Title: Ron Paul: I feel 'kinship' with Sanders

Former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) said he feels a “kinship” with Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, noting that the two occasionally agree on some policies and oppose favors to the corporate world.

“We’re both against corporatism. We’re both against the special benefits to big business,” Paul said in an interview on Politicking with Larry King.

“His answer to that wouldn’t always be the same. Mine would always drift to the free markets. His would drift to ‘well we need more government to redistribute wealth,’ but we could both attack subsidies to business or the military industrial complex,” he continued. “In that sense, there is a kinship." Paul, a Libertarian who ran for president in 2008 and 2012, also touted the relationship between Libertarians and progressives.

“I think you can come together without compromising just because we overlap. That to me would be a much better coalition,” he said.

But Paul hasn’t always offered praise to the Vermont senator. During an interview in March on CNN, Paul vowed that he wouldn’t back Sanders’s presidential bid and likened him to presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.

“No, because he’s an authoritarian,” he said when asked if he’d back the independent Vermont senator on “CNN Newsroom." “He’s just a variant of Trump. Even the things I worked with on Bernie, some of the foreign policy, he’s a part of the military industrial complex.”

Paul has also been very critical of Trump, saying in late March that he wouldn’t vote for the real estate mogul.

"I was very explicit about that. I wouldn't vote for Donald Trump," he said on CNN. "If you can't stand any of them and you happen to be a dedicated progressive, you ought to make your vote count and vote for the Green Party and if you happen to be a libertarian, vote for the Libertarian Party.”

He has also blasted Trump’s proposal for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I think it sounds like theft,” he said in April on Fox Business Network’s “Kennedy." "And I think it sounds like something illegal. I think it sounds like it's immoral.”

Ignoring all the "tard" psychopath hype....

Ron Paul is not and should not be endorsing Trump. Paul is honest enough to both recognize and freely admit common ground he has with Sanders, and that common ground is clear enough. They both do NOT favor government handouts to corporate powers. And they do not. Sanders because he is opposed to cronyism and Paul because he believes in an even playing field for all businesses, otherwise known as capitalism.

Trump IS an authoritarian. Paul is correct about that. And why wouldn't Trmup be? Has Trump ever had to work for someone else a day in his life? Trump has little or no experience, certainly none in the last 35 years, of what it's like to be forced to put up with rules that are inherently unjust and unfair. Therefore anyone who breaks those rules for moral reasons (like Snowden) is someone Trump has no sympathy or empathy for.

Paul represents civil liberties, and even though I hope Trump wins, I would be disappointed if Paul endorsed him, because Paul would compromize his principles if he did.

Sanders and Paul both recognize the problem of corporate cronyism, and if both recognize the US military is far fatter than it needs to be (with a bigger budget than the next 15-20 biggest nation spenders combined). So sure, there is common ground. But Paul is not going to be a standard dishonest politician and falsely claim he has nothing in common with Sanders, when he clearly does, just to politically put some distance between himself and Sanders.

Paul honestly recognizes what issues he has in common with others, and what issues he does not have in common. He's done both with Sanders, and he's right on both points.

I'm hopeful that when Trump gets into office, he'll find out just how badly the US has been screwing the world and make heads role for all the crimes that have been committed over the past 15 years and then change his tune somewhat away from seeing military solutions to world issues, instead negotiating them. He's an excellent negotiator, afterall, and he knows that opposing parties want things, and giving them what they want is actually a good way to make deals. That's something neither W nor Obama have ever understood.

Ron Paul doesn't say stupid stuff like that, so I checked the source. What you quoted from thehill.com was taken out of context. Here's the 5 min interview:

thehill.com/blogs/ballot-...co-wall-sounds-like-theft

Ron is NOT saying that building the wall would be theft. All 3 points Ron made, "theft", "illegal" and "immoral" were not referring to the wall at all. They were instead referring to Trump's plan to make Mexico pay for it. That was the question put to him to which he was responding. The thought being that Trump would tax money sent by individuals from the US to Mexico.

I think reasonable perspectives may vary on this. Some could say it's okay to do a tax like that, some may say it's not, but either way, it doesn't diminish my impression of Paul one bit. Even if I'd disagree outright, I don't have to agree with all candidates on all points to recognize they'd be excellent presidents. As I already made clear, I don't agree with Trump on everything.

Edit: thehill.com should be admonished for quoting Paul's comments very much out of context.

Trump is right that there is a huge illegal immigration problem. Of course he's right about that!

There's nothing kooky about coming up with ideas to address it, even if some ideas are kooky, and I don't think that "making Mexico pay for it" is a bad idea, even if it won't ever happen. Many good ideas are not feasible. One has to start somewhere.

Is Mexico getting foreign aid? If so, cut it off and use that money to build the wall. Maybe that's technically not "making Mexico pay for it" but that's not a kooky idea. An import tax on Mexican goods could pay for it. That's similarly not hitting up workers in the US for the cost of the wall, but sort of makes Mexico pay the bill, sort of.

The US desperately needs a president who will cut out the cancer that is plaguing DC. I would prefer Paul over Trump, but Trump's "authoritarian" streak might also be beneficial in exposing and eradicating a lot of crime that's been taking place behind the veil of "national security". Trump is a loose cannon. He is a wildcard, and he may well change his mind, and likely will, on issues once he's in office. But he does seem to want to put the interests of Americans ahead of the governments or his own, very much in contrast to Clinton, who is just doing it for her own glory.

Comments have been made about Trump's ego. If you want to see ego, don't look at Trump. Look at Hillary. Trump is proud and arrogant, and not unjustly so, as he's very capable and intelligent and has proved that throughout his life. But any coronation for ego goes to Hillary.

I am a deist.

You have my deepest heartfelt sympathy.

I know little about deism simply because I have no interest to learn.

I do however know that deism does reject the supernatural aspects of religion. Such as belief in revelation in the Bible, and deism stresses the importance of “ethical conduct.”

Therefore, knowing your poor record of judgment rationalizations and misconceptions about “ethical conduct” … I can easily understand why deism fails as a philosophical paradigm of the universe.

I do not go to church every time the doors are opened, but I love Jesus Christ. I am only human and fail Him daily. I believe Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, was crucified on a cross, died for my sins and rose from the dead and that He loves us dearly, and is faithful to forgive us of our sins. But He says that if you deny me in front of your friends I will deny you in front of my Father. This is the best challenge I've seen on Facebook, so if you love Him replace my name with yours and make this your status update. Can I get an Amen!

At your old age, your mental skills are seriously impaired; perhaps they always were lacking. Do you have dementia or alzheimer's?

Do you have dementia or alzheimer's?

I have never thought about it. Describe to me the group of symptoms that had a bad affect on your memory and reasoning tasks, and I will give it some consideration.

Did your problem start with simple episodes of forgetfulness, having trouble keeping track of time, losing your way in familiar settings and then progress? Have you noticed that it is harder for you to recall names as your forgetfulness and confusion grows? Do you show signs of posting repetitious comments, poor decision-making and thinking totally weird things … like voting for your dog in the presidential primary?

But then, maybe your symptoms are caused from toking for a long period time. You know, this can cause irreversible brain damage that leads to permanent memory and thinking problems … and sometimes this is mistaken for Alzheimer’s and dementia. No kidding, a new study by international researchers have found the cognitive deficits associated with marijuana use are worse in people with a longer history of taking the drug.

I want you to say: socks, comb, and key. Next, draw a face of a clock showing all 12 numbers in the right places and draw the clock hands to the time you are making your reply post. Now, repeat the names of the common objects I mentioned earlier. Finally, consider the results of this brief test … it can help a physician determine if you need further evaluation.
