Megiddo, The Place of Battles
Post Date: 2015-02-12 16:16:46 by redleghunter
Although Megiddo has been extensively chronicled in extra-biblical sources, it is only mentioned 12 times in the OT1 and once, indirectly, as Armageddon in the NT (Rv 16:16). Most Christians know the book of Revelation prophesies an end-times battle that will be fought at a place called Armageddon (Rv 16:16), and many know that Armageddon is, in fact, a corruption of the Greek word, ἉÁ¼±³µ´Î½ (Harmagedon) or the hill of Megiddo. A 35-acre (14 hectare) mound, 200 ft (60 m) high, in northwest Israel called Tell el-Mutesellim is believed to be the site of Megiddo. Tell el-Mutsellim, Megiddo. An aerial photo of the 35-acre ...
The Sacred Precinct on Mount Gerizim
Post Date: 2015-02-10 16:57:47 by redleghunter
Mount Gerizim is located south of Shechem and the Roman city of Neapolis. It rises to an elevation of 886 m (2900 ft) above sea level. Two important roads led to the mountain in ancient times: one from the north, from the vicinity of Shechem, and the second from the south. On Mount Gerizim are the remains of a Hellenistic city and a Byzantine church and its enclosure, covering over 100 acres in area. The archaeological excavations at the site began in 1982, directed by the author. Archaeological Staff Officer for Judaea and Samaria, and continued without interruption through 2000. The name Mount Gerizim occurs in the Old Testament from the beginning of the Israelite experience in the ...
Obama—Rev. Wright’s Star Pupil
Post Date: 2015-02-10 03:14:23 by nativist nationalist
A steady patriot of the world alone, The friend of every countrybut his own. George Cannings couplet about the Englishmen who professed love for all the world except their own native land comes to mind on reading Obamas remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast. After listing the horrors of ISIS, al-Qaida and Boko Haram, the president decided his recital of crimes committed in the name of Islam would be unbalanced, if he did not backhand those smug Christians sitting right in front of him. And lest we get on our high horse
remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our ...
Pagan Temple to Nordic Gods Being Constructed in Iceland
Post Date: 2015-02-08 10:01:01 by cranky
Reykjavík, Iceland, the site of the historic 1986 summit between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, will soon be getting its own pagan temple. A collective of followers called Ásatrúarfélagið has started construction on the shrine to Thor, Odin, and Frigg, that will overlook the capital city of Reykjavíkfor the first time since the Viking religion was superseded by Christianity, reports the Daily Beast. Indeed, as PBS notes, neo-paganism is now Icelands second largest religion behind Christianity. The country also ranks as one of the most atheistic in the world. The new pagan worship facility is expected to be completed next ...
Pope Francis: It's OK to Spank Children If It's Done With Dignity
Post Date: 2015-02-07 23:04:52 by GrandIsland
Pope Francis is stirring up controversy with remarks that its OK to spank children as long as its done with dignity. The pope was speaking at the Vatican this week on the importance of a good father. He recalled a conversation with a father who admitted he hit his children, but not in the face. How beautiful. He has a sense of dignity. He needs to punish them and he does it justly and moves on, Pope Francis reportedly said. A reverend who collaborates with the Vatican press office reportedly defended Pope Francis, saying, Simply watch Pope Francis when he is with children and let the images and gestures speak for themselves. Do you agree with Pope ...

On Thursday, at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., President Obama blithely informed his audience that Christians ought not get on their high horse about the problem of radical Islam:Unless we get on our high horse and think that this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ. So it is not unique to one group or one religion. There is a tendency in us, a simple tendency that can pervert and distort our faith. This is historically and philosophically illiterate. Historically ...
Imam Obama comes out at the National Prayer Breakfast
Post Date: 2015-02-06 08:54:09 by IbJensen
We can hear it now, much closer than ever before, the Islamic call to prayer, not in the far away MidEast, but here in the villages, towns and cities we call home. Well be hearing it more often as it begins to drown out the peals of church bells, now that Barack Hussein Obama came out as Imam Obama at Thursday National Prayer Breakfast. The president did not formally introduce himself as Imam Obama, not in so many words. That would have been too direct and up front, but he was suddenly Imam Obama all the same. Unless we get on our high horse and think that this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and Inquisition, people committed terrible ...
THE FUTURE MUST NOT BELONG TO THOSE WHO SLANDER CHRISTIANS BY HARPING ON THE CRUSADES
Post Date: 2015-02-05 20:45:36 by out damned spot
The easy joke about Barack Obamas bizarre, bigoted rant at the National Prayer Breakfast today is that he was trying to do Brian Williams of NBC News a favor, by taking attention away from him with a firestorm of outrage. Stunned and horrified Americans, and indeed Christians around the world, not to mention victims of Islamist horror from every religious background, will be trying to process Obamas idiotic words for days to come. Yes, folks, the President of the United States just told the civilized world it has no moral standing to criticize the head-choppers, child-crucifiers, slave- takers, and auto-da-fe enthusiasts of the modern world, because the Crusades happened a ...
Saudi Imam: Columbus Sailed to America to Kill all the Muslims
Post Date: 2015-01-30 12:49:58 by redleghunter
Islamic history is a pretty unique thing. Its the story of how everyone hates and conspires against Muslims. Saudi Arabia is a totalitarian state. If the authorities found his views unacceptable, he wouldnt have been able to preach them. This is mainstream stuff. Following are excerpts from a Friday sermon given by Imam Issa Assiri of the Saeed bin Jubair Mosque in Jedda, Saudi Arabia: "Dear believers, some notions require correction. For example, what we learned in school about the discovery of America is a lie. According to this story, the Spaniards loved spices, and since there was a shortage of spices in Europe and the price was high, they decided to send a ...
The Word and the Rule of Faith

Evangelicalism is awash in the 3Rs: retrieval, renewal, and ressourcement. As Michael Allen and Scott Swain explain in Reformed Catholicity, recently published by Baker Academic press, various movements have emerged sharing the conviction that the path to theological renewal lies in retrieving resources from the Christian tradition. In their view, these efforts have been haphazard, and their book sketches a programmatic assessment of what it means to retrieve the catholic tradition . . . on the basis of Protestant theological and ecclesiological principles. To that end, Baker and Swain offer an elegant, biblically grounded account of church tradition as a ...

For Years I Pleaded With God To Make Me Straight, So Why Did My Prayers Go Unanswered? By Matt Moore CP Guest Columnist January 26, 2015 matt moore I knew I was attracted to the same sex when I was seven in some capacity, anyway. I don't think it's physiologically possible to truly feel sexual attraction at such a young age. But I knew there was a drawing in me toward the same gender and drawing that was more than what some would say is "natural" or "normal." As I grew up in a rural Louisiana town and teenage hormones began to surge throughout my body, my drawing toward the same gender intensified sexually and emotionally. ...
Terrorists in Paris Don’t Understand How Free People Think

Terrorists in Paris Dont Understand How Free People Think Written on Friday, January 23, 2015 by David L. Goetsch It says a lot about the religion of Islam that its proponents react so violently to everyday expressions of free speech. After a magazine in Paris poked fun at Islamic extremism and lampooned the Prophet Muhammad, Muslim terrorists responded by demonstrating that the magazines portrayal of Islam was accurate. Hate-filled terrorists slaughtered 12 members of the magazines cartoon staff. The contrast between Islam and Christianity is breath taking. Christianswhose God is besmirched, belittled, and insulted on a regular basisare taught to turn the ...
Islam's War on Christians: Worst Yet to Come?
Post Date: 2015-01-22 20:50:06 by Gatlin
WASHINGTON -- From the Middle East to sub-Saharan Africa, Christians are enduring attacks for their faith like never before.
"The persecution of Christians is real, it is horrifically violent often, and it is spreading at unprecedented rate in modern times," said Dr. David Curry, president of Open Doors, a group that monitors religious freedom worldwide.
Curry said Christians faced the most persecution for their faith in 2014 than any other year in recent history.
"We have seen the sharpest jump in violent attacks against Christians in the modern era," he said.
Open Doors reports that 4,344 Christians were killed for their faith in 2014 -- double the number in 2013.
Rev. Graham:‘This Country Was Built on Christian Principles' Not Islam
Post Date: 2015-01-22 20:31:27 by Gatlin
(CNSNews.com) Reverend Franklin Graham, son of world-renowned evangelist Billy Graham, said America was built on Christian principles but Christians are being pushed to the back of the room today, and he added that Americans need to embrace those principles, knowing that this country wasnt built by Islam or any other group but by those who supported and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. I agree with diversity but whats happening with this country is all these religions are getting front row and Christians are being pushed -- and were the majority -- are being pushed back to the back of the ...
CHRISTIAN SCHOOL FORCED TO CLOSE AS INSPECTORS BRAND CHILDREN ‘BIGOTS’ FOR NOT KNOWING WHAT A MUSLIM IS
Post Date: 2015-01-22 11:49:59 by Gatlin
Inspectors have labelled pupils at a Christian school bigots and forced it to close after a young boy gave the wrong answer when asked what a Muslim was. Teachers at the school say he referenced terrorism in his answer, but argued that one childs throwaway answer was no ground for closing the whole school. Durham Free School, which currently educates 94 pupils aged between 11 and 13, was praised by former education secretary Michael Gove when it opened in September 2013, the Daily Mail has reported. But inspectors visiting the school last November, after the new guidelines encouraging inspectors to rate schools on how they promote British values, deemed the school to have ...
The GOP's wrong-headed obsession with the 'Christian candidate'
Post Date: 2015-01-22 11:38:53 by Gatlin
Pondering the increasing likelihood of Mitt Romney 2016, Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight recently produced a five-circle Venn diagram of prospective GOP candidates for 2016, aptly titled, "The Republicans' Five-Ring Circus." There was a telling inclusion: "Christian Conservative" was one of the five rings. Silver places Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, and, to a lesser degree, Mike Pence, Rick Perry, and Bobby Jindal in this Christian Conservative category. I might add Ted Cruz and Ben Carson, at least on the margins, but Silver's labeling scheme is basically right. Religion matters for Democrats, too. But the awarding of the "Christian candidate" ...
Controversial group stakes out "Christian areas" in London
Post Date: 2015-01-22 11:27:02 by Gatlin
LONDON -- On a Friday night in East London, activists with a group called "Britain First" took to the streets for what they call a Christian patrol. Our cameras went along with them as they entered a "predominantly Muslim occupied area," according to one of the group's members. It wasn't long before there was a confrontation. "What are you filming me for?" shouted a passerby. "This ain't your area pal, it's a Christian area, always has been," shouted back Paul Golding, the 32-year-old leader of Britain First. A former truck driver, Golding has been convicted for harassment. While it's difficult to know how many supporters he ...
Of the Father’s Love Begotten
Post Date: 2015-01-21 16:45:21 by redleghunter
This past Lords Day we sang a hymn a cappella called Of the Fathers Love Begotten. Besides being a particularly beautiful tune (in spite of my singing a cappella) and having glorious theology wonderfully phrased in english, it has an impressive history. Ive been reading ahead for next semester in some of the courses for which I am registered. One required text is Mark Nolls Turning Points: Decisive Moments in the History of Christianity. Through the first quarter of the text, it is delightful and I expect the rest to follow suit. Regardless, the third chapter is introduced with a poem written by Aurelius Clemens Prudentius of the same title as our hymn. ...
When a nation murders 57 million babies & ignores gathering storm of Radical Islam, the state of the union is not “strong.”

(Costa Mesa, California) America, for all that we have endured; for all the grit and hard work required to come back; for all the tasks that lie ahead, know this: The shadow of crisis has passed, and the State of the Union is strong. So began President Obama on Tuesday night in his 2015 State of the Union address to the nation and to a Joint Session of Congress. He was not the first American President to declare the state of the union strong. But with all due respect, the President is wrong. When a nation murders 57 million innocent babies, the state of the union is not strong. When a nation overtaxes and overregulates and over burdens the economy and ...
Saudi single women challenge tradition in love and marriage
Post Date: 2015-01-21 07:13:32 by Willie Green
JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia (AP) Amna Fatani knows she wants a brilliant career and a life different from that of Saudi women of her mother's generation who married early, usually to a husband not of their own choosing. The 27-year-old, studying for her master's degree at Georgetown University in Washington and hoping to someday become Saudi Arabia's first female labor minister, is part of a growing number of Saudi women choosing to remain single through their 20s and into their 30s as they pursue other ambitions. The trend has ruffled ultraconservatives who see it as an affront to the very foundations of the kingdom, where strict interpretations of Islam and rigid tribal ...

How Can Religion Let Loose Humanity's Most Violent Impulses
Post Date: 2015-01-20 15:14:24 by Gatlin
Religion is just one part of the lethal cocktail, but it is a powerful intoxicant. The year 2015 has opened to slaughter in the name of gods. In Paris, two Islamist brothers executed Charlie Hebdo cartoonists in defense of the Prophet, while an associate killed shoppers in a kosher grocery. In Nigeria, Islamist members of Boko Haram massacred a town to cries of Allahu AkbarAllah is the greatest! Simultaneously, the United Nations released a report detailing the ethnic cleansing of Muslims in the Central African Republic by Christian militias, sometimes reciting Bible verses. On a more civilized note, Saudi Arabia began inflicting 1000 lashes on a jailed ...
Christian Blogger Declares Leggings "Lustful"
Post Date: 2015-01-20 14:40:44 by Gatlin
Christian blogger and Oregon mom, Veronica Partridge, took her struggle over whether or not to wear leggings to the internet. Partridge's love of leggings was weighing "heavy on my heart," she wrote on her self-named blog. So the blogger asked her husband, motivational speaker Dale Partridge, his thoughts on leggings. According to Partridge her husband said, "When I walk into a place and there are women wearing yoga pants everywhere, it's hard to not look. I don't, but it's not easy." And with that singular confession of lust and arousal over what's essentially women's shit-clothing, Partridge decided to ditch leggings for more modest clothes. ...
The bizarre – and costly – cult of Richard Dawkins

The bizarre and costly cult of Richard DawkinsIts like a church without the good bits. Membership starts from $85 a month The other day I wrote something to upset the followers of Richard Dawkins and one of them tracked me down to a pub. I had been asked to give a talk to a group of Skeptics in the Pub about whether there are any atheist babies clearly not, in any interesting sense and at the end a bearded bloke, bulging in a white T-shirt, asked very angrily where Dawkins had said there were any. I quoted a couple of his recent tweets on the subject: When you say X is the fastest growing religion, all you mean is that X people have babies at ...
