Harvard Journal Apologizes For Essay About Punishing Jews For Killing Jesus
Post Date: 2013-11-24 17:14:25 by Brian S
BOSTON A Christian journal run by Harvard University students has apologized for publishing and republishing an essay by an anonymous writer who wrote that Jews deserve to be punished by God for killing Jesus. The Boston Globe reports that the essay was posted on the Harvard Ichthus website on Wednesday, removed, edited, reposted Friday morning and removed again. Ichthus editor-in-chief Aaron Gyde posted an apology on the journal's website Saturday on behalf of the journal's editorial board. Gyde wrote that it wasn't the intent of the writer or the Ichthus to present an essay that could be interpreted as anti-Semitic. Gyde says the blog was intended to communicate the ...
How Many Americans Actually Believe The Earth Is Only 6,000 Years Old?
Post Date: 2013-11-11 12:38:05 by Brian S
For thirty years, Gallup has been asking Americans their views about evolution and human beings, and the results have been remarkably consistent and stable. Last year, Gallup once again reported that nearly half of the country believe the Biblical version of events: Forty-six percent of Americans believe in the creationist view that God created humans in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years. The Bible doesnt actually say how long ago the account of creation in the book of Genesis was supposed to have taken place. But in 1650, Church of Ireland Archbishop James Ussher used the stories of the Old Testament to calculate that the world had been created ...
Atheist Mega-Churches 'Take Root Across US, World'
Post Date: 2013-11-10 18:16:13 by Brian S
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- It looked like a typical Sunday morning at any mega-church. Hundreds packed in for more than an hour of rousing music, an inspirational sermon, a reading and some quiet reflection. The only thing missing was God. Dozens of gatherings dubbed "atheist mega-churches" by supporters and detractors are springing up around the U.S. after finding success in Great Britain earlier this year. The movement fueled by social media and spearheaded by two prominent British comedians is no joke. On Sunday, the inaugural Sunday Assembly in Los Angeles attracted more than 400 attendees, all bound by their belief in non-belief. Similar gatherings in San Diego, Nashville, New ...
Bolz-Weber’s liberal, foulmouthed articulation of Christianity speaks to fed-up believers
Post Date: 2013-11-04 22:25:53 by hondo68
A budding star of progressive Christianity: Nadia Bolz-Weber, a tattooed Lutheran minister, represents a new, muscular form of progressive Christianity. AUSTIN Nadia Bolz-Weber bounds into the University United Methodist Church sanctuary like a superhero from Planet Alternative Christian. Her 6-foot-1 frame is plastered with tattoos, her arms are sculpted by competitive weightlifting and, to show it all off, this pastor is wearing a tight tank top and jeans. Looking out at the hundreds of people crowded into the pews to hear her present the gospel of Jesus Christ, she sees: Dockers and blazers. Sensible shoes. Grandmothers and soccer moms. Nary a facial piercing. To ...

Questions for Muslims
Post Date: 2013-09-18 15:36:27 by redleghunter
Dear Muslim, I do not post these questions as a "proof" that Islam is false. I do not believe that is possible with a simple list of questions. Nevertheless, they are here to encourage discussion that the truth may be known. 1.The Qur'an says "To those who believe and do deeds of righteousness hath Allah promised forgiveness and a great reward" (Surah 5:9). A.Question: Are you doing enough good deeds to receive salvation on the Day of Judgment? B.Question: Are you doing all you can or are you relaxing in your dedication to Allah? 2.The Qur'an says, "O ye who believe! Turn unto Allah in sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will remit from you your ...

Post Date: 2013-08-05 16:49:18 by hondo68
(Photo Credit: CBS) PITTSBURGH (KDKA) Archaeologists working at an ancient church in Turkey believe they have unearthed a piece of the cross used to crucify Jesus. But it could take years of analysis before the world will know for sure. We have found a holy thing in a chest; its a piece of a cross, said one of the archaeologists. Workers believe that cross is the one Jesus died on Friday, April 3, 33 A.D. The piece of wood was discovered in a stone chest on the site of a church in Turkey, built in 660 A.D. The church also has frescoes on its walls depicting Jesus, Mary and the Apostles. Researchers arent sure who owned the chest, but it was probably a ...
WOMEN IN MINISTRY

As I was preparing this position paper I thought it would be a good idea to provide some background, along with the reason for it. I was raised in the Church of the Nazarene. We always had male pastors. I think this church denomination was a break-off from Methodism and Baptists...I don't remember nor do I much care. I recall seeing Kathryn Kuhlman on television, though I can't recall actually watching her program, and I know virtually nothing about her. I don't know her denominational association, if any. I recall a female missionary who along with her missionary husband, visiting relatives in our congregation and giving talks about their experiences over in Swaziland. I ...

Pope Francis wants 'poor Church for the poor'
Post Date: 2013-03-16 16:01:22 by Ferret Mike
The Pope on why he chose the name Francis, and the kind of Church he wants to see Pope Francis has said he wants "a poor Church, for the poor" following his election as head of the world's 1.2bn Catholics on Wednesday. He said he chose the name Francis after 12-13th Century St Francis of Assisi, who represented "poverty and peace". He urged journalists to get to know the Church with its "virtues and sins" and to share its focus on "truth, goodness and beauty". Pope Francis takes over from Benedict XVI, who abdicated last month. The former Argentine cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76, was the surprise choice of cardinals meeting in Rome to ...

I Am a Racist
By John Kirkwood / 15 March 2013 Alright then, I am a racist a hate-filled, bitter racist. I hate white people. In particular the pasty-white, liberal toads that froth from the Hamptons and that play the race card like Barack Obama plays golf sheisty, at great cost, and all of the time. Take for example the recent dust up between The Huffington Post and Adam Carolla. Social commentator and sometimes funny-man, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsome had an exchange with the brilliant and cutting Carolla about poverty, which was then shaped by Robin Wilkey of the Huffington Post to sound like Gandhi talking to David Duke. Carolla, who argued for personal ...

West Point Cadet Quits Military Academy Because Of Pervasive Christian Evangelism
Post Date: 2012-12-09 11:49:02 by Brian S
When Blake Page announced this week that he was quitting West Point a few months before graduation, citing the overt religiosity on campus, he raised recurring questions about the pervasiveness and impact of evangelical Christianity within the ranks of the US military. I do not wish to be in any way associated with an institution which willfully disregards the Constitution of the United States of America by enforcing policies which run counter to the same, Mr. Page wrote in his letter of resignation to the US Military Academy at West Point, in New York. He cites, among other things, routine prayers at mandatory events for cadets and the practice of awarding off-campus passes ...

Bryan Fischer, the director of issues analysis of the conservative fundamentalist American Family Association, on Thursday told a so-called expert who denies climate change that not using Gods fossil fuels would be like crushing someones feelings by rejecting their birthday present. The Cornwall Alliances Calvin Beisner, who has previously said that believing in climate change is an insult to God, explained on Thursday that the Bible said it was also very rude to not use oil, coal and natural gas. The wicked and lazy master was the one who buried his talent in the ground and didnt do anything to multiply it, Beisner ...
