Poll: Huge Majority Of Americans Support Taxing The Rich Post Date: 2011-10-11 18:53:08 by Brian S

As the U.S. Senate prepares to vote down legislation that would raise tax rates on the wealthiest Americans to pay for a jobs plan that most economists believe would stop the recession, a new poll has surfaced showing just how out of touch those Senators are with mainstream America. According to figures released by Bloomberg and The Washington Post on Tuesday, eight in 10 Americans, including a majority of Republicans, support raising taxes on households earning over $250,000 a year. A full 81 percent of Democrats were behind the plan, along with 67 percent of independents and 53 percent of Republicans. Thats a huge leap in support from December 2010, when a Bloomberg poll found ...
Perry’s National Poll Numbers Worse Than Palin’s Post Date: 2011-10-11 18:52:02 by Brian S

Voters dislike Texas Gov. Rick Perry even more than former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, according to a national survey conducted by Public Policy Polling. Favorability ratings of Perry tanked in the last month, with only 23 percent of voters having a favorable opinion of him compared to 57 percent with a negative opinion. His favorability ratings are even worse with independents. Sixty-two percent of them have an unfavorable opinion of the Republican presidential candidate. The last time Palin was polled nationally, in August, her favorability spread was 32 percent to 62 percent. She announced last week that she wouldnt run for president in 2012. ...
Corporate-Financier Dominated Western Media Attempts To Wish-Away "Occupy The Fed" Movement Post Date: 2011-10-08 12:13:31 by Brian S

Even before its scheduled start this weekend, mention of the "Occupy the Fed" movement, which aims to bring attention to the real culprits behind America's economic plight, is spreading, not just across the United States, but overseas as well. The corporate-financier elite which dominates the Western media are attempting in vain to redirect the growing anger of the American people toward the middle class, with President Obama leading the way in a clumsy demagogic campaign of class warfare. Ironically, Obama's own administration is filled top to bottom with Wall Street bankers and Fortune 500 representatives eager to make sure the axe falls anywhere but upon their own ...
FACT CHECK: Romney Misfires On Defense Post Date: 2011-10-08 11:13:50 by Brian S

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney promised in his first major foreign policy speech to reverse "massive defense cuts" that actually have not happened. And he pledged to deploy missiles and ships that already are largely in place. A look at some of his statements at The Citadel military college in South Carolina on Friday and how they compare with the facts: ROMNEY: "As president, on day one, I will focus on rebuilding America's economy and I will reverse President Obama's massive defense cuts. Time and again, we have seen that attempts to balance the budget by weakening our military only lead to a far higher price, not only in treasure, but in ...
Forget 9-9-9, Santorum Unveils 0-0-0 Tax Plan Post Date: 2011-10-07 15:32:33 by Brian S

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has fellow candidate Herman Cains number. At campaign stops across the country, Cain has been touting his 9-9-9" tax plan. It calls for throwing out all existing tax policies and replacing them with a nine percent business flat tax, a nine percent individual flat tax, and a nine percent national sales tax. Friday at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., Santorum unveiled his own plan called 0-0-0. Earth To Republicans: Herman Cain, Your New Tea Party Hero, Backed Bush's Bank Bailouts Post Date: 2011-10-07 14:40:47 by Brian S

Cain, Romney, and Perry all backed Bush's bank bailouts (Scott Audette/Reuters) Here's the story tea party Republicans like to tell: infuriated with the TARP bank bailouts (passed in 2008 during the Bush administration), tea partiers decided to take control of their party from establishment politicians and replace them with true conservative outsiders. You know, guys like Herman Cain. The only problem is that back in 2008, guys like Herman Cain were the exact same establishment figures telling Republicans why they should support the bailouts. Here's Cain in October, 2008:Far from Nationalization, Purchase of Bank Stocks Is a Win-Win for Taxpayers Earth to ...
Poll: Obama Tops Romney, Perry As Smartest, Most Honest Candidate Post Date: 2011-10-07 13:32:10 by Brian S

Washington Americans consider President Barack Obama to be the smartest and most honest presidential hopeful against former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, according to a new poll, but religious groups differ on their views of the candidates attributes. The Barna Group surveyed 1,010 adults on their perceptions of the candidates honesty, intelligence, governmental philosophy and leadership ability. Obama scored highest on all attributes except leadership. Romney ranked the highest of the three on leadership ability, and outpolled Perry on all four attributes by small margins. Among evangelicals, Perry scored the highest and Romney scored the ...
David Koch Dodges Questions Over Shady Deals With Iran Post Date: 2011-10-07 12:55:29 by Brian S

ABC News caught David Koch leaving his Park Avenue apartment this week, but the tea party billionaire quickly fled to his car, avoiding questions about a scandal involving his companys trade with Iran. A recent report in Bloomberg Markets magazine revealed that Koch Industries had been caught paying bribes to win contracts, engaging in possibly-illegal trade with Iran, price fixing, and ignoring environmental regulations. The magazine also uncovered a Koch Industries document admitting that they had violated federal law. Jon Stewart Exposes Sarah Palin's 'Dishonorable' Campaign Fundraising Post Date: 2011-10-07 12:28:39 by Skip Intro

Before the media's obsession with whether or not Chris Christie would enter the GOP race, there was the media's obsession with whether or not Sarah Palin would enter the GOP race. But while Christie himself seemed to have very little to do with the national discussion about his potential candidacy, Sarah Palin has dangled the idea of her maybe considering thinking about running in front of her donors for months. On Thursday night's show, Jon Stewart put all this bus-wrapped indecisiveness in perspective by reminding us of what he said directly to Palin on September 28: "You are either running for President of the United States or you are a crazy person." But now, with ...

Ron Paul: Economy Is Biased Against The Poor, Middle Class Post Date: 2011-10-06 19:31:24 by Brian S

Texas congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said Thursday on CNN that the U.S. economic system was biased against the poor and middle-class. Paul was asked about a comment made by his fellow presidential candidate, Hermain Cain, who said that people should only blame themselves for not having a job and not being rich. I imagine that applies to a few people in this country, he said. But I dont come at it that way, because the system has been biased against the middle-class and the poor. Fox News Crew Maced and Beaten On Wall Street As Jon Stewart Mocks Fox’s Coverage Of Occupy Wall Street Post Date: 2011-10-06 15:21:01 by Brian S

As News Hounds has reported, Fox News has been dismissive of the Occupy Wall Street protests springing up across the nation. This seems odd, considering how much free publicity the unfair and balanced network gave to the astro-turfed Teabagger protests. Contrast that with Occupy Wall Street, which appears totally organic: A few weeks ago most people knew nothing of it and it has been growing daily, despite getting very little coverage in the MSM. This has obviously spooked the Fox News Channel because it has yet to accurately report on the protests. Instead the so-called news channel has employed the spin and ridicule for which its known when something disturbs ...
Democrat Forces House Vote On Resolution Demanding Perry Apology Over Hunting Camp Name Post Date: 2011-10-06 15:14:41 by Brian S

WASHINGTON The uproar over the name of a hunting camp once leased by the family of Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry reached the House floor on Thursday, as lawmakers derailed an effort to demand that Perry apologize. The five-page resolution offered by Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., was aimed at the name "Niggerhead" that was painted on a rock outside the Texas camp. The measure called on Perry, the Texas governor, to apologize for not immediately removing the rock and for taking people there to hunt. It also called on Perry's GOP presidential rivals to condemn the rock. Perry has said the name is offensive. He said that after he saw it, in 1983 or 1984, ...
Olbermann: Media ‘Too Corrupt Or Too Dense’ To Understand ‘Occupy Wall Street’ Post Date: 2011-10-06 11:41:37 by Brian S

Keith Olbermann blasted the mainstream media on his show Wednesday night for being either too corrupt or too dense to understand the Occupy Wall Street movement. Numerous media outlets repeated the criticism that the protest had no specific purpose or demands. Fox News host Charles Gasparino called the protest idiotic and CNN anchor Erin Burnett mocked the demonstration in her debut. The New York Times had described the protest as a noble but fractured and airy movement of rightly frustrated young people whose purpose was virtually impossible to decipher. Here is what Occupy Wall Street says and wants, Olbermann ...

WASHINGTON Up-and-coming Republican Senator Marco Rubio on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of running as a vice-presidential candidate in 2012, scotching widespread speculation he will appear on the ticket. Despite being near the top of any list of potential running mates for the eventual Republican nominee, 40-year-old Rubio said he was happy being a senator for Florida. Im not going to be the vice presidential nominee, he told an audience in Washington. If someone were to ask him, Rubio said, the answer is going to be no. Rubios supporters say he would invigorate any Republican ticket and give the party a huge boost in the key battleground ...
Ron Paul Calls Occupy Wall Street A ‘Legitimate Effort’ Post Date: 2011-10-05 19:54:33 by Brian S

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said Wednesday that the Occupy Wall Street protests were a legitimate effort, but he wasnt exactly sure what they are outraged about. I cant speak for the people out there because I dont know who they are or exactly what they are demonstrating against, Paul told the Nation Press Club. I can argue the case for their right to express their outright frustration with what is going on. Some are liberals and some are conservatives and some are libertarians and some are strict constitutionalists. And if you read carefully over what Ive written over the past 10 or 15 years, I talk a lot about this, ...

Appearing on Tuesday nights edition of Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) felt the need to correct former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney on the Occupy Wall Street movement. Earlier that day, the former Massachusetts governor labeled the protest dangerous and class warfare. The irony is that Romney is right, class warfare is being waged in America today. Sanders said. The problem is, the wrong side is winning. Cain’s 9-9-9 Arithmetic Raises Revenue Generation Questions Post Date: 2011-10-05 15:14:19 by Brian S

Herman Cains bid for the Republican presidential nomination is fueled in part by his proposed U.S. tax code overhaul that tax policy veterans say doesnt add up. His proposal is gaining attention after a Washington Post- ABC News poll released yesterday found that Cain is tied for second place with Texas Governor Rick Perry among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents. A Quinnipiac University poll published today has Cain in second place and Perry in third. In campaign stops, Cain touts his 9-9-9 plan as a concept that will lead to a fairer tax system. The proposal would tax sales transactions and gross income for individuals and businesses at 9 percent while ...

The Occupy Wall Street uprising that began one month ago with just 200 protesters has sparked a wave of occupations across the country. In cities like San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Memphis, Baltimore and beyond, people are joining forces in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street to demand an end to corporate dominance of Americas economic and political system that has left the poor and working class suffering under the weight of massive debt, joblessness, foreclosure and an uncertain future. As Occupy Wall Street continues to bring the struggle for economic and social justice directly to Americas financial district, there is another movement called October 2011 that plans to ...

Their style may not have been as mainstream as the retirees attending a Glenn Beck rally, but they knew precisely what they were there for. By Joshua Holland It should come as a surprise to nobody that the corporate media's early coverage of the Occupy Wall Street movement has featured an abundance of hippie-punching but very little about the substantive issues driving thousands of Americans to take over the streets of cities across the country. As I approached the 30 or so activists who have been camped out for weeks in front of the Federal Reserve Building as part of OccupySF a protest smaller than those in New York, Boston or Los Angeles I'd been primed by news ...
Ailes: 'I hired Sarah Palin because she was hot and got ratings' Post Date: 2011-10-05 13:01:42 by Skip Intro

Roger Ailes tells the AP that there was nothing political in his decision to hire Sarah Palin as a Fox News contributor. I hired Sarah Palin because she was hot and got ratings, he told Frazier Moore, APs television writer, in a long and wide-ranging interview. A television producer at heart, he offers an equally apolitical explanation of why Fox News has so thoroughly dominated its cable news competition for so long. "The consistency of our product," Ailes sums up matter-of-factly. "I think we do better television than the other guys, and no matter how we do it, they don't seem to catch up. We seem to out-invent them and think ahead of them, and ...
Rumsfeld Feuds With Al Jazeera Reporter: It’s Your Nature To Be Pejorative Post Date: 2011-10-05 11:41:52 by Brian S

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld had a less than cordial interview with Al Jazeera reporter Abderrahim Foukara this week. Do you think the numbers of US troops that you went into Iraq with did absolve you from the responsibility of tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis killed by the coalition and those criminals you talked about? Foukara asked Rumsfeld. Give me a straight answer. You can characterize my answers any way you want, Rumsfeld responded. And you do it in a pejorative way. No, I do it respectfully, Foukara shot back. No, you dont at all, Rumsfeld said. Obviously, you ...

Websites and Twitter accounts associated with the hacktivist collective Anonymous have warned that a planned cyber attack on New York Stock Exchange would be ineffective, hurt the image of the Occupy Wall Street movement and likely result in arrests. An Anonymous YouTube video began circulating on the Internet Monday that claimed the hacktivists had declared war on the New York Stock Exchange in an operation called Invade Wall Street. We can no longer stay silent as the population is being exploited and forced to make sacrifices in the name of profit, the video said. We will show the world that we are true to our word. On ...

Rallying attendees on the second afternoon of the Take Back The American Dream summit, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said of Republicans, If they want to have a debate on class warfare, well have that debate, because It wasnt our class that started the war on working Americans. Trumka used his time to illustrate many of the examples of what he termed the strange morality of the modern economy, from mass layoffs at Bank of America despite record profits to narratives in which the jobless are blamed for the unemployment crisis. He also noted that, The years from 1997-2010 represented the first protracted decline in family ...
