Title: PA residents have tried to buy 97 guns every hour

In the past three months, Pennsylvania residents have tried to buy 97 firearms every hour. Additionally, the number of requests this quarter through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) is up 26 percent from last year. Since PICS was established in 1998, the number of background checks has incrementally increased from 200,000 at it inception to over a million by 2013. That was mostly due to the post-Sandy Hook talk about gun control (via Penn Live):

Every hour during the months of January, February and March, more than 97 people attempted to buy or transfer ownership of a gun in Pennsylvania. And those are just the legal transactions.

According to the state police firearms report, 213,054 background checks for individuals hoping to obtain a firearm were conducted in the first three months of this year, up from 180,938 for the same time period last year. Another 96,417 background checks were done for those seeking concealed carry permits, up from 64,640 in the first quarter of 2015.

And 1,873 background checks were performed on individuals who sought to have returned guns that were held as police evidence. That is up from 675 checks done in the first three months of 2015.

Major Scott Price, director of the state police’s Bureau of Records and Identification, said overall, the number of Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) checks conducted in the first quarter of this year are up 26 percent over the same time period last year.

[…]

When Pennsylvania first established the PICS system in 1998, the state police averaged 200,000 background checks a year. State police records show that jumped to more than 1.1 million in 2013 and 893,054 in 2014. The data for 2015 isn’t available at this time, Price said.

This is good news – more Pennsylvania residents are exercising their Second Amendment rights. Yet, the state is probably one of the few bastions of pro-gun sentiment in the Northeastern parts of the country other than Vermont. It’s a hunting state dotted with State Game Lands, with over half of the National Rifle Association’s membership living within a four-hour drive of Pittsburgh. I would hope Second Amendment sentiments would be strong and it appears to be healthier than ever.

Gee, wonder what is up with this?

I hope all those potential new firearm owners buy plenty of ammo while they are at it.

Hoping?

What the HELL is that all about? The second amendment SECURES each and every citizen the right to keep and bear arms ... nowhere does the US Constitution suggest "hope." Well ... today we have a "hope & change" Kenyan in the WhoreHouse, so maybe it is about him?

Yeah, I would have to guess that demand has surged so much that demand has stripped supply.

I have told people for a long time, if you want firearms, buy now. And buy all the ammo you can get your hands on.

Friends looking for ammo, especially .22 have told me that they wish they had taken my advise years ago.

Snooze, you lose!

I hope people concerned about their 2nd amendment rights buys enough supplies to RELOAD enough ammo to satisfy their ammo needs until they grow old and die

Yeah, would be a good idea.

or

One could just buy wholesale, in case lots. This is a good approach, especially if you are talking about surplus military calibers, .223, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 308, and 30-06. Of course, prices for those have gone up over the last few years, but it is safer to store cases of loaded ammo, than to store cases of powder.

And they are ready to use NOW " Hey honey, there is a brick of .22 in the corner, you & the kids hold em off for 30 minutes while I reload a few boxes "

Now if your ready rack is populated with .217 Zipper, 257 Roberts Ackley Improved, .264, etc, etc then yeah, you better stock up on all necessary components.

I still have all my gear, and enough components to reload. But noways, I just reload to load a few at a time, for accuracy, not quantity. I think even though shotgun shells are cheap, and plentiful, one can set up for them fairly cheap. I have Lee Load Alls for 12 & 20 gauge. I don't throw away the hulls. They were $20.00 each when i got them. I don't know what they are now.

Don't forget bayonets, LOL
