Title: Over a Dozen Cops Swarm, Arrest Tiny Girl For Sitting Incorrectly on the Subway

Los Angeles, CA — Dramatic footage has just been released showing 18-year-old Bethany Nava, a West Hollywood resident, getting arrested for having her foot on the subway seat in front of her. According to the Facebook live video, Nava was riding the Red Line Metrorail when the confrontation with police occurred.

An unnamed LAPD officer, a sergeant, had reportedly asked Nava to remove her foot from an adjoining seat but she didn’t immediately comply. “It doesn’t matter. You’re getting off the train right now. I already told you what to do but you disobeyed me,” he told her in a normal voice. He then ordered her to stand up and told her she would be getting off the train at the next stop. “I paid to be on the train, asshole!” Nava told the officer as he laid his hands on her and pushed her off the train.

”I’m 18. He’s taking me off the train for having my foot on the fucking seat,” she told the person recording. The officer whose badge number is 5203, was then surrounded by concerned citizens who accused him of abusing his badge and being on a power trip.

”You’re a fucking scumbag,” said Selena Lechuga, a concerned citizen who came to Nara’s defense and calling into question the officer’s actions in forcing the teenager off the train. “You’re impeding my investigation. Back away,” he told Lechuga.

During the altercation, Nara attempted to flex her rights when the sergeant asked her for her ID. “I was on my way to the DMV. I have to meet my mother to get my ID. Cause I just turned 18. This is not fucking fair that you took me off the train because I had my foot there because I was comfortable like that. There is no law that tells me that I cannot sit that way because I PAID TO BE IN THERE!” Nara screamed. “It’s the rules of the train,” the officer stated.

“What’s the fucking rules of the train,” she asked. Both Nara and Lechuga asked the officer to provide the rules of the train for them to read. “I don’t have any fucking ID I was about to go to the DMV to get it…I should not be going to jail right now!” she exclaimed.

“I don’t have any form of ID. I don’t have any drugs. I don’t have anything that you can arrest me for! My foot was on a chair…what kind of fucking conflicts do you have that you need to take me off the train that I paid for,” she asked. “Nobody was trying to sit in the chair.”

Soon after, backup officers arrived. Instead of questioning the validity of the arrest, they promptly placed the two ladies in handcuffs and carted them off to jail.

According to CBS News LA, both women were cited for disorderly conduct on the train. However, that charge is now being called into question. One could argue the entire incident was started when the police officer escalated the conflict by demanding Nara forfeit her fare and leave the train. It was then and only then when tempers began to flare and choice words were used.

While the officer appeared to just be doing his job, how he handled it will likely be seen as professional by supporters of law enforcement, and abusive by freedom loving citizens. Perusing through YouTube one can find a myriad of videos where citizens claim to have been harassed while riding the Metro.

It’s unclear exactly how Nara was sitting which prompted the officer to remove her from the train, but de-escalation techniques could have been implemented. The entire incident may serve to illustrate just how easy it is to become a criminal in LA. Sitting on the seat incorrectly can now get you arrested.

Despite the occasional earthquakes, Ecuador is a pretty nice country overall. I'd consider it as the #3 country in the region after Argentina and Brazil. But it also lacks some of the serious structural problems of those other two countries.

Nava told the officer as he laid his hands on her and pushed her off the train.

Unless the train was still moving, fuck her.

I have no doubt about that.

I'm not so sure about Brazil.

The worst are Haiti, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Well, now Venezuela. Who knows what goes on in Cuba.

If there were "rules" (and not laws) against putting feet up on seats, the cop could have handled it in a much more amicable and friendly way, such as asking nicely and pointing out the health reason for it. But for too many cops, getting belligerent and physical with arrests is the only way to get messages across.

He did start off nicely. Then the dreamer got all mouthy. Her bad attitude caused the whole incident. If she had complied she would have been fine. Probably thrown off at worse, free to get on the next one.

Excellent news. That spoiled bitch had no right to put her shoes up on a seat where someone else would be sitting. Who knows how much feces, blood, and urine those shoes walked through before being placed on the seat cushion?

Little girl, the world does NOT revolve around you. There are other people here who you must share it with.

It is reasonable for the cops to "swarm" like that at the end. When you have troublemakers resisting and causing problems they bring in a bunch of people to keep the situation under control.

I freely admit when I'm wrong. It's a greater error to refuse to admit one was wrong than to be wrong in the first place, which is something most people don't understand.

But I am absolutely right when I disengage from attempts to discuss things when no discussion is taking place. I have better things to do with my time.

I'll say this much: I only watched the beginning few minutes, until just after the cop called for backup and it seemed to just be arguing at that point.

If anyone spit on the cop, that's wrong. It's wrong any time anyone does it to anyone else, cop or no cop.

And if there is indeed a law against having feet up on a seat, fine.

But here's my point: Good policing does not consist of going around busting everyone for every last infraction that's on the books. Anyone who disagrees should have no problem with getting a traffic citation for failing to signal for a lane change. There are a couple people on this site who's model law enforcement officer is none other than Inspector Javert, the antagonist in Les Miserables, who had no problem with a man being placed in jail for 5 years for stealing bread, because "the law is the law". Never any room for consideration of basic human needs, or more broadly, basic humanity.

Now there are 2 ways a cop could approach someone like this girl who had her feet up on a seat. One is the brute force "Inspector Javert" way we see in the video (though we don't see how it began so maybe the girl was first to get bitchy).

The second way is, given she wasn't a mugger or threatening to shoot anyone who looked at her funny, to approach her in a much more positive, light hearted manner informing her of the reason it's not good for others to sit like that, engaging her in a much more friendly manner.

The first way certainly sends a message, but it creates animosity and is bad PR, not just between the arrested girl and the police, but everyone who witnessed any part of it. The second way actually has a better chance of educating in a positive manner and actually changing behavior when cops are not around.

And in my view, that is just so much better. No arrests. No court cases. No lawyers involved... no one getting spit on.... what's not to like?

This guy understands it:

There can be no question about that, but one stereotype doesn't justify another.

Watch the rest of it. She starts throwing "F Bombs" and a crowd starts gathering. One guy with a serious lisp is always circling around behind the lone cop trying to talk him into letting her go,and she is struggling and trying to get away. While this is going on,another larger (ok,fat) Hispanic woman approaches the cop and SHE starts throwing F bombs and screaming "racism".

Meanwhile the cop hasn't harmed anyone, and is surrounded down in a subway. So he calls for backup, which he would have had to have done anyhow because he can only search a female suspect in an emergency, and because he now has TWO,and maybe three or more people interfering with a legal arrest, which is a crime in itself.

What would YOU do,risk facing an angry and racist brown crowd in LA by yourself,or would you call for backup before it got out of hand, too? Also, you might want to read the comments section and all the replies that say the cop should have been killed.

At that point, it's too late so no need to watch more. By that time, the cop already approached the offending girl in the manner he chose and hostilities are already on the burner. Of course things will get worse after that.

What I'm talking about is approaching differently, diplomatically, and positively so things don't reach this irreversible level of hostility. Again, this is not a case where the girl was threatening to shoot anyone or otherwise disturbing anyone else on the train.

The cops in the 2 vids I posted do it right. It's the mindset of the cops when they FIRST approach an infractor that makes the difference.

Apparently, a lot of bystanders who probably use the subway frequently sided with the girl against the cop. That's generally a sign that the girl's sitting habits were acceptable norms on this subway...

OR...maybe this was an opportunist's way of sticking it to The Man.

I don't think we're getting a neutral or fair way of reporting this incident. Not that it matters. Frankly, this is an example of petty BS reporting designed to create frothy emotions, divisions, and hate. "News" stories like this are a penny a dozen.

Selena Lechuga (reported as a so-called "concerned citizen who came to Nara’s defense" TO LE Officer: ”You’re a fucking scumbag.”

Nice audition. Real nice language. In a public place. What a heroine. NOT. She's a self-entitled, selfish obnoxious twit. That much is obvious.

Oh...and the "children" of Illegal Invaders? What harm can they do to a nation?

ZERO sympathy from me. Conveniently, we missed what transpired BEFORE the usual baiting of the LEOs from people ever ready to make cops and others look villainous with select video.

I am sick of contrived outrages over petty ante BS. AND stories that constantly make LE look like villains over stupid stuff on video when its these cretins are who have turned society into one yuge festering boil.

Thanks to cellphone video, yes. It's certainly a new dynamic in society where cops are nowadays perhaps 90% likely to be video recorded during any interaction with anyone. At least in the densely populated cities. And that's not even considering body cams.

It's all the more reason for cops to return to their "human" status of times long past, and more emphasis being placed on the humanity of the people they interact with, and less emphasis placed on "the law is the law" brute force type mentality.

I don't think there is disagreement on either side about the benefits of good relations between cops and the public, and the need for it. Good PR is valuable for both, and the video recording of cops now plays into that. And what a god-awful video of the simon-says shooting was a good example of how to ruin police PR.

Police videos are now a permanent part of the police PR dynamic.

Your “point”? You have no point.

Things were getting out of hand on the trains. Passengers were complaining about it. LAPD had to take cops from their normal duties and assign them to the trains to correct the situation. The police sergeant was only performing the duty he as assigned to do and no doubt had much rather been doing other things. There is no indication the sergeant would have busted the girl except for her stupid and grossly wrong reaction to his lawful order.

Again; You have no point….quit groveling.

There are many who will say that you have this all backwards....I am one of those.

While your parents and grandparents were growing up, they never would have even thought to disrespect the authority of law enforcement and show a total disregard for laws. But things have somehow changed now and we find ourselves living in a world where sayings such as “fuck the police” and “they’re all pigs” are an everyday common occurrence in the realm of our modern day society. Which brings me to a questions, have cops changed or have people changed?

I find the answer to this question to be a simple one....in that for reason, or reasons, unknown the current generation has lost all respect for any authority in general. This is easy to recognize because we see the “modern day” generation talking back to their parents. And they think rules don’t apply to them as they are entitled to everything. They believe they have the right to obey and disobey laws of their choosing. With that mindset, it is only natural for those misguided individuals to hate anyone who is enforcing laws and someone who “gets them in trouble” for their wrongful actions. But this needs to change and it needs to change....now.

And the point I was making about all the "kill the cop" posts were this was in LA,the cop was a white American, and "kill whitey/the pig" is typical of the low-life savages that live there and think the world owes them a living. Do you understand the basic concept of rule of law?

I wouldn't expect that kook gets your point. He probably suffers from borderline anarchy disorder... also known as BAD.

He's not a kook. I just disagree strongly with how he saw the arrest.

There is obviously more to the story as there often is. Apparently, problems in general with the subway got so bad they sent in LAPD to help the sheriff's department do their job in dealing with mass transit problems on trains and buses. That alone tells us there is a lot of abuse, a lot of shitbirds making the subways miserable for the paying public.

Given those competing jurisdictional issues, we know something fairly bad was going on with these subways, hurting ridership overall or making the public very unhappy. And you need people to at least tolerate your subways if it is to be worth the huge investments and ongoing costs of any subway system. Not to mention the attempt to keep people off street vehicles, either private or buses.

Another video detail emerged that struck me. At the beginning of the video, clearly there were people being forced to stand while this girl was blocking a seat (or making people not want not want to ask her to move her feet because she had just dirtied the seat or they didn't want to confront her to demand that she move her feet). So if she was going to ignore and start fighting with a uniformed cop when he told her to put her feet down, what chance would any ordinary passenger have in getting her to move her feet so they could sit on a seat that they had paid for instead of allowing her to occupy two seats?

The idea that an LAPD sergeant hasn't completed more racial sensitivity training than most anyone could stomach is ridiculous. There was nothing wrong with his conduct though I would fault him for not immediately handcuffing her and frogmarching her off that subway car. By taking her off by dragging her, then trying to handcuff her, then backing off when surrounded by SJW passengers, he looked weak. And that is a bad example to set to predators. If a cop is going to act, he should act decisively. If he had cuffed her sooner, he would have had fewer problems, maybe the SJWs would have dispersed. But they were encouraged when he started to cuff her and then stopped until the backup arrived.

Of course, this hindsight stuff is chickenshit and we don't know all that the cop was seeing or what his concerns were with the SJW bystanders. Or maybe he just wanted the backup so he could also arrest the fat mouthy bitch as well.     : )
