The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Colorado graphic designer on Friday in what Alliance Defending Freedom is calling a landmark victory for free speech. But critics were quick to claim that the ruling lacked legitimacy and that ADF senior counsel Erin Hawley, who litigated 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, is somehow at fault. Hawley suggested to The Daily Signal in a Wednesday phone interview that leftist activists are grasping at straws as they grapple with the courts ruling. A number of recent high-profile cases have left liberal activists furious and calling for an expansion of the number of seats on the court. Click for Full Text!

Contrary to popular myth, the men who signed the Declaration of Independence were not great Americans. Instead, they were great Englishmen. In fact, they were as much English citizens as Americans today are American citizens. Its easy to forget that the revolutionaries in 1776 were people who took up arms against their own government. So how is it that these men are considered patriots? Well, the truth is that their government didnt consider them patriots at all. Their government considered them to be bad guys traitors, all of whom deserved to be hanged for treason. Click for Full Text!

Members of the "squad," among the most liberal members of Congress, were not in a celebratory mood on the Fourth of July, claiming the Declaration of Independence was written by "enslavers," Americans are standing on "stolen land," and reparations should be given to descendants of Black slaves. Tweets by U.S. Reps. Cori Bush, D-Mo., and Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., on Tuesday showed they had more to complain about than celebrate the 247th birthday of the nation's founding. Click for Full Text!
Recapturing the Spirit of Independence Post Date: 2023-07-05 01:04:56 by Charles_Byrd

This week Americans will gather around the grill, attend parades and watch fireworks displays, all in the celebration of the signing of our Declaration of Independence. At the same time, we will have thousands of bureaucrats, troops and agents stationed in countries across the globe being paid by American tax dollars. On the anniversary of our declaring our own independence from the British, it is certainly appropriate that we reflect on the nature and spirit of independent nationhood. While our founding fathers were individual men in a historically unique situation, they posited that the principles upon which they rested our national independence were timeless. One of the signs of advancing age in the American college professor is a tendency for him to write less and publish more. This seeming paradox is easily explained by the phenomenon of Collected Works, that is, by what on television would be described as reruns. As in television, no great public outcry is needed to bring forth the reruns; a question from his wife, a polite suggestion from a colleague, and the cut-and-paste operation is under way.I have put together here what I believe to be the best of the rather meager output of my professional career up to this point. For reasons (mostly financial) that always seemed adequate at the moment, I have been more of a speechmaker than a writer. ...

The California Reparations Task Force's final report has recommended the termination of all interest on unpaid child support payments if the debtor is Black, The Daily Mail reported on Tuesday. The report criticized "discriminatory laws" for having "torn African American families apart," and for resulting in a larger portion of Black fathers owing child support. In addition, the 10% interest applied to unpaid child support debt further hinders the ability of Black fathers to further their own educations while paying off their debts. Click for Full Text!

From colorful hot dog stands and front-porch grilling to car dealerships and fireworks once again the people celebrate July 4th. The media will join the festivities and will air documentaries about the founding of the country, its struggles during the revolutionary war, the adoption of the Constitution and the various leaders that inspired a country to fight for its freedom. Journalists and pundits shall hold hands and sing their praises to the gods state. The mainstream, hailing from its intellectually void ivory tower will no doubt offer hosannas to our overlords. Today we celebrate the greatest day in our national history. Sound ridiculous? Not to John Adams, who in 1776 wrote to his wife, Abigail: "The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. . . . It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfire and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more." At least he got the pomp and parade part right. Click for Full Text!

The high-profile announcement by Siemens Energy that a large portion of its wind turbines could be suffering from faulty components sent its stock tumbling last week, but many industry experts are concerned that the problems it is facing may not be unique, CNBC reported Monday.
