In this episode I discuss the guitar players that every serious guitarist [or those who just appreciate music/guitar and different styles] should know between 1970-1979. A comprehensive guide of styles covering Classical, Blues, Jazz, Country and Rock & Roll. ~ Rick Beato Poster Comment:(btw, where did the 'MUSIC' category go??) This guy, Rick Beato, does a tremendous job of explaining and breaking down the dynamics and styles of music overall -- and specifically in this case, 1970s Guitarists. As most of us already know, that decade represented the pinochle of amazing axe work. Pretty fascinating overview and breakdown of what went on (there's a 'Part 1' as well), ...

Four new reasons to Rock Billy Boogie

Gloriously, scandalously electric rock and roll was never the 'passing craze' 1950s detractors assailed it as being. Of racially and experientially blended character, the defiantly upstart style was much more powerful than the milquetoastian polite society strictures it forever rattled into rubble. In its fecund youth, rock and roll spoke to and for entire swaths of under-celebrated America: the poor, blue collar workers, blacks, teenagers. Anyone who dwelt 'outside,' and intuited that the mannerly crooners blaring from 'Your Hit Parade' broadcasts weren't 'of' them, and didn't care to be. Those powdered songbirds would probably shrink from the ...

The 9 Most Hated Professions

Certain images pop into your head when you think about some professions, and these images aren't always so favorable. The reason they come to mind is probably not because of your personal experience with a particular profession, but your impression is instead based on the way these professions are portrayed on television, in movies, or on what you know about the few bad seeds that are present in every field of work. Let's take a look at why we hate some professions and learn the truth about them. Who knows ... you may wind up finding your future career, once you know the facts about it. 01 Dentists A trip to the dentist usually means you* will have a little bit of discomfort, if ...

The 'outrageous' 40-year-old film that predicted the future

When Network was released in November 40 years ago, the poster warned audiences to prepare themselves “for a perfectly outrageous motion picture”. The film was written by Paddy Chayevsky (Marty, The Hospital) and directed by Sidney Lumet (Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon), both of whom made their names in television in the 1950s, and both of whom believed that the industry, and the world, had been in decline ever since.Network was their furious howl of protest. It was a triumphant black comedy, winning four Oscars, being nominated for two more, and going on to be held in ever higher acclaim. In 2006, the Writers Guilds of America chose Chayevksy’s screenplay as one of the 10 best ...

A Mexican Town OVERTHREW Their Local Government And Things Are Going Great

The town of Cherán was once plagued by people claiming the right to rule over them and now they live peaceful lives free of violence. After the town of 20,000 people in Mexico decided to take matters into their own hands by kicking out politicians, cops, and criminals, the now completely voluntary society is running great and the people finally have freedom and peace. Cherán is now run by autonomous groups of armed individuals acting on a voluntary basis, with no one making laws, but no one harming each other either.  Choosing to work together instead of submitting to the authoritarian regime previously claiming ownership over the town and those ...

A Strange Evolution: When Fundagelicals Loved the ACLU
Post Date: 2018-06-30 09:00:42 by Gatlin

Long, long ago, when I was a wee bright-eyed Pentecostal lass, I had a run-in with an anti-theist college professor. I wrote about it a few years ago, but I always intended to come back to that story because there was a part I hadn’t mentioned at the time. You see, my evangelical peers had an instant–and unanimous–response to the situation when I told them about it. They wanted me to go talk to the ACLU. Does that shock you? Surprise you? It should. I’ll tell you about it today. Today, Lord Snow Presides over another strange evolution in fundagelicalism.(Scott Granneman, CC-SA.) Set The Wayback Machine. As I said in that earlier post, it must have been 1988 or 1989. I ...

Libertarian Songs [Full Thread]

On social media (such as Twitter, Facebook, Google+) I often post a libertarian song of the day. I didn’t really think anyone really cared or paid attention. That is until I didn’t do so for a few days, then I had all kinds of people asking if I was OK! Below is a list of songs I believe have at least some libertarian (small l) spirit to them. Yes, some of these do have swear words and adult concepts. This list is far from complete. I just add to it as I do my ‘libertarian song of the day’ thing (and I’m not gonna bother putting older ones I posted until I get to them again). I have also included the link to each artists website. This is my way to give credit where ...

What Purpose Do Mosquitoes Serve?
Post Date: 2018-06-24 13:18:46 by Justified

Mosquitoes seem to serve no purpose other to annoy us. But from the mosquitoes' point of view, their purpose is to make more mosquitoes. From the point of view of birds, fishes, frogs and other animals that eat them, their purpose is to provide a source of food. But does the world actually need mosquitoes? It's hard to find a reason. An article by Janet Fang in the July 2010 magazine Nature asked scientists what the world would be like without mosquitoes. Most of them thought that we wouldn't miss the annoying little creatures. Disease among humans would decrease, if the mosquitoes that spread malaria, dengue fever, encephalitis and other illnesses disappeared. In the ...

Procol Harum - Conquistador // Denmark - 2006 (LIVE)

Spectacular stirring rendition of Procol Harem's 'Conquistador', featuring a a tight Danish orchestra from 2016 -- nearly 45 years after the original. Of note, the studio album rendition did not originally feature the orchestra section was re-released as a live 1972 version (similar to this) and featuring the London Symphony Orchestra. That was the rendition widely played on radio. Gary Brooker's soulful vocals remained largely unchanged after all this time. This classic ditty was always under-appreciated; Musically, it has everything. Poster Comment:

Latest Internet Prank Is Tricking People Into Putting Aluminum Foil Into The Microwave

The latest viral internet prank is somehow tricking people into putting a ball of aluminum foil in their microwaves. The sad truth is people are trying it and it could cause an explosion and fire in your house. We feel like we shouldn’t have to remind people of this, but then again we also had to tell people not to snort condoms or ingest a Tide pod, so you know 2018 has already scraped the bottom of all the barrels, or so we’d hoped.  But alas, we were wrong. People are putting balls of foil in their microwaves. The newest internet prank is a tweet urging people to microwave a ball of aluminum foil for three minutes. According to IFL Science, it seems ...
