Kellyanne Conway got more than she bargained for this morning during an appearance on the NBC TODAY Show, getting hammered by anchor Matt Lauer over several inconsistencies stemming from General Michael Flynn, the former National Security Advisor who officially resigned late Monday night.

While Conway attempted to explain away her previous comments that Flynn “had the full confidence of the President,” Lauer pointed out her timeline of the events don’t add up.

“You’re saying that was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Lauer said regarding Flynn’s intentional misleading of Vice President Mike Pence over phone calls Flynn made in December to a Russian ambassador on the day the Obama administration levied sanctions against Russia. “But the White House knew about that last month, when the Justice Department warned the White House that Flynn had not been completely honest,” he continued.

“Well that’s one characterization,” Conway meekly offered Tuesday. “But the fact is General Flynn continued in that position,” noting simply that Flynn continued to serve in the role assisting the president up until his accepted resignation yesterday.

“Kellyanne, that makes no sense!” Lauer shot back. “Last month the Justice Department warned the White House that General Flynn misled them! And that as a result he was vulnerable to blackmail and at that moment he still had the complete trust of the president?”

Conway refused to answer directly, opting to attempt to move the conversation forward instead. “[President Trump has] accepted General Flynn’s resignation, and he wishes him well, and we’re moving on,” she responded.

“But the White House knew about that last month, when the Justice Department warned the White House that Flynn had not been completely honest,” he continued."

At first, Flynn denied he talked about sanctions, then later said he didn't remember if he discussed sanctions or not.

That is what the justice department called "not being completely honest".

So Matt Lauer is saying Flynn should have been fired for that? Wow. Under that criteria, Obama should have fired half his cabinet, start with Hillary who couldn't remember shit.

He's supposed to be the NATIONAL SECURITY adviser...

If he's so absent-minded that he can't remember what he's flapping his yap about, then he deserves to be fired for incompetence...

Loose-lips sink ships...

Conway is a consistently lousy spokesperson for Trump. She just is not convincing and she doesn't think well on her feet. She has her little talking points but seems incapable of anticipating a move or two ahead.

The WH needs to grasp that every appearance will be a hostile interview. They should consider giving major network interviews completely. I think they should go for impromptu interviews by the larger regional TV stations and newspapers.

It's always a problem to bring your campaign staff into the WH and put them in key positions. And that is what Trump did in so many key positions. Plus Jared and Ivanka as generic advisers who are far more visible than, say, Valerie Jarrett or Manchelle or other close advisers in the Xlinton era. Dumbya didn't really have this problem.

Trump has an ongoing staff problem IMO. Conway needs to say a lot less. Spicer probably needs to be replaced. They need to finally fill the communications director job. Priebus seems okay but he's spread awfully thin when the others are shooting their mouths off so much and making preventable errors.
