Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters shook up his senior command staff over the last month, asking for the resignations or demotions of three jail officials after The Tributary’s reporting uncovered unsafe medical conditions in the Duval jail, according to a source familiar with the matter. The Tributary’s reporting did not link any of the problems directly to jail staff but to the city’s contracts with Armor Correctional Health Services to run the jail health care. A report published Wednesday by a pair of advocacy groups details rampant human rights abuses against migrants and some American citizens allegedly perpetrated by Department of Homeland Security personnel at the U.S.- Mexico border in recent years under both the Trump and Biden administrations. An indictment was unsealed today charging the Sheriff of Culpeper County, Virginia, and three other Virginia men with a conspiracy to exchange bribes for law enforcement badges and credentials, federal programs bribery, and honest services fraud. According to the indictment, from at least April 2019, Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Howard Jenkins, 51, accepted cash bribes and bribes in the form of campaign contributions totaling at least $72,500 from Rick Tariq Rahim, 55, of Great Falls, Virginia, Fredric Gumbinner, 64, of Fairfax, Virginia, James Metcalf, 60, of Manassas, Virginia, and at least five others, including two FBI undercover agents. Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund has reported a $15.6 billion loss in 2022 after the value of its investments in SoftBank Vision Fund plumeted while other tech ventures suffered a market downturn.
