As of mid-afternoon on Monday, its already a cinch you wont watch anything more enjoyable online this week than this.
Remember this post from Friday night? Words cant capture how funny itll be if the open-borders left muscles Schumer and Pelosi into walking away from a DREAM deal with Trump standing by, ready and willing to sell out. Seeing Pelosi squirm face to face with the radical amnesty shills Democrats have created is but a simple pleasure. The deeper pleasure is knowing that if you dislike the idea of a DREAM compromise in which DACA enrollees get citizenship and border hawks get a few border security upgrades plus some magic beans, these shrieking idiots might be your best friends right now. Theres not much the right can do to stop Trump given how loyal Republicans are to him. There *are* things the left can do to stop Schumer and Pelosi.
You called this press conference in our name to defend the so-called Dream Act, but you already traded in our parents in our name, the crowd chanted among a series of other accusations
We demand a clean bill that protects immigrant youth without hurting our families, the protesters chanted.
They accused Mrs. Pelosi and her fellow Democrats of giving into Mr. Trumps deportation machine and accused her of using Dreamers as a bargaining chip.
Actually, its the GOP thats using DREAMers as a bargaining chip. Theyll trade amnesty for border security, which is Pelosis bargaining chip. Thats one of the great travesties of Americas modern immigration debate: Securing the border is a partisan concession for Democrats, to be made only in exchange for legalizing lawbreaking.
Still, the DREAMers arent being wholly irrational here. Its *mostly* irrational not to lock down a statutory amnesty when you have a border hawk in the White House who could tear up DACA at any time and start deporting DREAMers en masse. If hes willing to give up that power, take him up on it! He might even get enough good press from doing a deal that hell take an interest in a broader comprehensive plan to legalize most of the result of Americas illegal population. When your partys out of the White House, in the minority in both houses of Congress, and staring at a near impossible map in the Senate next year, you take what you can get now. But theres also a chance that doing an amnesty for DREAMers and no one else will exhaust Republicans appetite for immigration deals for the next decade or more. If your paramount goal is legalizing all illegals, not just the most sympathetic ones, arguably the DREAMers here are right that Schumer and Pelosi should hold out and see if they can get Trump to bite on an all-or-nothing comprehensive deal. Clearly he wants to legalize DREAMers and avoid the bad press that would come from deporting them. Democrats are giving up their leverage over a national amnesty by agreeing to one for DREAMers alone.
Or is that not the goal at all? I get the sense listening to these people that even if Schumer and Pelosi negotiated an amnesty for all 11 million illegals with Trump, theyd be out there screaming if the deal involved major enforcement upgrades like E-Verify, the RAISE Act, and the wall. Amnesty isnt really the paramount objective; continued amnesties, i.e. open borders, is. Nothing except a unilateral amnesty without security improvements might do. Thatll be a fun task on the next Democratic presidents to-do list.

Heck, Trump just has to fiddle while the clowns seek to outdo one another at demonstrating idiocy. They will wake up on day and realize that DACA is as dead as DAPA, and the DREAM Act never was. And Trump can say it is all the fault of a Congress that can't get anything done.

This memorandum rescinds the June 15, 2012 memorandum entitled Exercising Prosecutorial Discretion with Respect to Individuals Who Came to the United States as Children, which established the program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). And Trump can say it is all the fault of a Congress that can't get anything done.
Pelosi got crapped on by her own constituents over DACA. They want amnesty for ALL illegals and will settle for nothing less.
I literally cannot imagine what the bill would have to look like to get enough votes to pass. The Dream Act languished in Congress for 10 years because of that. This will, too.
This is the Democrat's wet dream. It "would allow permanent residence and a path to citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants if they came to this country as children, get a high school degree or GED, pass a background check and English proficiency test, and have no criminal record".
The Republican version was introduced in the House as H.R. 1468 with 30 cosponsors, all Republicans. "Children of undocumented immigrants who pursue higher education, military service, or work authorization would be allowed to apply for five-year conditional status followed by the ability to re-apply for a five-year permanent status. It also allows the government to deport or remove the legal status of anybody on the program if they dont stay employed or stay in school."
First there was DACA, then they tried DAPA, and then they tried RACA. I love the names they come up with for this stuff. And why are all applicable "America's Children" somehow illegal aliens, citizens of some other country, illegally present in the United States of America?
Naturalization is the pathway to citizenship for aliens, lawfully present in the United States.Illegal aliens are unlawfully present and, if they stayed for 100 years, would still be unlawfully present, and would forever remain with no path to citizenship under current law.
Any grant of legal status in the country will act as a path to citizenship by removing the disqualifying factor. Making believe it is not a pathway to citizenship by not saying it is, or saying the legal status is conditional or temporary, is just making believe. Naturalization requires the alien to be lawfully present, it does not require permanent status or a green card.
As you observe, no majority could be found to vote for this crap. For many, it would be a case of suicide come election day.
What a "successful" bill needs to do is make the people believe a grant of lawful status is not a grant of a pathway to citizenship. Nothing short of a grant of legal status will be acceptable to the illegal aliens and their supporters.
Any grant of legal status in the country will act as a path to citizenship by removing the disqualifying factor.
True. They'll tell us all about that later. After the bill passes and they're out of office.
But an even bigger probem is the children of the Dreamers. Since they arrived, 25% of the 800,000 Dreamers have children born here. While we're dickin' around trying to figure out what to do with the Dreamers, they're popping out 200,000 (and counting) children who are automatically U.S. citizens.
We need a 14th amendment challenge to stop this takeover of our country. That would have a far larger impact on illegals.

They can deport the parents. The parents can take the children with them, if they choose.
A 14th Amdt fix could deny citizenship to a baby of an illegal alien.
The census could be reformed to exclude illegal aliens.
Representation in Congress could be limited to a head count of citizens, not a head count of all humans. It would take away an incentive to import aliens. Some small states get less representatives total than California gets on the basis of its illegal alien population. American citizens in Puerto Rico get no voting representative in Congress; illegal aliens in California do.
