Title: Cohen pleads guilty in new deal with Mueller

Cohen appeared in federal court in Manhattan Thursday where he entered a guilty plea for misstatements to Congress in closed-door testimony last year about his contacts with Russians during the presidential campaign.

Cohen has now promised to “put family and country first” by cooperating with prosecutors, becoming perhaps the most pivotal public witness against his former boss.

Cohen’s earlier plea deal with federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York implicated President Trump in campaign finance felonies. Since then, Cohen has spent more than 70 hours in interviews with Mueller's team. The questioning has focused on contacts with Russians by Trump associates during the campaign, Trump’s business ties to Russia, obstruction of justice and talk of possible pardons.

“The potential significance of Cohen’s cooperation is immense, for most high- powered business people with complex business interests, having one’s personal attorney become a star witness for the prosecution is the worst possible legal nightmare."” said Kendall Coffey, a former United States Attorney in Florida.

I didn't see that anyone else had posted this news....

We have known for some months that The Special Prosecutor's office, other federal, and state courts have had all of Mr. Cohen's records on the greasy toad's business. We have also know for some months that Mr. Cohen claimed that he was going to be putting the best interests of the American people and his family first.

Now, we know that Mr. Cohen has made good on his promise.

I find the timing interesting too. Just days following the submission of Dip- Shit's responses to Mueller's questions...Mikey the fixer signs the paperwork??

I looks like the Special Prosecutor got what he wanted.

[Poster comment] I[t] looks like the Special Prosecutor got what he wanted.

It looks likie he barely got enough to play pocket pool.

[Article] Cohen’s earlier plea deal with federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York implicated President Trump in campaign finance felonies.

What unidentified non-crime "felonies" would that be?

Talking to Russians is not a crime.

Exploring a deal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow is not a crime.

Exploring a deal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow from 1987 to January or June 2016 is not a crime.

If Michael Cohen intentionally gave false statements to Federal investigators, he may have committed a crime. Michael Cohen giving a false statement to the FBI does not implicate Donald Trump in the crime of giving a false statement to the investigators.

[Excerpt]

Dershowitz: I think the weakness of Mueller's substantive findings are suggested by the fact that he has to resort to false statement prosecutions. Which really shows that he didn't start with very much, that the very fact that he is conducting an investigation has created these crimes. These are not crimes that have been committed prior to his appointment. They are crimes that were committed as a result of his appointment, and that raises some questions about the role of special prosecutors in creating crimes, or creating opportunities for crimes to be committed. In the end, I don't think Muellere is going to come up with very much in terms of criminal conduct that existed before he was appointed, that is quite shocking.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2018/11/30/alan-dershowitz-says-robert-mueller-is-looking-political-sin/

“The problem is Mueller is straying away from his mandate to find crime, and he is now looking for political sin,” Dershowitz said to Hannity. “Building buildings in Moscow, using stolen material from [Julian] Assange — these are not crimes. He has no authority to be a roving commissioner to find political sins.

“So far, I don’t see any evidence of crimes, except for ones that he helped to facilitate by getting people to lie in front of his own investigators.”

Hi counselor!

Yeah, we'll see....perhaps there is much much more that has been shared (a million documents gathered in the raid for instance)

On a personal note, using fox news and alan dersowitz to support your position really doesn't carry much weight....

Says the man who uses George Stephanopolous and ABC as his source.

Says the man who presents an article claiming that, "Cohen’s earlier plea deal with federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York implicated President Trump in campaign finance felonies," and when challenged by my #13 to identify the supposed felonies, has no substantive response.

What felonies has horseface presented?

Where is the beef in the nothing burger?

What felonies did Stephanopoulos fantasize about?

What, the article did not identify the supposed felonies? Great journalism.

The difference is stark, Dershowitz is offering opinion - Stephanopolous is reporting news.

What felonies did Stephanopoulos fantasize about?

Perhaps the same ones you do???

The Stephanopoulos Mess

ABC anchor proves to be his own worst enemy.

By JACK SHAFER
May 14, 2015
Updated May 14, 2015

Former Clintonland insider George Stephanopoulos, who has excelled at both politics and journalism, appears to have failed both professions with a single transgression.

As my POLITICO colleague Dylan Byers reported today, ABC News’ “This Week” and “Good Morning America” host Stephanopoulos has donated a total of $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation, something he had not previously disclosed to viewers or his employers. In a statement to Byers, Stephanopoulos apologized for not disclosing the gifts. ABC News called the oversight an “honest mistake,” a sentiment Stephanopoulos amplified in an afternoon interview with Byers.

“We stand behind him,” the network also offered, which is corporate-speak for we will bind George in barbed wire and dump him into a surging storm sewer and drive off into the night the minute he becomes an intolerable distraction.

The donation corrodes much of the journalistic credibility Stephanopoulos has labored so carefully to build since joining ABC News as a correspondent and analyst in December 1996.

[...]

Most politicians cross over to media with the understanding that they will continue their partisan ways. But others, such as Stephanopoulos, Sawyer and Russert agree implicitly and explicitly to leave that baggage behind. In shelling out $75,000 to the politically identified Clinton Foundation, Stephanopoulos has betrayed that compact, torched the journalism-cred he has acquired in the past two decades, and obviously forgotten the lessons in political savvy he learned as a member of Bill Clinton’s inner circle.

[...]

George Stephanopoulos, (born February 10, 1961, Fall River, Massachusetts, U.S.), American political commentator, best known as an anchor of the ABC (American Broadcasting Company) morning news program Good Morning America (2009– ), chief Washington correspondent of ABC news (2005– ), and the host of ABC’s Sunday news program, This Week with George Stephanopoulos (2002–10, 2012– ). Prior to joining ABC, Stephanopoulos served as a senior aide (1993–96) to U.S. Pres. Bill Clinton.

The partisan Stephanopoulos, with his unreported donations to the Clinton Foundation, and his degrees in political science and theology, is not a reporter any more than Sean Hannity is a reporter.

When commenting on legal issues, he cannot speak with the expertise of Alan Dershowitz.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Dershowitz

Alan Morton Dershowitz, (born September 1, 1938) is an American lawyer and academic. He is a scholar of United States constitutional law and criminal law, and a noted civil libertarian. He spent most of his career at Harvard Law School where in 1967, at the age of 28, he became the youngest full professor of law in its history. He held the Felix Frankfurter professorship there from 1993 until his retirement in December 2013.

[...]

As a criminal appellate lawyer, he won 13 of the 15 murder and attempted murder cases he handled....

[...]

He [] said his teachers told him to do something that "requires a big mouth and no brain ... so I became a lawyer". After graduating from high school, he attended Brooklyn College and received his A.B. in 1959, majoring in Political Science. Next, he attended Yale Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal, and graduated first in his class with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in 1962.

[...]

Dershowitz has said he is a member of the Democratic Party. However, in 2016, he stated that he would cancel his party membership if Keith Ellison was appointed party chair; Tom Perez was appointed instead. Dershowitz endorsed Hillary Clinton in the 2008 presidential election, and later endorsed the party nominee, Barack Obama.

Alan Dershowitz is a renowned legal authority. George Stephanopoulos is a renowned political hack, without a law degree. Stephanopoulous is a commentator, not a reporter.

And you can still make no attempt to state what the nebulous cited "felonies" were.

So what?

Stephanopoulos is a talking head, he reads the news...he doesn't do anything else.

Dershowitz was offering his opinion. You seem to think his opinion is important. - bully for you!!!

It's just his opinion - and you know what they say about opinions, right barrister??

And you can still make no attempt to state what the nebulous cited "felonies" were.

Hehhehheh - funny - I posted an article. I didn't write it.

You know the difference...so give it a rest.

On the other hand, I feel no obligation to reply to anything you have to say anyway.

I do so because I like you, and I'm guessing you enjoy throwing your weight around, being an attorney and all..

as for the felonies....I'm guessing that the DOJ will supply you with all that detail shortly.

Just be sure to keep your subscription to the NYT - it will hopefully be on the front page soon.

New subject.....

Do you think Dip-Shit Jr. will take the fall for the lies he spewed in his congressional testimony? Or will he flip too?? - serious question!
