Title: How The Alt-Right Won The Battle Over Charlottesville

The alt-right is a movement of people united by the common premise that white people deserve an identity politics of their own, and that Western civilization is inherently tied with white ethnicity. They’re not a major movement; they’re a fringe group. They’re extraordinarily loud on social media; they abuse their enemies, worship their perceived friends, and generate the feeling that they are far more of a powerful force than they actually are.

Over the weekend, they went to Charlottesville for the same reason they’ve gone to cities around the country: to gain attention. More specifically, they had three goals in mind. First, the alt-right wanted to grow its ranks by creating a perception of size and influence far beyond its actual numbers; second, the alt-right wanted to grow its ranks by squaring off against Antifa, far left violent agitators correctly perceived as threats to law and order — and they wanted to fight back victoriously against that group; third, the alt-right wanted to create the public perception that they aren’t just a group of muddle-headed white supremacists, but decent people who care about the future of Western civilization and stand up against criminality. In short, the alt-right sought to craft a perception of size, a perception of strength, and a perception of decency.

Now, the truth is that the alt-right has none of these three. They’re small, they’re not particularly strong, and they’re certainly not decent. But thanks to the media, the Left, and the president, they achieved all three of those goals.

Perception of Size. The alt-right showed up with several hundred allies ranging from open neo-Nazis to open white supremacists to their Friday night torchlight march. The media dutifully covered the event, seeking to heighten the impression of threat to the country from the Right — a narrative they’ve been promulgating for years, as they attempt to push the notion that the broader Right supports neo-Nazism and white supremacism. The following day, hundreds of protesters and counter-protesters gathered, amidst a bevy of media. Every newspaper front page in the country featured a close-up photo of the protesters, increasing the perception of numbers.

Perception of Strength. A huge portion of the alt-right’s appeal comes from their overtly militant language: their opponents are weaklings, cucks, sham men empty at their cores. They, however, are Nietzschean super-figures, the lords of creation, Viking warriors in pursuit of battle against the aggressors. Antifa helps the alt-right with this perception by attacking the alt-right, allowing the alt-right to use violence. Even the horrific car attack was perceived by Christopher Cantwell, a white supremacist speaker at the #UniteTheRight rally, as a victory: “We showed our rivals that we won’t be cowed. … I think it was more than justified. The amount of restraint that our people showed out there I think was astounding.” Cantwell vowed, “It’ll be really tough to top [Charlottesville]. We’re up to the challenge. … A lot more people are going to die here.”

Perception of Decency. Antifa helps the perception that the alt-right is merely a reactionary force, rather than a white supremacist group. The Right reacts to the Left’s defense of Antifa by pooh-poohing the alt-right. But they can’t completely dismiss the evil of the alt-right so long as alt-right is publicized as a white supremacist philosophy; that’s why the alt-right needs people who will help them distinguish themselves from the white supremacists and neo-Nazis with whom they march and fellow travel. That’s where President Trump came in, pretending not to know what the alt-right was, and then stating that some “very fine people” attended the #UniteTheRight tiki torch march.

The alt-right has successfully increased its visibility, its generalized perceptions of size, strength and decency. That’s a win for them. And people across the political spectrum bear responsibility for their continued growth.

A good description that Shapiro must have gotten from looking in the mirror. He's a cuck, who thinks that bending over and grabbing his ankles is winning!

He still hasn't got over Jeb!'s poor showing in the election.

Ewww...it's too early in the day to picture that.

Anyway, I liked the counter-narrative here, that Trump is winning the battle for Charlottesburg because the Left and the D.C. establishment is vastly overplaying its hand. Shapiro gets booted and booed off college campuses just like Steyn or Milo do so he is aware of just how hostile and organized the campus Left is.

My reaction to Charlottesville?

I figure I should give it, because what I have to say gets so many of y'all mad and pumps up your blood pressure to vein-bursting levels.

So here goes:

The KKK and the Nazis! Have probably 10 REAL members in the USA. The rest are government agents using the hype about these things for budgetary purposes and press recognition. Real KKK are retards who should be beaten. Real Nazis mostly died in Germany in 1945, and they were our enemy.

Blacks, Jews and Hispanics have created tremendous political power in the USA through racial and ethnic identity politics. At a certain point in history, most whites understood this and let it be, because Blacks in particular had a legitimate grievance with the United States for reason of history. The Hispanics had, and have, very legitimate basis for a grievance, and to the extent they do it is primarily confined to their home countries, not here. And Jews have no legitimate grievances at all against the United States. Never in the history of the USA as a nation have Jews been formally legally discriminated against. Catholics have been treated a lot worse in America than Jews ever were. The Old World grievances of Jews are legitimate - Europeans treated them like shit. Americans NEVER did, NOT EVER, so Jews have zero legitimate grievance against American people or American society. The state of Israel EXISTS because of the military and political aid of the United States and a permanent financial subsidy, and the fact that any European Jews survived World War II is because the Americans broke the Third Reich, in part by directly invading it, and in part by keeping the British and the Soviets alive in the war through massive transfer payments and equipment. Without the United States, England would have been conquered in 1941, and the Soviet Union would have been conquered in 1941-1942. The Third Reich was ultimately defeated by the United States. The Jews were saved by the United States, not oppressed by us. Jews have no legitimate complaints against America, have no history of mistreatment by the United States, and should be ridiculed when they start trying to sell their "woe is me, I'm an oppressed race!" schtick here. It's an utter falsehood.

The Blacks deserve the sort of sympathy that the Jews claim for themselves. Nazis were never a threat to the United States. They never had any real appeal here. Americans love freedom too much. The KKK WAS real, and the Blacks really WERE treated horribly, right up to the early 1960s. They have a legitimate beef - within reason. The Jews have no legitimate complaint about America, and nobody should give them any consideration when they go down that road. They should be shouted down, shut down and ridiculed as whining privileged cunts when they start their crap here. They are ALIVE because of Americans - we SAVED them. They owe us gratitude, not attitude.

The Civil War ended in 1865. Robert E. Lee was a noble figure whose attitude about making the peace stick is one of the reasons it did. He fought as he saw his duty required, his side was overwhelmed, and he made peace. He's a good role model for American maledom under pressure. His statues should not be taken down.

Lee, Jackson, Longstreet, the Confederate foot soldier - they don't deserve to be treated as though they were the cause of American racism. They were not. The NORTH enforced the Fugitive Slave Laws and permitted slavery as acceptable in part of America every bit as much as the South during those long years leading up to the war. Lincoln was right when he said that both the South AND the North deserved the scourge of civil war for their complicit cooperation in American - not just Southern - slavery.

But the history doesn't really matter. These protests and counter-protests NOW are purely about POWER, not the Confederacy, or the Klan, or Robert E. Lee. Nothing in American politics ever was motivated by the swastika - other than the organized desire to smash it. Those are just shibboleths being thrown out there by the alt-Left for political reasons.

The alt-Left is organized, paid, militant and violent. They deserve the same harsh legal and physical treatment as right wing yahoos who start fights.

Trump was RIGHT - there ARE plenty of good people on both sides of the issue of taking down monuments. But armed mobs of leftists and any white guy with a swastika tattooed on his body are not good people. They're violent yobs who need to be beaten down with truncheons, tear-gassed, tased, fire hosed, dog-chewed and, ultimately, shot - the lot of them.

If elected local governments decide to take down Confederate symbols because the democratic process decides to do so, then so be it. If they decide not to, then so be it. This is a matter for local people to decide.

That mobs of armed and violent leftists and national political efforts - all really aimed at Trump - descend on places and tear them up: tear gas them.

Ditto for all 10 KKK members and all 10 American Nazis.

That the KKK and Nazi ranks are swollen by government agents conducting "investigations" is a disgrace that should be ended. Government agents should not be out there marching, destroying property, PRETENDING to be Klansmen and Nazis so they can track the 20 or so retarded REAL Klansmen or Nazis in America.

The whole Klan-and-Nazis versus "concerned citizens" who are really left wing paid protestors and professional agitators meme - the whole thing - is all an orchestrated fiction.

What is the solution? There is none that is any good. The country is divided, and the two sides hate each other.

My own hope is that the Alt-Left is seen for what it is, and Americans get tired of the endless efforts at manipulating them by the Left in this regard.

I didn't hear him say that. I replayed the video a number of times and Trump didn't say that.

He DID say some very fine people attended the protest, in general.

Ann Coulter is similarly fighting the old commie Left in academia where she is directly engaged as a persecuted speaker, yet she loved Trump's reaction.

So maybe that's not it.

I think that is the angle Bannon is stressing: it will backfire on the Left.

Most recent poll shows Trump went from 75% GOP support to around 82%. This was a day ago so it may change some. But so far, Bannon seems correct about the politics of Charlottesburg.

For some reason, they don't react as much to her bombast as they do to Milo or to rather mild-mannered Shapiro.

I think they do see Shapiro, a Harvard law grad, as a more serious intellectual threat over the long term.

Most any time a movement gets attention, it's a win for that movement. Even if it's bad press, people think, talk and form an opinion about it, which invariably gives the movement traction.

That the Charlottesville event has garnered lots of attention nationwide, even if polarizing, means both sides get something good out of it.

It makes a difference. My understanding was that only the hard-core right was involved in that Friday night tiki torch march. So if Trump said some of them were very fine people, that has a whole different meaning.

From what I saw, it was a mix. Some actual white supremacy (Nazi/KKK) types were a minority in the mob, some others of the League of the South type, a few fellow-travelers tossed in.

I see you located a pic with Geraldo and Shep's butt boy/producer. In previous puff pieces, they've published more flattering photos of Shep's boy toy. Shep is 49 or 50, his man-mistress is around 26 and about 6'2". So we have an idea of who is wearing the pants in that relationship. It ain't Shep.

Shepard Smith Tells Waitress: “Get My Fucking Drink!”

Shepard Smith, the new director of Fox News’ breaking news operation, is by far the channel’s most lovable anchor—a cuddly-if-irascible antidote to his demagoguing colleagues. Like most people on television, however, he’s a lot less nice in person. Especially to waitresses.

One night last March, at a Chelsea speakeasy called Bathtub Gin, Smith and a group of friends were downing cocktails when the 49-year-old anchor, his drink half empty, noticed their waitress attending another table.

He wanted the next round now.

“He got up from his table, grabbed my elbow, and started yelling,” the waitress, a 30-year-old woman named Katya Minskova, told Gawker. Smith continued berating her: “Where the fuck is my drink! Where is my fucking drink! Get my fucking drink!

(Smith prefers a special off-menu concoction of gin, muddled cucumber, and shaved ice when he patronizes Bathtub Gin. In fact, he never orders anything printed on the speakeasy’s menu.)

“He started smacking his hands, like the back of his right hand into the palm of his left,” Minskova said. “He was spitting. His veins were popping out.”

Smith had arrived earlier that night with a straight couple and his own regular date, a muscular 6-foot-2 30-something white male, whom Bathtub Gin employees refer to as “his boyfriend.” Like most other nights—Smith frequents the bar, located behind a coffee shop on 9th Avenue, about once a week—the anchor’s attention fell on his date. According to Minskova and one other source, who have seen Smith and his date drink there on multiple occasions, the couple frequently holds hands and rests them in each others’ laps under the table. Nobody we spoke with, including several Fox insiders, knew the name of Smith's date.

“There was no reason for you to scream at me,” Minskova told Smith.

“Yes, there was. You’re fucking slow. I told you I wanted a second round.”

Smith continued: “Why don’t you take my order right now?”

Minskova tried explaining that the bartender was still mixing the second round, but Smith, visibly angry, told her to cancel it and asked for the check, a duty she passed to another waitress before telling the speakeasy’s manager what had happened.

“I’ve dealt with assholes and drunks before,” said Minskova, who has worked in the service industry for several years. “But nothing like this.”

Smith and his entourage left without leaving a tip, and without apologizing. Minskova wound up quitting a few months later.

It wouldn’t be Smith’s first public demonstration of rage. In 2000, while covering the Florida recount, he was arrested by Tallahassee police for “aggravated battery” against a female reporter, after he reportedly slammed his car into her standing body. (Here is his mugshot.) The charge was dismissed after Smith and his victim agreed to an out-of-court settlement.

Neither Shepard Smith nor Fox News Channel responded to emails, a voicemail, and a faxed letter requesting comment. The owner of Bathtub Gin did not respond to requests for comment, either.

As for Gerry Rivers, he never had the guts for real sodomy to begin with.

And extremely well represented in the media and educational system. It is systematically raising our own children to be our enemy.
