Authorities Arrest Suspected Arsonist for Wildfire Blamed on Climate Change

A 2022 wildfire in California that many were quick to blame on so-called climate change has been ruled an act of arson, and a suspect has been arrested. The Oak Fire, which destroyed over 120 homes in Mariposa County, California, in 2022, is being blamed on Edward Fredrick Wackerman, a former firefighter — and a Democratic donor. Wackerman faces several felony counts, including aggravated arson, arson that causes great bodily injury, and arson causing damage or destruction of inhabited structures. Nigeria's new government may reform the country's energy sector to limit the state's role in the production and sale of oil and gas. According to Reuters, advisers to newly-elected Nigerian President Bola Tinubu recommended that the government reduce its stake in the state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to a minority position in order to raise $17 billion in revenue. Study Blames Regulation for Lower Rates of Innovation

Economists have long linked higher levels of regulation with less innovation, and a soon-to-be-published study of French firms provides additional evidence to support what is now conventional wisdom. The study, a 2021 working paper that will soon be published in the American Economic Review, was conducted by economists Philippe Aghion and John Van Reenen of the London School of Economics and Antonin Bergeaud of HEC Paris. They took a human embryonic stem cell line and used it to make what looks like an early human embryo.
