Donald Trump said Tuesday night that he "can understand" why former President George H.W. Bush plans to vote for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in November, and said it's possible he might have decided to vote for Clinton as well if he were in Jeb Bush's shoes.

"Look, I fought his son very hard. It was a very tough battle — Jeb, and Jeb lost. He was expected to win," Trump told Time Warner News prior to a rally in North Carolina Wednesday. "He was expected to be the nominee and he lost."

"We're leading all over, and we seem to be doing very well. But I fought him and it was a very nasty contest. It was very nasty and I can understand that," Trump said. "Frankly, if I were him, maybe I'd go that direction too. Look, Jeb Bush signed a pledge. He didn't honor the pledge. They say it was a very nasty contest and it certainly was."

"But Jeb Bush didn't and I can understand how the Bush family feels," Trump added. "He was supposed to win. He was supposed to be the nominee. Not only wasn't he, he wasn't the nominee, but he didn't do very well."

The 41st president reportedly he'd vote for Clinton during a reception for the Points of Light foundation in Kennebunkport, Maine, although a spokesman claims that he did not reveal who he will vote for.

The former president has been absent from the campaign trail even though his family was on the stump for the former governor. Bush's other son, former President George W. Bush, campaigned for his brother prior to the South Carolina primary, while his mother, former first lady Barbara Bush, made multiple appearances in New Hampshire.

None of the Bushes attended the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this summer, but the 43rd president has been a constant presence in support of Senate candidates.

If Jeb had no intention of supporting the nominee he shouldn't have signed the pledge.

If the GOP thought for a moment that Trump might actually win the nomination, they shouldn't have written the pledge.

But it was written and it was signed. There needs to be consequences for those who are not honoring their pledge.

There needs to be consequences for those who are not honoring their pledge.

There are.

First, it is pointed out all over the media, so their reputation now bears the stain of being liars.

Second, if Trump wins, he will be the leader of the Republican Party, and will have no particular incentive to throw any sops at all to the Bush clan. In fact, he will have an incentive to remove all of the Bush people, to cut Bush's cronies and proteges out of the party apparatus and replace them with his own, or to vet them and cause them - for their own self-interest - to cut off the Bushes and turn to him.

The Bushes are a disgrace. Beaten by Trump and doing their best to do whatever damage they can, once Trump wins, the Bush people will be purged from positions of power in the party. They sided with scumbags, and they go down with the scumbags.

The Bushes didn't have to be this way, but they are, and if you think about it, they always have been.

The biggest losers will be the diehard Bush allies. The Bushes are very rich and will simply go on living their great lives as rich people behind fences. But their hangers-on in the Party, the Karl Roves and others like him, will never hold positions of prominence again. They will be scraped off like shit off a boot, and their positions will be filled by people who backed Trump.

The Bushs have a severe problem. None of them are capable or competent in real day to day life. They look and sound good at country clubs and similar places where they are well received bay others of their ilk. They must be propped up continually by class contacts. They are basically affable parasites. The only remaining route to proving class elegance and family worth is to acquire positions as figureheads in political high office with impressive titles. Trump sentenced Jeb to the lower classes by blocking his dancing into the presidency. For this, Trump will not be forgiven and Jeb, et al, will have temper tantrums til the day he dies. Jeb, please go out and find a real job for the first time in your life! That goes for the rest of them also.

Affable parasitism among the brainless with ill-received hereditary wealth and position has become a major industry in this nation.
