The Holy Father is “enraged,” since the home, inhabited by Francesco Cardinal Coccopalmerio’s secretary, belongs to the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith — the arm charged with tackling clerical sex abuse, the Italian paper Il Fatto Quotidiano reported. Cops raided the apartment in late June after neighbors voiced concern about multiple people acting strangely while streaming in and out of the residence, the newspaper reported Wednesday. Once police were inside the apartment, they said they found multiple men engaged in rampant drug use and homosexual activity. They then arrested the priest — an aide to one of Pope Francis’ key advisers — after taking him to a clinic to detox from the drugs he’d ingested. The unnamed aide is now on a spiritual retreat in a convent in Italy, the paper said. The aide’s apartment building is the same place where Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger lived for about 25 years before becoming Pope Benedict XVI. Fatto Quotidiano described the building as “a perfect location to enjoy the extraterritorial rights [of the Vatican] without having to undergo neither the checks of the Italian State nor those of the Vatican City.” Pope Francis “has decided to accelerate the retirement” of Coccopalmerio, who serves as president of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, the paper said. Coccopalmerio had recommended the secretary for a promotion to bishop — but his prospects aren’t looking good following this incident and two previous alleged drug overdoses, according to an International Business Times report. “He had proposed his secretary to the episcopate. Fortune that they have not appointed him bishop. Now what would happen?” Il Fatto Quotidiano said. “Someone stopped this appointment before it was too late.” The scandal comes just a week after the Vatican was rocked by sex-abuse allegations against high-ranking church official George Cardinal Pell. Pell was charged with multiple counts of historical sexual assault offenses by Australian police. The cardinal, who served as Pope Francis’ chief financial adviser and is Australia’s most senior Catholic, is the highest-ranking Vatican official ever to be charged in the church’s sexual- abuse scandals. Although I do still suspect that the Vatican cop that gave the go-ahead for the raid will end up paying a price for his devotion to duty. I would guess that rival cardinal(s) or Pope Frank himself was behind this little raid. There will be some housecleaning at the Vatican. Not that they care much about drug orgies by low-level clerics or their boy-brothel that has existed for centuries in this same area of town. They just want some inconvenient members of the hierarchy out of the way.

Keep this in perspective. The Church is a human institution embodying all that is human -- greatness and folly. It is an inseparable element of Western Civilization. When the Roman Empire rotted from within it was the Church that carried literacy to the unlettered Germanic tribes of Europe. In modern times it has been a great sea anchor against the tide of a resurgent Sodom and Gomorrah. I am a subsidiaritist, but also recognize that there is a need for some central organization to form a structure of communication and adjudication for the distributed subsidiaries, which in turn check the power of the central administration. The effects of this process will reveal human foibles, as it must to remain viable for its mission. A foible is not just an idiosyncrasy, it is also defined as the weaker part of the sword's blade.

The records show clerical debauchery that has waxed and waned over many centuries. July 11, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) -- The Vatican under Pope Francis has been completely silent after news recently broke of a high-ranking monsignor who was arrested some two months ago in the act of hosting a cocaine-fueled homosexual orgy in a building right next to St. Peter’s Basilica. St. Peter Damian wrote his Book of Gomorrah to Pope Leo IX in 1049 at a time when homosexuality and sexual perversion within the clergy were likely more rampant than it is today. Damien showed no false mercy or compromise in condemning sodomy, what he believed to be the gravest of all sins. “If this absolutely ignominious and abominable vice is not immediately stopped with an iron fist, ” he told the Pope, “the sword of Divine wrath will fall upon us, bringing ruin to many.” Damian warned the Pope that the “cancer of sodomitic impurity is creeping through the clerical order,” decrying the sexual abuse of “spiritual sons” by Catholic priests.
