United States News Title: Clueless Cop Violates Innocent Man’s Rights After Mistaking His Son’s Chex Mix for Weed Houston, TX In a testament to the immoral lunacy surrounding the war on cannabis, a Houston man was detained and harassed by police who couldnt tell the difference between a cereal snack and a plant. The incident happened Friday afternoon as Jason Miller, communications director for the Houston chapter of NORML, was walking back to his vehicle after doing some shopping. When he returned to his SUV, which has decals that say Houston NORML and depicts the state of Texas formed out of marijuana leaves, he noticed two public servants snooping around. Deputy B.A. Collier and his partner from the Harris County Sheriffs Office accused Miller of possessing a minuscule amount of pot. I saw some shake on your floor up there, asserted Collier. Shake is a slang term for small bits of marijuana and it is often used by police to violate the rights of otherwise entirely innocent civilians such was the case in this incident. Whats shake? asked Miller. Marijuana the officer responded. I saw some pieces of marijuana on your passenger side floor board up there. According to Miller, Collier continued to drill him about marijuana. He said, you know why your vehicle drew our suspicion, right? Are you saying you profiled me because of my political views expressed on my vehicle? asked Miller. Its not about politics, he said. Its about marijuana, and people who like marijuana are most-likely marijuana users, and marijuana is an illegal substance in Texas. So Im being harassed because of my beliefs? Miller asked him. Ive had these stickers on my vehicle for over a year and have never been harassed by police until now. Having a sticker on ones car does not justify the police officers stopping and looking inside. They were clearly targeting Miller for his views. Knowing that this was going nowhere fast, Miller asked the officer, Am I free to go? Asking this question is imperative when police officers are attempting to fish for criminal activity. Whether or not an actual crime has been committed, police are trained to trick you into slipping up and admitting to a criminal act. No, the officer said, who then asked if Miller had anything illegal in the vehicle. Of course not, replied Miller. So whats that shake I saw on your floor up there? If its not marijuana, what is it? asked the officer, thinking he had uncovered some criminal masterminds plot to transport marijuana in unidentifiable amounts on passengers side floor mat. I dont know, crumbs from my lunch? Miller responded. Do you mind if we take a look inside the vehicle? Deputy Collier asked. On the Houston NORML website, Miller describes perfectly why you should never consent to police searches. When dealing with a traffic stop or other police encounter, never consent to let the officer search your vehicle. Never. Even if you are 100% positive there is nothing illegal in the vehicle. DO NOT let the officer search it. The government has no business rummaging through our personal belongings without probable cause that we have broken the law. The 4th amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects from unreasonable searches and seizures. So if you are ever asked this question, regardless of whether or not youre ridin dirty, repeat after me: I dont consent to searches According to Miller, the officer then began saying that he had probable cause and reasonable suspicion to search his vehicle. Miller knew that these cops were going to search his vehicle with or without his consent. So, he pulled out his phone and began filming. In the short video, we see the deputy quickly realize his fishing scheme has been thwarted by his inability to decipher Chex Mix from cannabis. Prior to entering Millers vehicle, the deputy was told that he does not have permission to search it, yet he does anyway, in complete violation of Millers 4th Amendment rights. Instead of apologizing to Miller for unlawfully searching his vehicle and detaining him over snack crumbs, the deputy continues his barrage even after his ignorant mistake. Through your tint, it looks like marijuana buds, claimed the deputy. However, Miller said, what the officer was looking at was crumbs from Chex Mix that my son was snacking on in the front seat the day before.Photo taken by Miller showing the Chex Mix shake Am I free to go? Miller asked again after the illegal search. Not yet, we have to make sure you dont have any warrants, says the deputy. Since the deputies were in an unmarked car, they had no computer to check Miller for warrants, so this was done through time-consuming radio checks back to headquarters. In all, Miller was detained for over 30 minutes by these officers. Do you really believe youre doing something good for the community right now? Miller asked. What if that had been marijuana shake? he asked. How long have you been a police officer? Deputy Collier, according to Miller, said hes been with the department for eight years and then went on to make the asinine statement that marijuana is bad and people have been killed over marijuana. As Miller explains on the NORML website, marijuana is only dangerous because its illegal. Yeah, people have been killed because its illegal, people have been killed by their own government, kidnapped, sexually assaulted, extorted, imprisoned, and have had their children taken away from them by their own government, because its illegal, because of people like Deputy B.A. Collier enforcing these unjust and absurd laws. And going to ridiculous lengths and stretches of the imagination, spending over 30 minutes, to try and find enough marijuana to arrest a person. As weve seen countless times in the past, Miller could have easily been the subject of a forced body cavity search after Colliers search came up empty. Time and time again, we see peace officers like deputy Collier hell bent on finding a plant on someone. These tyrants have gone to extensive lengths, up to and including forced medical sodomy, public roadside anal cavity searches, and even murder, to protect society from the dangers of cannabis. Really? Maybe this cop should turn in his badge & firearm, and return to school.
