Schoolhouse Rots
Post Date: 2022-12-22 16:48:56 by Charles_Byrd
In our local newspaper there has been extensive coverage of this year’s schoolboard elections and the numerous newcomers running on a platform of “reform.” What used to be a mundane aspect of local civic life has been charged with national political rhetoric and talking points, and schoolboards have become battlegrounds across the country. While it is good that interest and concern regarding education is increasing, calls for reform and policy change are unlikely to improve the status quo very much until the foundational assumptions built into the system are rooted out. The rot is deep. This isn’t the age of schoolhouse rocks, but schoolhouse rots. For thirteen years I ...

State climate curriculum says 'emotions' should outweigh 'rational thinking'
Post Date: 2022-12-21 21:47:42 by Charles_Byrd
The Washington state Department of Health’s climate curriculum instructs teachers to focus on “emotions” over “rational thinking,” according to curriculum lesson plans. The Washington state Department of Health released a five part curriculum to help students learn the “intersections of biological, societal, and environmental issues.” The second phase of the curriculum, “Climate Change & Pregnancy,” tells educators and students to “pay attention” to their emotions as “for too long” science has caused “rational thinking” to be prioritized. Funding Education Opportunity: Midterm school choice success, new K-12 open enrollment report, and more
Post Date: 2022-12-14 20:23:00 by Charles_Byrd
While the midterm elections will likely leave Congress in political gridlock, candidates from both major political parties supporting school choice policies won impressive victories. On the Republican side, with the exception of Arizona, every state in which the GOP held a trifecta—governor and both legislative chambers—going into the election and had “enacted large, new school-choice programs or significantly expanded existing ones in the past two years kept that trifecta,” noted The Heritage Foundation’s Jason Bedrick and Lindsey Burke. The midterms helped illustrate school choice can be a winning policy issue for candidates. Voters in Florida’s Miami-Dade ...

K 12: Excuses, excuses, always excuses
Post Date: 2022-12-11 22:33:41 by Charles_Byrd
For many decades, the Education Establishment has shown itself unable or unwilling to improve public schools. I suspect they actually prefer wallowing in failure; this serves their ideological goals – namely, Americans should settle for mediocrity because that's how we make the world more equitable. A big topic now is how will students recover from the Covid pandemic. Sounds reasonable, but the Washington Post ran a long article full of double talk: on the one hand this, on the other hand that. This smorgasbord of expert opinions pointing in every direction gives each teacher and administrator a choice of excuses for letting their school remain stunted. Click for Full Text!

The Babylon Bee Publishes a Hysterical Spoof of a College English Course Description. Oh, Wait!
Post Date: 2022-12-11 22:32:11 by Charles_Byrd
The Babylon Bee is far and away the leading source of conservative satirical content on the internet. Its writers brilliantly skewer the entire spectrum of woke and PC nonsense on a daily basis. Its pieces are shared widely in social media by clear thinkers seeking comedic relief in the face of the avalanche of increasingly crazy and dangerous ideas, positions, and rhetoric emanating by the American left. Soviet America? Military Official and Cops Bully Mom for Concern Over Her Child’s School Sexualization
Post Date: 2022-12-08 21:07:41 by Charles_Byrd
It’s a shocking story. Imagine you complain on Facebook about your child’s school curriculum. You then get some feedback: An army officer calls you an “extremist” and writes that military “leadership have had the Security Forces working with multiple state and local law enforcement agencies to monitor” your situation. St. Martin Lutheran School for the Deaf: Teaching the ‘whole person’
Post Date: 2022-12-08 18:05:01 by Charles_Byrd
The Rev. Thomas Dunseth was serving as an LCMS missionary in Macau, China, when he first met Deaconess Diana Rice. At the time, Rice’s surname was Lei, and she was a 16-year-old student at Concordia School for Special Education (CSSE) in Macau. Rice, who has been deaf since age 5, was born in Fujian, China, but when she was 13 years old, her family moved to Macau to access the city’s more extensive educational resources for the deaf. Dunseth said, “It was pretty clear when I first met [Diana] that she was already an exceptional student — naturally bright, with an inquisitive mind.” Click for Full Text!

Post Date: 2022-12-07 19:01:44 by Charles_Byrd
Vermont will now apply its tuition benefit program to families who choose to send their children to religious schools. In 1869, Vermont established its Town Tuition Program to provide vouchers to families so they could attend the school of their choice when living in a small town without public schools. Exclusionary Inclusionism
Post Date: 2022-12-02 18:17:23 by Charles_Byrd
If you want to keep people beyond arm’s length, sounding phony can do better than flatulence. Just the wrong words can widen the radius around a speaker instantly. Why do you think college professors kept repeating “heuristic” all those years? The upper crust of the educational elite goes out of its way rousing that “get-it-offa-me” sensation with the lingo they choose. Keeping Joe Six-Pack creeped-out and hostile is one way egg-heads dodge scrutiny. Vocabulary that works like a cheese grate on ears is a screening tactic Tacitus himself never thought up. “Equity” has taken over where “heuristic” left off in the academic posing department. ...

‘Behavioral Re-Education Camps’ – Cali School District Produces Video of What a Return to School Will Look Like [Full Thread]
Post Date: 2020-07-25 02:59:09 by Deckard
The debate about opening schools in the fall is heating up, and sadly, it has already become a partisan issue. Liberals have taken the stance that it is not safe to re-open schools, while blasting conservatives who seem to really want schools to reopen.Whatever side you’re on in this conversation, if schools do re-open, kids will be subjected to an insane regiment of new distancing and safety measures. In fact, it won’t look like school much at all, but more like a behavioral re-education camp. Fullerton School District near Anaheim California recently produced a promotional video for parents, demonstrating what the ‘new normal’ will look like for school kids. And while ...

Drinking tonic water will not prevent or cure coronavirus
Post Date: 2020-04-13 21:09:52 by Gatlin
Drinking tonic water will not prevent or cure coronavirus CLAIM: Tonic water or quinine supplements can be used to prevent or treat coronavirus symptoms. AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. Medical experts say as of now there is no proven medication or home remedy that can cure coronavirus. THE FACTS: Posts circulating on Facebook and Twitter suggest that drinking tonic water from Schweppes or Fever-Tree will work to treat the new coronavirus because the drinks contain quinine. Other posts tout a combination of tonic water and zinc, an idea that gained traction after a St. Louis chiropractor posted a video recommending the combination. Experts say there is no scientific evidence that quinine ...

Secret Service Wants Schools to Report More Weirdos
Post Date: 2019-12-13 07:26:06 by Deckard
The Daily Bell – by Joe Jarvis The Secret Service released a report last month analyzing school shootings and violence and recommending how to prevent such attacks. According to the Secret Service, it all boils down to more intrusive surveillance in school and online. Treat everyone who is depressed or anxious like they are going to shoot up the school.  The report says that schools should monitor any students in distress, including their social media profiles. Schools should randomly search desks and lockers, and encourage students to report any of their peers for practically any reason whatsoever. Students, school personnel, and family members should be encouraged to ...

The Conspiracy to Control and Dominate Education in the United States has Caused the Downfall of Society
Post Date: 2019-11-23 03:30:16 by Deckard
What a normal human being often fails to see in light of everyday struggles and strife, of political upheaval, of commitment to false national pride, is the unbelievable majesty of life. In order to discover this singularly unique beauty, love must be present, but love alone cannot sustain the tragedy of life that is the division consuming the human mind, body, and spirit today. Intelligent thought is necessary. The destruction of learning, with the inadequate replacement of commonality, has bred by design a society steeped in an ignorance of life, and an unnatural contempt for others. This intentional eradication of individual intellect brought with it a hostile prejudice toward the ...

What Is Cancel Culture and What Does It Have to Do with the SPLC?
Post Date: 2019-11-20 12:28:20 by Judas Goat
Former President Barack Obama recently made waves online when he critiqued “woke” activism, a part of what has become known as “cancel culture.” Obama spoke to a crowd gathered at the Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago and said that he sees college students and other young people thinking they can only bring about change by being “as judgmental as possible about other people…” “That’s not activism,” Obama said. “That’s not bringing about change. If all you’re doing is casting stones, you’re probably not going to get that far. That’s easy to do.” Cancel culture is about taking the easy route of shutting down ...

Snip: The Left focuses on cultural and institutional power by communicat- ing its ideological initiatives in terms of “values” while targeting the placement of cadre throughout the mass line so they can enable those “values” by converting them first to norms, then to policy, and final- ly to law. „ What is popularly called “fake news” and the “deep-state” are better understood as propaganda and the counter-state. Transitioning to a political warfare analysis, one begins to discern methods, processes and directionality that terms like “fake news” and “deep-state” do not capture. By their nature, media terms like “fake ...

Seattle Public Schools Will Start Teaching That Math Is Oppressive
Post Date: 2019-10-22 15:46:07 by Deckard
A new ethnic studies curriculum will teach students that "ancient mathematical knowledge has been appropriated by Western culture." (Gregory Johnston | Dreamstime.com) Math is a deeply frustrating subject for many elementary and high school students. But Seattle public schools are gearing up to accuse math of a litany of more serious crimes: imperialism, dehumanization, and oppression of marginalized persons. The district has proposed a new social justice-infused curriculum that would focus on "power and oppression" and "history of resistance and liberation" within the field of mathematics. The curriculum isn't mandatory, but provides a resource for teachers ...

Ohio Police Fired Blanks During School Shooter Drill, Needlessly Terrifying Students
Post Date: 2019-10-02 23:40:13 by Deckard
Increasingly theatrical and frightening active shooter drills are surprisingly common, even though school shootings are not. (Victority | Dreamstime.com) Police officers outside of Dayton, Ohio, unsheathed their weapons and fired blanks in Franklin High School on Tuesday as part of a misguided effort to prepare students for a possible active shooter. The planned drill unnecessarily ratcheted up the intensity of school lockdown procedures, which routinely require students and teachers to barricade themselves in their classrooms. That the exercise was potentially traumatizing was not lost on the officials who planned it, as they came equipped with "Social-Emotional Activities," as ...
