Federal agencies made about $247 billion in payment errors in fiscal year 2022, but some agencies are reducing improper payments. Improper payments either should not have been made or were made in the wrong amount, according to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Improper payments have been a longstanding problem for federal agencies. Since 2003, cumulative executive agency improper payment estimates have totaled almost $2.4 trillion, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Click for Full Text!

Law Enforcement analyst Mark Morgan told Newsmax Friday that it is "ridiculous" that the highly trained Secret Service and FBI may be unable to find out who left cocaine in a "highly controlled access" area of the White House during the holiday weekend. "The FBI and the United States Secret Service are two of the best organizations in what they do. They also oversee some long-term sophisticated, complex, investigations that cover multiple continents. To think that they cannot quickly discover whose cocaine this was is just ridiculous to me," Morgan said during "American Agenda" Friday. "This is not heavily trafficked like Walmart the day after ...

Just What Is the Military’s Image and Reputation?
Post Date: 2023-07-08 00:48:37 by Charles_Byrd

Another Military Appreciation Day has come and gone. Everything about the Fourth of July has been tainted by military idolatry—including worship services on the Sunday before the holiday. Patriotism is now equated with admiration for the military. And the highest form of patriotism is to kill or be killed “in defense of our freedoms.” The image and reputation of the military is at an all-time high. American Enterprise Institute (AEI) senior fellow Michael Rubin is concerned about the image of the military. In his recent article “Greed, Not Just Politics, Is Corrupting the Image of the Military,” he criticizes former U.S. generals for endorsing “usually in ...

The Associated Press reported Thursday that the Biden administration has decided to arm Ukraine with cluster bombs and will announce the munitions as part of a new $800 million arms package. The news comes after Human Rights Watch (HRW) issued a report that said Ukraine has killed its own citizens using the munitions. US officials told AP that they expect the arms package to be announced Friday. The White House used to be opposed to arming Ukraine with cluster munitions, as they are indiscriminate weapons that cause harm to civilians, but the concerns have waned. Click for Full Text!

Affirmative Action Ruling Starts Affecting Scholarships

The Supreme Court's decision on affirmative action in college admissions has begun affecting scholarships, with universities in at least two states saying they will no longer consider race when awarding the funding. In the wake of the court's ruling that race-based admissions policies are unconstitutional, the University of Kentucky and the University of Missouri system announced that they would drop race as a factor in scholarship programs. Though the court did not address scholarships, other schools are expected to follow, as many face pressure to change. Click for Full Text!

Ex-Border Chief: Is Admin Blocking Probe Into WH Cocaine?

Mark Morgan, a former acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the Trump administration, suggested Thursday the Biden administration might be blocking the Secret Service's investigation into cocaine being found at the White House. "An investigation like this is pretty straightforward. Everybody that enters the White House is manifested," Morgan told the Daily Mail. "They know who comes in, they know when they came in, they're checked, and there are video cameras everywhere." Click for Full Text!

A brother who traveled more than 1,000 miles to confront his sister's killer. An uncle of an orphaned 4-year-old whose parents died while shielding the boy from the spray of bullets. A wife whose husband was gunned down at her side while their 9-year-old granddaughter looked on. Nearly four years after a white gunman killed 23 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, in a racist attack that targeted Hispanic shoppers, relatives of the victims are packing a courtroom near the U.S.-Mexico border this week to see Patrick Crusius punished for one of the nation's worst mass shootings. After a meeting of defense ministers last month, NATO leaders will convene again next week in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius. There they're expected to approve a significant update to the alliance's military posture on its eastern flank, where several members––Finland, Estonia, and Latvia––share a border with Russia, and several more––Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania––border Ukraine. Right now, NATO has about "40,000 troops on standby from Estonia in the north down to Romania on the Black Sea," reports the Associated Press. With the new plan, the alliance "aims to have up to 300,000 troops ready to move to its eastern ...

On Monday, a civil rights group filed a complaint to the Department of Education challenging legacy preferences in college admissions, arguing that the policy discriminates against black, Hispanic, and Asian-American students by privileging the children of alumni and donors, who are mostly white. In the wake of last week's Supreme Court decision striking down race-based affirmative action in college admissions, the group argues that legacy admissions policies similarly violate civil rights laws banning race-based discrimination. However, it's unclear whether the group's challenge can pass legal muster. Click for Full Text!

China's latest move could send electronic prices skyrocketing for Americans

China’s announcement that it will implement export controls on two specific minerals could have drastic and far reaching consequences for American consumers as geopolitical tension between Washington and Beijing mounts. Chinese officials announced export limits on germanium and gallium Monday after U.S. officials opted in October 2022 to impose restrictions on the export of advanced computer chips to China. The Chinese export limits could spike prices for consumers in the U.S. as the two minerals are essential for manufacturing high-speed computer chips, military equipment, solar panels, fiber optic cables and other key technologies, according to CNBC. Former Secret Service agent Melanie Burkholder and former FBI agent Jonathan Gilliam told Newsmax on Thursday that, at best, the incident where cocaine was found at the White House makes the Secret Service look incompetent and, at worst, looks like "a drug deal gone bad." "I believe this administration is sadly somewhat desensitized to the idea that there can be cocaine in America's Home and that it's not a big deal," Burkholder said during an appearance on Newsmax's "American Agenda." OPEC, the world’s largest oil cartel, is looking for new members, the group’s secretary general told reporters Wednesday, according to CNBC. Secretary General Haitham al-Ghais told reporters at a Vienna conference that he is actively working to grow OPEC — currently comprised of 13 members based primarily in the Middle East, Africa and South America — noting that he had recently visited several oil-producing countries including Malaysia, Brunei, Azerbaijan and Mexico, although he stressed that he was not suggesting those countries in particular had been invited to join OPEC, according to CNBC. The cartel has been working alongside Russia and other nonmember nations in ...

Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett said Wednesday that the “incriminating evidence” that the Biden administration was colluding with social media companies to censor viewpoints was “compelling.” United States District Judge Terry A. Doughty of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana issued an injunction Tuesday prohibiting Biden administration officials with multiple agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Health and Human Services, from contacting social media companies to push for “the removal, deletion, suppression, or reduction of content containing protected free speech.” “This injunction ...

If you still harbor any doubt that the climate cult wishes to control each and every aspect of your life, consider an article from Amy Brady, published by Scientific American on July 1. The article makes the case for “sustainable” cocktails using far less ice, because frozen H2O takes energy to make and is otherwise a “waste” of water. According to Brady, the bar business has lagged behind other hospitality industries when it comes to addressing global warming, which has been rebranded into the catch-all phrase “climate change.” Click for Full Text!

A May memo from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) general counsel that argued most non-compete agreements violate federal law could make it easier for professional union activists to infiltrate American companies, experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation. General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo, appointed by President Joe Biden in 2021 and the top NLRB official in charge of investigating and prosecuting unfair labor practice cases, sent a memo on May 30 to regional directors informing them that non-compete agreements, which often prevent employees from seeking work in competition against their employer, are in most cases a violation of Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act, ...

"The Hunger Games" (2008) was the first of a series of science fiction novels written by Suzanne Collins that depicted a future dystopian society set in a North American country called Panem. These novels were made into several films beginning in 2012. Panem consisted of 12 districts in varying states of poverty ruled by the Capitol, which was located west of the Rocky Mountains. The Capitol's residents, the ruling elite of Panem, remained very wealthy and technologically advanced by exploiting the people and natural resources of the surrounding districts. The legality of scholarships offered exclusively to minority students was not addressed by the Supreme Court in its recent ruling. Despite the uncertainty regarding the status of these scholarships, the University of Missouri system and the University of Kentucky announced plans to do away with race-based awarding of financial aid.
