Tea Partiers Smell Victory in Nevada Republican Senate Race to Challenge Reid Published June 07, 2010 | FOXNews.com
Race to Watch:
Senate Republican Primary -- Sue Lowden v. Danny Tarkanian v. Sharron Angle
Defeating Harry Reid of Nevada would be the biggest conquest for Republicans seeking to oust another Democratic Senate majority leader as they did to South Dakota's Tom Daschle in 2004.
Opponents accuse Reid of neglecting Nevada while battling on behalf of President Obama's agenda, particularly on the issues of health care, the stimulus and immigration.
Despite heavy advertising, Reid trails most potential Republican opponents in opinion polls in a state where the economy has tanked and the Big Three GOP challengers have all kinds of appeal. Tea Party Express-endorsed candidate former state Assemblywoman Sharron Angle, businessman Danny Tarkanian, whose father is a well-known former college basketball coach, and powerhouse Sue Lowden who has been hurt by her statement that patients could barter for health care the way people used to trade chickens for medical attention.
Reid is extremely vulnerable, but the infighting could help him as the top three Republicans have weakened the one-time frontrunner and put Angle up from a negligible showing six weeks ago to a lead over both Lowden and Tarkanian, in part attributable to endorsements and cash from the Tea Party Express and Club for Growth.
