Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa, California, on Aug. 24 reversed a recent policy that would require masks in its facility after it reinstated the mandate days before. A Hollywood studio also said it would do away with its mandate. Officials for the hospital system told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that the mask policy applies only to staff, not patients. It said that it is strongly encouraging masks for patients, members, and visitors in the hospital and medical offices in the Santa Rosa Service Area in response to this latest increase in COVID-19 cases. The Origins Of The Neocons And Their Lunatic World View | A History With Professor Michael Brenner Post Date: 2023-08-28 03:44:54 by Charles_Byrd

Neocons are about the most dangerous species in international relations today. They are the kind of people who would rather see a million dead than chose a cooperative framework to resolve a (perceived) problem. Let's remember the memorable words of Ultra-Neocon Madeleine Albright: When asked in 1992 at an interview if half a million dead Iraqi Children which the US sanctions on the country had caused was worth it, Albright replied: I think that is a very hard choice, but the price, we think, the price is worth it. More than 100 chaplains urge Texans not to hire school chaplains Post Date: 2023-08-28 01:52:44 by Charles_Byrd

More than 100 chaplains signed a letter urging local Texas school boards to vote against putting chaplains in public schools, calling efforts to enlist religious counselors in public classrooms harmful to students and families. The letter comes just days before a bill allowing public schools to hire school chaplains becomes law in Texas, the first state in the country to pass such a measure. The legislation, which had been pushed by activists associated with Christian nationalism, gives the states nearly 1,200 school boards until March 1 of next year to vote on whether to employ chaplains. Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. has insisted that sex offender Jeffrey Epstein did not receive special treatment from his administration, but former V.I. Attorney General Denise George testified during a recent deposition that Bryan pressured her to reinstate a waiver of certain travel reporting requirements that had been revoked by former V.I. Attorney General Carol Thomas-Jacobs. He just brought it to my attention that this is what Jeffrey Epstein wants, and and I can expect a call from his attorney, George said, according to a partial transcript of her July 17 deposition. Marine traffic jam: More than 200 ships waiting to cross the Panama Canal Post Date: 2023-08-26 20:55:17 by Charles_Byrd

After facing the drought of the century, the Panama Canal has limited daily transfers in order to ensure safe operation. Alas, this limitation has led to over 200 ships stuck on the sides of the Canal, waiting to cross the crucial waterway. Specifically, in response to the unpredictable weather patterns and the need to ensure reliable and sustainable service, the Panama Canal allows an average of 32 vessels per day to transit through it during this period. As the Canal is a very important global waterway that numerous ships carrying millions worth of cargo cross every year, its jam except for inconvenient, is also a direct threat to the global supply chain. The Threat Hunter Biden's Lawyers Used to Foster That Infamous Plea Deal Post Date: 2023-08-26 20:50:31 by Charles_Byrd

Hunter Bidens attorneys lobbed a serious threat to get negotiations going on a plea deal when the legal scrutiny of the presidents son was becoming more intense. A lengthy article in Politico by Betsy Woodruff details the behind-the-scenes maneuvers that Hunters lawyers and the Justice Department made in crafting the infamous plea deal, where the younger Biden would have essentially evaded jail time for tax and gun charges that were blessedly shot down by a judge who hadnt lost the plot. The gun charge stemmed from when the crack-cocaine-addicted Hunter bought a handgun in 2018. It was disposed of by his then-girlfriend, Hallie Biden. Click for Full Text!
How to Lose Sight of the Constitution Post Date: 2023-08-25 21:40:01 by Charles_Byrd

The Harvard law professor Cass Sunstein is a prolific author with very wide-ranging interests. He has written (and in some cases co-authored) books on behavioral economics; on lies, rumors, and conspiracy theories; on republican theory and political conflict; on feminism; on free speech and dissent; on animal rights; even on Star Warsand Im leaving some out. In many of the fields in which Sunstein has written, I would hardly be qualified to judge his work. (Arent the Ewoks just really small Wookiees?) But his latest effort, How to Interpret the Constitution, is one that I can confidently say is very disappointing. This brief book has three primary characteristics: ...

Hammering K-12 school children nonstop about the dangers of climate change in every class, even math, art and gym, is child abuse. Barely one-third of fourth graders can read or do math at grade level, according to the latest national scores, but climate activists are demanding kids hear about global warming in every class. New Jersey mandates it, and now Connecticut is following suit as the school year opens. In New York City, Mayor Eric Adams is requiring every public school participate in Climate Action Day. The historic church used to partake in a set of daily services called the Daily Office. This kept people connected to God and in community with His Word throughout their working lives. While most churches do not observe these Daily Offices today, we still retain their settings, and they are certainly beneficial to incorporate into the life of the church, devotions with family, or other settings. Today, we look at the order of Vespers and some appropriate hymns to accompany it. The following has been adapted from Lutheran Service Book: Companion to the Services and Lutheran Service Book: Companion to the Hymns. Click for Full Text!

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell raised the possibility of more interest rate hikes in prepared remarks Friday as inflation remains above the Feds target rate. Powell hinted that the Fed will raise interest rates in the future if factors like high inflation, a hot labor market and sustained economic growth persist, according to a speech given by Powell at the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium. Interest rates have been raised 11 times since March 2022 in an effort to fight inflation, bringing the federal funds rate within a range of 5.25% and 5.50%, the highest rate since January 2001. Michael and Catherine Burke have filed a lawsuit against officials in the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF) and other state agencies after their application to become foster parents was denied because of their Catholic faith. According to a social worker's report, the two were asked how they would feel if a child in their care was LGBT. The two responded that they would still love the child, wouldn't kick the child out, and wouldn't subject the child to conversion therapy. But both opposed sex change treatments for those under 18 and expressed a reluctance to use pronouns that don't reflect someone's biological sex, and Catherine said it would be ...

Self-described libertarian Javier Milei surprised the world in Argentina's presidential open primary election last week by finishing first with 30 percent of the vote ahead of candidates for the country's dominant left- and right-wing parties. Milei, the figurehead for La Libertad Avanza party is an Austrian economist and has called himself an anarchocapitalist and made a name for his fiery media appearances excoriating Argentina's "political caste" of "parasites." Former Maverick City Music singer and celebrated gospel artist Dante Bowe has commented publicly for the first time on the existence of an inappropriate photo he took of himself that he accidentally leaked, claiming it wasnt sexual or that bad despite him being fully nude. Last year, Bowe was ejected from MCM for unspecified wrongdoing. Bowe issued a brief non-apology apology that he later deleted. Since then, hes continued to spiral into worldliness and obscenity, from recently wearing a disgusting shirt during a Vogue photoshoot that is unprecedented in terms of behavior that weve seen before from a self-declared Christian worship ...

South Carolina Supreme Court Upholds New Heartbeat Law Post Date: 2023-08-25 02:13:26 by Charles_Byrd

In a splintered majority, the South Carolina supreme court in January 2023 ruled by a 3-to-2 vote (in Planned Parenthood v. South Carolina, aka Planned Parenthood I) that the heartbeat law that the state enacted in 2021 violated the state constitutional right to privacy. As I explained, Justice John Cannon Fews separate opinion in support of that ruling was the most interesting, and in some respects the most puzzling, of the three opinions issued by the members of the majority, and it even strongly suggested that he would uphold a ban on abortion from conception.
