iraq's emerging armed forces, which are having to take over responsibility for security in violence-battered Iraq as the Americans pull out. It would also cause some concern in Iraq's neighbors, particularly Kuwait and Saudi Arabia whose memories of the 1990-91 Persian Gulf conflict are still bitterly sharp, and in Iran, which seeks to dominate its former enemy. U. S. Army ...

June 8, 1967: Israel Attacks USS Liberty

Forty-three years ago today, a U.S. Navy ship was patrolling international waters just north of the Sinai Peninsula. Tensions in the region had been brewing for decades over border conflicts; just days earlier Israel had launched a preemptive strike on Egypt, which they believed was teaming up with Syria and Jordan to plan an attack of its own. The USS Liberty was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Caught in the midst of the conflict—dubbed the Six Day War—the technical research ship was just miles away from Egypt's Gaza Strip when it was bombed with rockets and napalm from Israeli aircraft. Ensuing attempts to radio for assistance were intercepted by the Israelis; yet ...

NATO says three more soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan, just one day after 10 service members died in a string of attacks across the country. The alliance says a bomb killed two of its soldiers Tuesday in southern Afghanistan, but gave no other details. Elsewhere in the region, the British defense ministry said a British soldier was killed in a gunbattle with insurgents in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand province. In Monday's violence, seven Americans, one French and two Australian soldiers were killed in separate attacks in the south and east of the country. It was the deadliest day so far this year for international forces in Afghanistan. Taliban militants have increased ...

(AFP) – 15 minutes ago WASHINGTON — The United States Tuesday backed calls for an international participation in Israel's probe into its deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla saying it was "essential" to ensure credibility. "We understand that the international participation in investigating these matters will be important to the credibility everybody wants to see," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said. "We recognize that international participation... would be an essential element to putting this tragedy behind us and then hopefully creating some additional trust." ISTANBUL—Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Tuesday his country would raise the issue of an investigation into the Israeli boarding of an aid ship off Gaza at the United Nations, calling the Israeli action "a crude violation of international law." Speaking at security summit of Eurasian leaders in Istanbul, Mr. Putin also said that U.N. Security Council sanctions against Iran over its nuclear-fuel program were "practically agreed upon." Turkey was seeking to have leaders at the summit condemn Israel over the raid in a joint statement Tuesday, but with Israel attending in the form of its ambassador to Ankara and wielding a veto, that appeared unlikely. ...

ISTANBUL — Leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran convened at a security summit meeting in Istanbul on Tuesday in a display of regional power that appeared to be calculated to test the United States just days before a scheduled American-backed debate in the United Nations Security Council on imposing tighter sanctions over Iran’s nuclear program. In remarks at the gathering of regional leaders, the third of its kind dedicated to increasing cooperation and security in Asia, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran said a nuclear agreement brokered by Turkey and Brazil last month was a one-time opportunity and other countries had called to express their support for it. “We’ve ...

On a crisp, sunny morning last week, a man strolled into a Brussels courtroom, pulled out a gun, and shot both the judge and a court clerk in the head with a 7.65 mm pistol before fleeing. The double killing stunned the country, which prides itself on its cozy, tranquil way of life. Bewildered judges and lawyers described the incident as "disgusting", "unacceptable" and "an assassination of justice itself." Government ministers pledged to step up security around the law courts, while the Belgian media echoed the outrage. "An attack on a judge is an attack on all of us," said the daily newspaper, De Morgan. The local Brussels police arrested the ...

Children as young as 8 in poor Mexican border cities yearn to grow up to be drug lords and hitmen as the adrenalin and wealth linked to the trafficking world seeps deep into their lives. Parents in the violent cities of Ciudad Juarez and Tijuana on the U.S. border say primary school kids are captivated by the drug gangs they see on the street and TV news brandishing guns, driving flashy black SUVs and outsmarting soldiers. Rather than playing cops and robbers and admiring firemen or train drivers, children are inventing kidnapping games and forming playground gangs named after brutal drug cartels as they idolize the power of kingpins whose turf wars have killed some 23,000 people since ...

KABUL, Afghanistan - Ten NATO soldiers, including seven Americans, were killed in a wave of violence in Afghanistan on Monday — the deadliest day this year for the international forces. The bloodshed came as Taliban insurgents ramp up bombings and attacks on NATO forces ahead of a major operation in the southern Taliban stronghold of Kandahar that Washington hopes will turn the tide of the war. In the worst single incident Monday, five American service members were killed in a roadside bomb blast in eastern Afghanistan, the U.S. command said. Two more U.S. soldiers were killed in separate attacks Monday — one a bombing in the south and the other by small arms fire in the south. ...

However, ISRAEL is the HOLY LAND of Jews AND Christians, and it MUST be preserved for the Jews to live/rule there so that all other faiths can visit there in peace. When the Muslims held OUR Holy Land in the past, they prevented Jews AND Christians from visiting our most sacred places ther THAT cannot stand, and can never ever be allowed to happen again...and THAT alone is why the US must always support Israel. Egypt: Gaza Blockade A Failure, Border Stays Open

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) -- An Egyptian security official declared the blockade of Gaza a failure Monday and said his country will keep its border with the Palestinian territory open indefinitely. Keeping that crossing point open long term would ease the blockade imposed by Israel three years ago to isolate and punish Gaza's Hamas rulers. It also restores a link to the outside the world for some of Gaza's 1.5 million Palestinians. Egypt opened its border with Gaza soon after Israel's deadly raid on an international flotilla of activists trying to break the blockade a week ago. Israel has not publicly protested the Egyptian move, but officials declined to comment Monday. In ...

TEHRAN — The Iranian Red Crescent has decided to send two aid ships to Gaza this week in the latest bid to break the blockade imposed on the Palestinian territory by Iran's regional archfoe Israel. Red Crescent director for international affairs Abdolrauf Adibzadeh told the state IRNA news agency late on Sunday that the decision to send the ships was taken after a meeting with the foreign ministry. "One ship will carry donations made by the people and the other will carry relief workers. The ships will be sent to Gaza by end of this week," Adibzadeh said. He said the Red Crescent has called for Iranian volunteers to act as relief workers and accompany the vessels. ...

Joint Chiefs Chair Says Al Qaeda in Iraq Has Been 'Devastated' Published June 07, 2010 ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. — A string of setbacks for Al Qaeda's affiliate in Iraq has left the insurgent group "devastated" and struggling to cope with a double whammy of a leadership vacuum and a money squeeze, the top U.S. military officer said Sunday. Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he found it particularly encouraging that gains against Al Qaeda have been made in operations carried out jointly by U.S. and Iraqi military forces. That makes it more likely, Mullen said, that after U.S. troops leave in 2011 the Iraqi government will be able to ...

Israel may accept its isolation from the world community but the US has found its ally’s position in maintaining a blockade of Gaza “untenable” and has agreed that an “impartial inquiry” into the deadly raid is needed, says James Zogby.  As expected, Israel matched its use of overwhelming force against the passengers on the Mavi Marmara with an equally vigorous attempt to shape both how the story played out in the US media and the official response from the US government. To that end, the Israeli government prepared talking points, enlisted the efforts of their lobby, and mobilised a virtual army of activists to monitor, respond to and pressure the press as ...
