The web server running LibertysFlame.com has reached the end of its support cycle, and therefore needs to be upgraded. I'll be doing the upgrade in the next day or three. This will be a major upgrade from Ubuntu 10.04 to perhaps version 14.x, so there may be an extended outage if there are any issues. This is advanced notice so you know what is going on. Thanks.

Rushes to Judgment: The Top 10 Assassination Movies Post Date: 2015-04-23 09:18:20 by Deckard

April 15 is the 150th anniversary of Pres. Abraham Lincolns death. The cinema is full of assassination and conspiracy-themed plots. Dont forget, the Great Emancipator was shot by actor John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865 at Fords Theatre while watching the play Our American Cousin. One hundred years ago D.W. Griffith directed what may be the first major Hollywood motion picture to depict a political assassination scene: 1915s The Birth of a Nation (the film used as a recruiting tool for the KKK), with future director Raoul Walsh playing Booth. The Lincoln slaying was part of a political plot by sympathizers of the just defeated Confederacy. But the 1963 shooting of ...
Haters are going to hate but they also might be less productive in the workplace, study says Post Date: 2015-04-19 00:58:58 by Gatlin

EAST LANSING, MI -- Science tells us that haters are going to hate, but a recent study by Michigan State University researchers also says haters in the workplace are less productive. According to a study by Michigan State University management professor Russell Johnson and doctoral student Szu-Han Lin, workers who point out problems in the office without offering solutions often become mentally fatigued and defensive. This can lead to a drop-off in production, Johnson said. However, those who suggest ideas for improvement can have a positive effect on the work place, he said. "The moral of this story is not that we want people to stop raising concerns within the company, because ...

HAPPY EASTER, Liberty Flamers! The letters "INRI" are initials for the Latin title that was posted over the head of Jesus Christ on the cross. The English translation is, "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews." Imagine--if you can, dear hearts-- That twas you---who went to find An empty tomb--JESUS gone Guard soldiers all struck blind Imagine--hearing an angel speak-- Saying "He is risen, and is not here"!! How happy would your heart be-- Could you retain-- that joyful tear? Imagine--the hastening of your steps As you rushed to share the news. The rocky path, no longer steep But smooth beneath your shoes Imagine remembering the promise ...
Google 'makes people think they are smarter than they are' Post Date: 2015-04-01 10:41:53 by Deckard

Search engines like Google or Yahoo make people think they are smarter than they actually are because they have the world's knowledge at their fingertips, psychologists at Yale University have found. Browsing the internet for information gives people a widely inaccurate view of their own intelligence and could lead to over-confidence when making decisions, experts warn. In a series of experiments, participants who had searched for information on the internet believed they were far more knowledgeable about a subject that those who had learned by normal routes, such as reading a book or talking to a tutor. Internet users also believed their brains were sharper. "The ...

That's what SysAdmin told me he was told the condo admin was told. So there you have it. I have no other details.

How to Survive a Dog Attack (If you aren't a cowardly, diaper-wetting cop) Post Date: 2015-03-12 07:18:17 by Deckard

When I lived in Tijuana, Mexico fending off roñosos (mangy) stray dogs was a daily battle. Most of the time they were all bark and no bite. Just remaining calm, avoiding eye contact, and continuing on my way was all I needed to do. If they started charging, I pretended to pick up a rock from the ground and feigned throwing it at them. That usually spooked them enough to leave me alone. If that didnt work, actual rocks were used. There was one time when a dog wasnt deterred by either the pretend or real variety, and lunged to bite me. I used a backpack as a shield and employed a flurry of kicks to keep the aggressive canine at bay. It ...
Exposing O’Reilly ("Killing Kennedy" Lies) Post Date: 2015-03-06 05:26:28 by Deckard

The recent questionable claims by Fox News pundit Bill OReilly regarding his Falklands War coverage are not his most embellished accounts. OReilly made several exaggerations and false claims in Killing Kennedy, his spin on the assassination of our 35th President. One of his lies, which in the past week has been disproved by CNN, Politico, Slate and many other news organizations regarded the mysterious George de Mohrenschildt. De Mohrenschildt, the only close friend in Dallas of alleged Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, was also connected to George HW Bush, the CIA, Texas oil and businessmen, and, incredibly, Jackie Kennedy.I feel ...

Last weeks email newsletter touched on the much-discussed issue of distracted driving. The meteoric rise in cell phone use, particularly with texting, has brought renewed focus on inattentive driving. The Christian Science Monitor published an article in June 2008 which points to a more pervasive cause of distracted driving the over-regulation of U.S. traffic through roadway signs. Per the article, British behavioral psychologist John Staddon believes traffic signs actually make streets more dangerous for motorists and pedestrians. He believes that traffic signs condition drivers to be less observant. Drivers trained to rely on instructional signs, rather than their own ...
