- D.C. Police say a tip reported to authorities in Pennsylvania led them to arrest a man staying at the Trump International Hotel in Washington on weapons and ammunition charges.

43-year-old Bryan Moles of Edinboro, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody at the hotel around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

At a news conference, D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said that they were alerted by Pennsylvania State Police around 12:30 a.m. that Moles was traveling to the District, possibly to the Trump Hotel in downtown D.C., and was armed with weapons.

Police officers and Secret Service agents quickly responded and located Moles’ vehicle in the hotel’s garage. An explosive scan of the car turned up negative but Newsham said they did find an AR15 assault rifle and a 40 caliber handgun inside the vehicle.

Moles had checked into the hotel around 1 a.m. and was located by investigators who arrested him and charged him with carrying a pistol without a license and possession of unregistered ammunition.

Newsham added that the department does not presently have enough evidence to charge Moles with making threats. He said he was not able to provide reporters information as to what the original tip was that led to the initial investigation.

Newsham thanked officers for bringing what he called a “potentially tragic situation” to an end and also thanked the tipster who originally alerted Pennsylvania authorities. “We say it all the time. The best way to prevent a disaster is when you see something to say something. And I think this illustrates how ‘see something say something’ actually works,” Newsham said.

He said that the man’s motive for coming to the District with weapons is still unknown. He called the circumstances “very peculiar” and said that they “averted a potential disaster” by acting quickly on the tipster’s information and making the arrest.

The Associated Press reports that Moles is a physician who practices emergency medicine at a hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The Secret Service issued the following statement regarding the incident:

Early this morning, Special Agents from the Secret Service Washington Field Office and officers from the Metropolitan Police Department investigated a report of a potential threat against Secret Service protectees. The Secret Service received information from a concerned citizen and Trump International Hotel Security staff. An individual was subsequently located at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.  Agents and officers recovered a semi-automatic assault style rifle and a handgun in the individual’s vehicle.  Bryan Moles of Pennsylvania was arrested by MPD officers for illegal possession of the firearms.

At no time were any Secret Service protectees at risk.  “The Secret Service greatly appreciates its strong partnership with the Metropolitan Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, and all of our law enforcement partners. This investigation is still new and ongoing,” said Special Agent in Charge Brian Ebert, Secret Service Washington Field Office.

"UNREGISTERED AMMUNITION"??????

WTF? How do you register ammunition? Once registered,do you have to run down to the local PD to take a round off he registration after you have fired it?

Are you supposed to run down there to registeed every new round you buy?

BTW,if stopped by the police HOW are you going to be able to prove the rounds you have in your gun or your car are the same rounds you have registered?

Seems to be much ado about nothing. The guy has no police record, but that didn't stop a reporter from implying that he was a vet with PTSD, and might have made threats...

Man arrested at Trump's Washington hotel after guns found in car

By Ian Simpson | WASHINGTON

A Pennsylvania man was arrested at President Donald Trump's Washington hotel early on Wednesday after police acting on a tip found a rifle, pistol and ammunition in his car, a discovery they said "averted a potential disaster" in the U.S. capital.

Bryan Moles, 43, from the western Pennsylvania college town of Edinboro, was taken into custody shortly after checking into the Trump International Hotel a few blocks from the White House, Metropolitan Police Chief Peter Newsham told a news conference.

A tipster had told the Pennsylvania State Police that Moles was traveling to Washington with weapons, and the information was passed on to the Secret Service and Washington police, Newsham said.

Moles was arrested without incident, after an assault-style rifle, a .40-caliber pistol and 90 rounds of ammunition for the two guns were found in his vehicle, the chief said.

"I believe that the officers and our federal partners, and in particular the tipster coming forward, averted a potential disaster here in our nation's capital," Newsham said.

Asked about reports that Moles had made threatening remarks and was a U.S. military veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, Newsham said the suspect's motives were under investigation and there was not enough information to charge Moles with making threats. He also declined to "read anything into" the fact that Moles had checked into the Trump hotel.

The chief said Moles was being held on charges of carrying a handgun without a license, possession of unregistered ammunition and carrying a dangerous weapon - the latter charge stemming from the rifle found in his vehicle.

The Secret Service said in a statement it also was investigating the incident but said that no one under its protection was ever at risk.

Police spokeswoman Karimah Bilal had no information about an attorney for Moles.

Trump's hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue, housed in a landmark former U.S. Post Office pavilion, has become a focal point for protests against the Republican president since he took office in January.

Edinboro Police Chief Jeff Craft said by telephone that Moles had no criminal record in his hometown, a suburb of Erie, Pennsylvania in the northwestern corner of the state, and was not known to police.

I was the guy that sat next to you in Catholic school. I probably would be a lot smarter if I hadn't copied all of your test answers.

My guess is somebody in his family dropped a dime on him. He may really have PTSD,or he just might be a wealthy guy with an irate wife and a divorce in progress that just happened to be passing through DC to go hunting or target shooting.
