In a debate with Breitbart News, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer claimed that Republicans did get funding for a “wall,” pointing to existing photos of fences with bollard style steel construction and “levee walls.” “That is called a bollard wall,” he said to Breitbart News, pointing to photos he displayed on a screen. “That is called a levee wall.” Spicer refused to describe his fence photos as Trump’s promised wall, but assured them that it would be effective in protecting the border. He told reporters that the fencing was endorsed by DHS Secretary John Kelly. Kelly has proposed large bollard fencing to help secure the border, although he has also supported the idea of “a concrete wall” on the border. “There are places along the border, and I would offer to you, down in the southern Rio Grande valley, where a wall, a concrete wall, makes all the sense in the world,” he told Bloomberg News in April. “There are other places where a see-through wall, say a large bollard, if you will, fence, makes a lot of sense.” The House budget agreement specifically cites funding for “border fencing” and “steel bollard designs,” not a wall, after Democrats insisted that money for border security would not be used to fund Trump’s wall. On the campaign trail, Trump assured supporters that he was not building a fence, but an actual wall of hardened concrete. “It’s going to be made of hardened concrete and it’s going to be made out of rebar and steel,” Trump said to a child in Manassas, Virginia during a rally in 2015. In a January interview with Sean Hannity, President Trump mocked existing “little toy walls” on the Southern border and said “I don’t know why they even wasted their time” on building them. The barrier that's going up is a 20-foot high steel bollard wall that the DHS requested in lieu of a solid concrete wall. DHS wanted that design because it's safer for border patrol agents. Trump has $341 million to replace the existing ineffective chain link fencing and other types of fencing that currently exists. Why is the press acting confused?
A bollard wall won't work and everyone knows it. What is needed is as least a 30 foot high steel reinforced concrete wall.
Geeze … What a bunch of nit-picking assholes….always looking only for something in order to criticize unnecessarily. And you, Deckard….are always first in line. WGAF what’s it’s called or what it’s made of….as long as it does the job! Call it a barrier, partition, panel, divider, bulkhead, fortification, rampart, barricade, bulwark or anything and make it out of whatever will do the job….as long as something will be there to stop illegals from crossing the border.
A see through wall is much better because the BP and civilian observers (Minutemen, Neighborhood Watch, etc.) can see what's happening on the other side, what measures are being tried to breech the border, and stop it. It provides an opportunity for an advanced alert of pending invasion. If they notice the attempt developing, they have more response time. If you see a group of people assembling just before sunset on the other side on the Mexican border, it's a damn good bet that they're going to try to enter the US illegally. If you wait for them to get on the US side before you can spot them, you'll be lucky to find them running through the ravines, canyons, and bushes, and there may only be one or two BP that are near enough to have a shot at catching them. 5 minutes or more later when additional BP arrive, they'll be long gone. Turrets every quarter mile with 30-06 sniper rifles will work even better.
