I don't really care for arguments about the economic benefits of immigration - for the simple reason that culture trumps economics. Somewhere in After America, I quote a particularly fatuous slab of happy talk on the subject:

'Sober-minded economists reckon that the potential gains from freer global migration are huge,' writes Philippe Legrain in Immigrants: Your Country Needs Them. 'The World Bank reckons that if rich countries allowed their workforce to swell by a mere three per cent by letting in an extra 14 million workers from developing countries between 2001 and 2025, the world would be $356 billion a year better off, with the new migrants themselves gaining $162 billion a year, people who remain in poor countries $143 billion, and natives in rich countries $139 billion.'

$139 billion? From "a mere" 14 million extra immigrants? Wow!

As Christopher Caldwell points out in his book Reflections On The Revolution In Europe, the aggregate gross domestic product of the world's advanced economies for the year 2008 was estimated by the International Monetary Fund at close to $40 trillion. So an extra $139 billion works out to an extra, er, 0.0035. Caldwell compares the World Bank argument to Dr Evil's triumphant announcement that he's holding the world hostage for one million dollars!!! As he says, "Sacrificing 0.0035 of your economy would be a pittance to pay for starting to get your country back."

Because culture trumps economics. If you're a Swede who likes living in Sweden what would you rather forego? The 0.0035 of spectacular gangbusters economic growth? Or the mosques and the honor killings and the no-go areas and the cross-cultural rape epidemic?

On the fault line of economics and culture comes this new paper from my old NR colleague Mark Krikorian's think tank:

More than half of the nation's immigrants receive some kind of government welfare, a figure that's far higher than the native-born population's, according to a report to be released Wednesday.

About 51% of immigrant-led households receive at least one kind of welfare benefit, including Medicaid, food stamps, school lunches and housing assistance, compared to 30% for native-led households, according to the report from the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates for lower levels of immigration.

Those numbers increase for households with children, with 76% of immigrant- led households receiving welfare, compared to 52% for the native-born.

Those figures suggest that, in the age of welfare, America's mass immigration is little different from the Old World's. Europeans are told they need immigrants to help prop up their otherwise unsustainable social programs: In reality, Turkish immigrants have three times the rate of welfare dependency as ethnic Germans, and their average retirement age is 50. Entire industries have been signed up for public subsidy. From After America:

Two-thirds of French imams are on the dole. Does the World Bank set their welfare checks on the debit side of that spectacular 0.0035 economic growth? Or does that count as valuable long-term investment in the critical economic growth sector of fire-breathing mullahs?

Importing dependency on the present scale has cultural consequences for America that far outweigh any economic benefits. It tips us ever deeper into a bifurcated society of social immobility, with a prosperous elite, an all but extinct middle class, and a vast swamp of people with a choice of either welfare checks or low-wage service jobs - the Age of the New Servility, as Mickey Kaus sees it. If Trump et al can wrest this issue away from the Republican Party's depraved donor class, tragedy might yet be averted...

If culture trumps economics, and you want to preserve white European-American culture, then you have to accept wealth distribution from the very rich whites to the working and middle class whites, because that is the only way that working and middle class whites have the financial security to have enough babies to be able to continue to operate the country, and for the culture to survive.

Whites do not reproduce at anything like replacement rate. The white population everywhere in the world is imploding. In Scandinavia and France, where they have the greatest degree of wealth redistribution through taxation and social programs that specifically target and encourage people to have babies, and raise them in secure housing, with ample time off for mothers to be able to raise the children, they are almost (but not quite) at a replacement rate of fertility. To actually GET TO the replacement rate, they would have to make middle class and working class feel MORE secure, by a bit MORE wealth redistribution.

But everywhere else in the White world - America, Canada, Germany, etc.? Demographic death spiral. 10% controls 85% of the wealth. And the working and middle class white Europeans in those working and middle classes feel the pressure, and respond to it by postponing childbearing, having fewer children, and often, going past childbearing age.

The net result is a demographic hole that turns into a death spiral. Fewer workers should mean much higher wages for the remaining whites - and that would effect wealth redistribution. If you end illegal immigration and deport the foreigners, to preserve the white European culture, you are going to need to pay McDonald's workers $18 per hour, with full medical and retirement benefits, and job security, because workers will be scarce.

Americans, British, Germans, etc., are not willing to do that. They are not willing to redistribute wealth to the working and middle class whites. THEREFORE, INEVITABLY, the whites don't have babies. And that is what is happening everywhere. Where the social safety net provides the most protection, whites have the most children. It's very obvious how that works.

And as the white population dwindles, the basic economic law of supply and demand forces wages higher and higher, and workers organize to protect themselves and their benefits, because scarce workers are valuable and have the power to protect themselves.

All of white culture has responded by importing labor, which hastens the end of the culture.

The bottom line, dictated by the laws of economics is this: if you want to preserve the culture, you have to have a robust native birth rate and not permit too much immigration. To have the robust native birth rate, you have to redistribute the wealth that has been concentrated at the top down to the rest of the people.

The 10% that have 85% of the wealth would have to have about half of that redistributed downwards to the rest, to raise up enough of the rest to the stability where they'll have babies. If you won't do that, then you future will be Spanish or Islamic.

As things stand right now we have wealth distribution from working and middle class whites to the very rich whites. This is further worked to redistribute wealth from white gentiles to Pharisees, the financial system has been perverted into a casino rigged to fleece gentiles.

Your proposal would not introduce wealth redistribution, it would merely change the direction of the flow. To the degree that your populist program would reverse the cultural decline of America it could be a good thing. You could probably sell this, after all the biggest liberals in America are the globalist billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg and the Koch brothers.

Truth is, the white countries that have birth rates closest to replacement are Denmark, Sweden and France, and these are the very countries that have the highest tax rates and the most comprehensive social support programs for families - paying extra subsidies to large families (including middle class families), mandating job security for women to take two years off work to raise their newborns, providing universal government child care, etc. Make white people secure, and they have babies. When they are insecure, they don't.

Very good observation.

And that observation of reality is why conservatives have to choose between the American brand of capitalism, or American culture, tradition and language.

The very nature of American capitalism is to extract profits by squeezing wages. In Scandinavia and France, workers are off limits. Workers can only be fired for cause, and lay-offs for economic reasons are not in the discretion of the company alone: the company must demonstrate to a review board that the layoffs are in fact economically necessary. Maintaining a certain dividend level for investors, or maintaining a bonus and perk structure for executives is NOT a legitimate reason. Companies are denied the right to lay off workers and must instead cut dividends and cut executive bonuses if the review board determines that the lay-offs are unjustified.

The French and the Scandinavians realize that people's jobs are their livelihoods, and that if people are brutally terminated en masse simply in order to maintain a certain quantum of profit, that those unemployed people will become the responsibility of the welfare state. The taxation on the profits does not equal the outlays for the unemployed. THEREFORE, there is no "employment at will". Employers are permitted to operate in the stream of commerce and make a profit, but the hiring of workers is the same as the use of natural resources: these are valuable and protected assets, to which nobody has an automatic right of access on his own terms. If you are going to burn oil, you must do so using environmentally approved and tested burners. If you are going to employ people, you are taking on an obligation to the welfare of the people you employ, and you cannot use job insecurity as way of controlling them through fear, the way Americans do.

The result is that French and Scandinavians who have jobs are secure in those jobs. And providing universal health insurance, child care, and job guarantees for mothers of young children to be able to take time off to care for their children without any consequences from the employer is all part and parcel of the package of protection.

The net result is that French and Scandinavian levels of unemployment, measured apples to apples, are lower than in America, and there is a lot less insecurity and anxiety among middle class French and Scandinavians than Americans. And, as a direct result, the French and Scandinavians (white middle class) have more babies per capita than Americans or Germans or the English.

However, they STILL don't hit replacement. Partly that's because the benefits are still not sufficient to give full comfort. But the bigger part is that people are highly sexualized and view sex as a primary form of recreation - the men, in particular, do not want to settle down. Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?

What this really means, "au fond" as the French would say (roughly, "at the bottom of it all") is that wealth redistribution can get a society almost all of the way to sustainability, but still falls short. Moral reform, in the direction of traditional religion, is necessary to actually get over the finish line.

And here, I'm afraid to say that I think France and Scandinavia are ultimately as doomed as the rest of Europe, and that white America may also be.

Wealth redistribution will make the collapse move more slowly in France and Scandinavia, but below replacement is still below replacement.

Here, the Catholic Latinos and the Muslims have a distinct advantage. Their religions drive them to having children regardless of economic security. When Muslims are having huge numbers of children, and European whites are not, there is no long term hope for the whites if those trends continue.

One aspect of Islam that will eventually prove attractive to European white males is polygamy. Having multiple submissive wives will make a lot of men happy, and in the absence of any other religion, they may side with the strong horse and become Muslim.

All of this can be thwarted if Christians would actually FOLLOW God's law. But they really refuse to, pretty categorically. Which means that, in truth, the white race is probably doomed. It will diminish, and the survivors will mix with others, and that will be that.

I don't think I can even call the present system capitalism. I'll admit the term does not make sense to me as a way of distinguishing between political systems. I think of capital as productive assets, and many types of economic systems require this "capital." Lenin even called his system "state capitalism."

The plutocrats of today loath capital as much as they loath labor. Apple is a religion that issues quarterly reports, they've outsourced capital the same as they've outsourced labor. The productive assets are owned by others and overseas, the company itself would have low liquidation value.

Until 30 years the stock market would cycle to where the ratio between market cap went between and corporate liquidation value was around 0.5 to 1.4, and at the high point you'd have a recession to bring things in line. This is all driven my monetary inflation driven by the compounding effect of fractional reserve banking. Leading to the thrill of paper gains driven by leveraging, followed by the pain of deleveraging and not being as well off as imagined. Meanwhile a lot of actual wealth was transferred, so the system does act like a ratchet to concentrate wealth upwards. The hangover follows the drunkenness like night follows day.

We've seen host of great industrial enterprises liquidated, that provided millions of jobs and a wide array of useful items. We are assured by the ruling class Minkail Suslovs at WSJ that these were buggy whip industries. America seems to be importing several hundred BILLION dollars worth of WSJ "buggy whips" every year.

To address the issues afflicting the American wage earner we will need to address the root causes. We cannot simply try to micro-manage like Diocletian and put lipstick on a pig.

Mathematics are part of God's laws. Science does not decree laws, it can only discover laws that have already been decreed. That the ratio between the circumference and diameter of a circle is 3.14157*** was not man's to decree, it could only be discovered.

If the math is wrong, it is going against God's law. The Wall Street crowd is all about gaming things to look at performance over manipulated time frames in order to find suckers willing to trade away the family cow for some magic beans. And the WSJ crowd pimps and shills for the magic beans.

And the ones who end up with the families cow end up consuming it, like they've consumed a host of productive assets to finance their lifestyles of lavish consumption. In Pennsylvania there is a case of a steel mill that was converted into a casino. That is a good metaphor for America, and it is foolish. And foolishness will pay it wages just as sin will.

The degenerate ruling class is taking America back to a feudal society of toll booths collecting rents for artificial values assigned to what they hold by the government they control. The America wage earner needs to wage war against the ruling class, it would not be the initiation of class warfare, it would be the opening of a counteroffensive in the class war the ruling class wages against us.

While I generally agree with your analysis, I am less militant about it than you are. Yes, wealth has been concentrated upwards, purposely, and that has beggared everybody. And yes, that makes me mad. But the "striking back" that i want to see done is simply an equalized tax code: a gross wealth tax That will do the job without directing outcomes.

There does seem to be a contradiction.

The crux of the problem is that we have far too many people self impressed people, including CEOs, who consider themselves too grandiose of intellect to be engaged in in the mundane production of necessary goods and services. The WSJ and Washington post are dedicated to appealing to such useless personalities.
