Health/Medical Title: Legalizing marijuana sends a dangerous message to kids One day during my youthfulness, I was engaging in a joint that I had bought, and suddenly I experienced side effects that werent normal. It was obviously laced with something that sent me on a trip that scared me to death. During this event, I asked Jesus to help me and promised to never smoke weed again. He did help me and I never smoked weed again. Now, Ive had my trials and joys in my life just like everyone else and times where Ive soared and others that were devastating, but throughout these experiences, I did not turn to marijuana to help or comfort me; I turned to Christ, the One who rescued me. A few weeks back, there was the election where several pot supporters came out with their No on 1 signs passionately defending marijuana. They were riding bikes displaying their signs, and when I was turning left onto Cushman Street from Airport Way, the sign wavers were apparently smoking while they were out there, and my car and then my kids were exposed to it. We were actually getting high just from driving on a public street. This is why the argument that If alcohol is legal, then pot should be is bogus, because alcohol doesnt float through the air getting everyone else drunk. But anyway, I found it actually really sad that all these people came out fighting for a dumb drug. Do we not see how weve lost our way? A high is really so important to this many people? This drug hasnt even been properly tested beyond 14 percent THC because the federal government has not funded it since its still considered illegal to them, and were willing to risk consuming 60 percent to 90 percent THC in concentrated amounts. What purpose does pot serve that makes it this critical? Is life really so bad and stressful that all these people need to escape it? Is joy too hard to find without the need for a drug or are the past memories so intense that this is the only way to get relief? Its been my experience that real joy, real healing, and real peace comes from Jesus, not drugs. What a wonderful day it would be to see all those pot supporters holding signs for the One who created the plants instead of for the plants. Im concerned that now people are going to want to legalize more drugs. Then what, no limits on anything anymore? Our minds are blessings, and to cloud them with drugs is a tragedy. We have strayed from whats really the best high on Earth, and thats the high of life and the Creator of life. We have beating hearts and homes and cars and were even spoiled with TVs and video games and a never-ending supply of chocolate. I mean, we do not need drugs. This legalizing pot fascination is ridiculous to me, and now people even want to smoke it publicly. Imagine that scene; well look like a town of zombies. Thats a sure death sentence for our tourism industry, which we need to guard and nourish for critical financial purposes. As the pot smokers increase, so will the expenses that come with it like emergency room visits, car accidents, child neglect, and house fires. This will not make money or jobs but instead could potentially crush the community. Legalizing drugs sends a dangerous message to children that they are a safe and acceptable substance to use, and thats absolutely not true. We are training the next generation to turn to drugs instead of solving their problems through faith or counseling and that joy is found in a high instead of the good thats already around them. I believe weve made a huge mistake, and now we will suffer those consequences. At first I was thinking it was good for medical purposes, but its just turned into a mess. According to Colorados experiences, we can expect more pot shops than fast food establishments. Ugh. What have we done.
