How the Bipartisan War Party Fostered Fiscal Ruin

When big spending Barrack Obama left the White House the national security budget properly measured totaled a staggering $822 billion. That included $600 billion for defense, $46 billion for security assistance and international operations and $177 billion for veterans compensation and services, which reflects the deferred cost of prior wars. So much for the "peace candidate" of 2008 and the antiwar democratic party of the Vietnam era and its aftermath. To the contrary, that $822 billion national security budget reflected the cost of global hegemony and the Forever Wars to which it gave rise – notwithstanding that the only real threat to homeland security in the postwar ...

Dem Va. Legislators: Parental Rights, Protecting Kids From Porn Are “Stupid,” “Crap”

Two Democratic members of the Virginia state Legislature were recently caught on a hot mic expressing their disdain not only for Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin, but also for parents who insist on their rights to guide and direct the upbringing of their children. In the recordings, the Democratic lawmakers can be heard describing parental rights as “garbage,” “crap,” and “stupid.” In two separate tweets, the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) posted the audio recordings of state Senator Monty Mason and state Delegate Shelly Simonds during a political social function at Christopher Newport University. In the first of the two recordings, Mason and ...

Belarus Is Not Our Business

According to rumors confirmed by a member of the Russian government, Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Belarus, is ill. Reports of the illness's severity vary. While he was recently in Moscow for the May 9 Victory Day celebrations, he was noticeably less mobile than the other leaders gathered and was seen carrying some sort of electronic device. Since then, his only public appearance has been in a still photo and a brief video message on Telegram in which he appeared bandaged with a hoarse voice. While it is possible that he will recover, it is also possible that the nearly 70-year-old dictator will not. Nevertheless, the West should start to prepare for the eventuality of his ...

A Stanford professor who has researched unidentified aerial phenomena for the US government says he believes extraterrestrial intelligence has not only visited earth but “it’s been here a long time and it’s still here”. Dr Garry Nolan also claimed that whistleblowers who have worked on “reverse-engineering downed craft” had recently given classified testimony to Congress, creating a “hornet’s nest in Washington”. Here's how long EVs have to be driven before they save emissions versus gas cars
Post Date: 2023-05-22 19:08:50 by Charles_Byrd

Electric vehicles must spend a while on the road before they reduce carbon emissions relative to gas-powered cars, an environmental consideration looming over President Joe Biden's push to electrify the vehicle fleet. That’s because producing an electric vehicle — and manufacturing the battery, in particular — yields a significantly larger carbon footprint compared to producing a traditional, internal combustion engine vehicle. Facebook parent company Meta was hit with a record $1.3 billion (1.2 billion euros) fine on Monday by the European Union, which demanded the social media giant stop transferring user data to the United States. The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) found Meta made a “very serious” infringement concerning transfers “that are systematic, repetitive and continuous,” EDPB Chairwoman Andrea Jelinek said in a statement announcing the fine. According to a report from Reuters, the Pentagon overestimated the value of military equipment it sent to Ukraine by $3 billion, meaning the US could ship even more weapons to the country. Two unnamed Pentagon officials said the error was assigning a higher value to weapons the US has shipped to Ukraine from US military stockpiles. “We’ve discovered inconsistencies in how we value the equipment that we’ve given,” one official told Reuters. Donald Trump's lawyers are sending a troubling signal to the former president, said former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner. Trump, who is again seeking the presidency in the 2024 election, has faced a number of legal woes in recent months. He is facing several investigations related to his actions surrounding the 2020 presidential election, a federal probe into classified documents found at his Mar-a- Lago residence and was recently indicted in a Manhattan case surrounding an alleged 2016 hush money payment. The US on Friday announced new sanctions on Russia that were imposed in coordination with the Group of Seven, but they fall far short of what the Biden administration was hoping to achieve. According to the Treasury Department, over 300 sanctions were implemented on individuals, entities, vessels, and aircraft. The measures are meant to combat the circumvention and evasion of Western sanctions on Russia. Click for Full Text!

Is NATO Crowding the Russian Bear Into a Nuclear Corner?

Western officials who salivate over the prospect of inflicting a decisive, humiliating defeat on Russia in its war with Ukraine remain oblivious to the dangers entailed in that scenario. As I pointed out early in the conflict, Russian leaders consider Ukraine to be the most vital of vital national security interests and they are likely to adopt whatever measures are necessary to prevent such a defeat. Not even the option of using tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine is off the table. So far, the danger of such a potentially catastrophic escalation has remained modest. Deficiencies in Moscow’s lumbering military, combined with recklessly expansive NATO military assistance to Kyiv, have ...

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) introduced a piece of legislation last week that would formally accuse Russia of violating New START and call on the US to withdraw from the treaty. New START is the last nuclear arms control treaty remaining between the US and Russia and places limits on the deployment of nuclear warheads and launchers. Russia suspended its participation in the treaty earlier this year but has said it will continue to abide by its limits. Click for Full Text!

How Many Dominoes Must Topple Before One Falls on Us?
Post Date: 2023-05-21 01:26:41 by Charles_Byrd

Dominoes falling are abstractions until one falls on you. Lines of dominoes toppling are an apt analogy to highly centralized systems that are tightly bound, that is, all the transactions that flow through the centralized hubs are interconnected, so when one domino falls, it topples chains of dominoes that then topple other chains. Two concepts help illuminate this systemic vulnerability to cascading disruptions: dependency chains and path dependency. Dependency chains are set up when each critical component is dependent on a long line of other components working perfectly. One example is our dependence on our vehicle. If one component in our vehicle fails and it breaks down, our life ...

Looking at the present, with each passing day, I see a very probable future: a new despotism creeping slowly across America. Faceless oligarchs sit at command posts of a corporate-government complex that has been slowly evolving over many decades. In efforts to enlarge their own powers and privileges, they are/were willing to have others suffer the intended or unintended consequences of their institutional or personal greed. For Americans, these consequences include chronic inflation, recurring recession, huge unemployment, the poisoning of air, water, soil, and bodies, and, more important, the subversion of our constitution. More broadly, consequences include widespread intervention in ...

I have yet to see a single Rivian in my area – which isn’t surprising given Rivian has only delivered 20,332 of its electric truck/SUV appliances with the Edsel-esque face so far. And that ought not to be surprising, either, given that the least expensive of these battery- powered appliances stickers for $73,000 to start (no extra charge for the serial glitches being reported by the handful of people who’ve bought one so far). Rivian is not likely to ever sell more than a small handful of these devices – because there’s only a small handful of people who have the means to buy a $73,000 vehicle, battery-powered or not. US Debt Default: A Positive Outcome

In fiscal year 2022 the feds spent $6.27 trillion on income of $4.9 trillion leaving a deficit of $1.37 trillion – a hole that represents 28% of revenue. What has Biden done to mitigate spending and bring it in line with receipts? NOTHING. And that’s the deadlock. Where did it go? During 2021 fiscal year during the height of the Pandemic, the government spent $6.8 trillion which included $1.1 trillion pandemic costs, paycheck protection CoVid = $290 billion, $733 billion in CoVid recovery payments and credits, and Unemployment due to CoVid of $392 billion. All of these disappeared in the 2022 budget. But the impact left Taxpayers holding 100% of federal debt compared to an ...

Every uncompromised world politician and citizen of the world, who against great odds, have kept themselves informed and abreast of the complicated historical geo-politics that exists in Ukraine, already know what can only be the ultimate outcome of the war in Ukraine. Especially if they’ve kept themselves informed and abreast over the past nine years since the American Government’s Neo-Con-led Coup of 2014, as well as, the failed attempts ever since by the world’s powers, with the Minsk II Accords Normandy Format and the Steinmeir Formula, to stop the slaughter of ethnic and Russian-speaking Russians in the Donbas by Nazi-led Ukrainians and other fascists in the Western ...
