Chris Squire, the bassist and co-founder of the progressive rock band Yes who recently announced he had leukemia, has died, according to a statement from his band members on Sunday. He was 67.

The band posted a statement on its Facebook page saying Squire "peacefully passed away" Saturday in Phoenix, where he lived. No more details about the death were provided.

Squire announced last month that he had acute erythroid leukemia, a rare form of acute myeloid leukemia. He was receiving treatment before he died.

"It's with the heaviest of hearts and unbearable sadness that we must inform you of the passing of our dear friend and Yes co-founder, Chris Squire," said the statement from Alan White, Steve Howe, Jon Davison and Geoff Downes.

Squire was born on March 4, 1948, in London. He co-founded the band with its former lead singer, Jon Anderson, and the group released its self-titled debut album in 1969. Squire was the only member to play on all of Yes' albums.

"For the entirety of Yes' existence, Chris was the band's linchpin and, in so many ways, the glue that held it together over all these years," the band's statement read. "Because of his phenomenal bass-playing prowess, Chris influenced countless bassists around the world, including many of today's well-known artists."

Squire, a talented and dominant bass guitarist, was one of the leaders of progressive rock in the 1970s. His website says he was a choirboy in his youth, which set the foundation for his musical talents.

He released his solo debut, "Fish Out of Water," in 1975, and also played in the short-lived supergroup XYZ (eX-Yes-Zeppelin), which included Jimmy Page.

Yes released the album "Heaven & Earth" last year. The Grammy-winning band's hits include "Roundabout" and "Owner of a Lonely Heart," which became a No. 1 hit on the Billboard pop charts in the 1980s. The group will launch a U.S. tour with Toto in August, when Billy Sherwood will fill in for Squire.

Squire is survived by his wife, Scotland, and several children.

Bair, Dorinda - Denver

Dorinda Kathryn Bair died peacefully on the evening of April 29, 2015, surrounded by friends and family. Dorinda grew up in Sandpoint, Idaho, born there on August 7, 1963 to Clara Elnora Bair (nee Barker) and Frank John Bair. Dorinda's parents passed away while she was a young girl, she spent many difficult and character building years in foster care. She is survived by her brother Jonathan Bair, her sister Selma Bair, nieces Errin, Jennifer and Shelley, her best childhood friend and confidant, Christy Schoonover, and her spouse, Roger Melick. She attended North Idaho College where she received an Associate of Arts degree in graphic arts and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in geology, and attended Colorado School of Mines in a geochemistry track. She attended the Juneau Icefield Research Program where she developed her love for Alaska and the people she met and worked with there. Dorinda worked underground at the A.J. Mine (Alaska-Juneau Mine) from 1986 until 1993, and at Round Mountain and McCoy Cove in Nevada for Echo Bay Mines. Her dearest memories were of Juneau, Douglas Island, of Nevada and her friends there and her work mapping and interpreting the geology. Her speciality is in mesothermal gold deposits, though she loved a good gossan, mapped porphyries, couldn't stay away from skarns and actively sought out greisens and pegmatites in her free time. Being quite good at it, she amassed a lot of very neat rocks. Dorinda was a well respected, well educated, well travelled and highly skilled geologist. As a resource geologist she visited and mapped a wide variety of mineral deposits in sometimes harsh, treacherous, desolate conditions, often in less than optimum weather, carrying too much gear. On the weekends during good weather she could often be found at one of her gem claims mining for topaz with her husband. Her favorite stone was gem olivine, also known as peridot. Dorinda was a member of SEG, AIPG, and held a Public Geologic Certification. She was a past member of the Denver Orchid Society. Dorinda was a geologist, naturalist, and a fiber artist. She was a mountain climber and backcountry skier. She could bushwhack for miles in terrain that turned most people back. She created woven and knitted treasures from thread she spun from her prized spinning wheel. Her most recent project left unfinished was a lacy green-colored tunic called "Bleeding Hearts". Dorinda mined some of the finest topaz found in North America. She was a mushroom hunter extraordinaire, always finding the first morel. Organic gardening and permaculture were a passion with her and she cultivated award- winning orchids, her favorites being paphiopedalums, or "slipper orchids", but she fell in love with flowers the size of gnats. She loved the odd, unusual, offcolor, colorful, bizarre, beautiful and brilliant all around her and surrounded herself with it. Dorinda was a voracious reader, a technical writer, she enjoyed epic tales that spanned time and space. Though she always complained of being a slow reader, her library is extensive and voluminous. Music, in particular regional music from places around the globe where she worked was central to her life. She had a music room, several guitars, dulcimers and a violin. She played beautiful classical guitar and regrets she didn't spend more time with it. Dorinda was an epicurean with a taste for adventure and culture. She had a true love for life. Her saphron mead, pickled peppers, mango chutney were legendary and her culinary artistry will be greatly missed. She regrets leaving us so suddenly and did her best to say goodbye to all she loved and cherished. Goodbye Dear Dorinda, May You Rest In Peace. Share Memories and Condolences 5 Read Obituary.

Dufficy, Kathryn - Denver

Kathryn Alice Dufficy, 88, of Denver passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 19, 2015. One of eight devoted children of Clara Therien and Joseph Quinn, beloved wife of William James Dufficy (USN/WWII), and proud mother of Mary Kathryn (Richard Ratigan) of Lakewood, William Joseph (Jean) of Lakewood, Timothy Patrick (Nancy) of Boulder, James Joseph (Sheryl) of Driggs, Idaho, Thomas Emmett (Patricia Kelly) of Lakewood, Daniel Francis, deceased (Lisa), Kevin Matthew (Ellen) of Lakewood, and Clara Ann (Francisco LaRosa) of Lakewood. Kathryn also is survived by her faithful sister Corinne (Mike McLellan) of Denver, and 23 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Kathryn devoted her early years to helping her mother and seven siblings cope with the trials of the Great Depression after their father's untimely passing. A standout student at St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Denver and National Honor Society member, Kathryn could not afford to attend college, and instead worked as an executive assistant in the Denver investment firm of Peters, Writer & Christiansen to help support the family. Kathryn and her siblings developed powerful bonds of loyalty and friendship during those formative years which endured the rest of their lives. Kathryn was similarly devoted to her faith community, attributing the family's survival in part to the support of the Sisters of Mercy at their parish, Presentation of Our Lady Catholic Church. Kathryn later gave back through tireless volunteering and fund-raising for Presentation's grade school, and later for the Denver high schools attended by her children, St. Francis de Sales and St. Joseph's. When these schools were closed for lack of funding, Kathryn helped to form a new, consolidated Central Catholic High School near downtown, which provided nearly 10 more years of Catholic education for Denver-area families. She also played key roles in fund- raising for building new churches for the Queen of Vietnamese Martyrs (Wheat Ridge) and Presentation parishes. In 1976, Kathryn helped her husband and sons form and grow a new business, Central Denver Ironworks, which remains in operation today. Kathryn was a life-long student of history, greatly admiring the lives of Abe Lincoln and St. Pio of Pietrelcina, and meditated often on Acts. Visitation Monday, 6/29 at 6pm, followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7pm, Risen Christ Catholic Church, 3060 S. Monaco Pkwy. Funeral Mass Tuesday, 6/30 at 10am, Notre Dame Catholic Church, 2190 S. The Golden Age of rock-n-roll? It's kinda overrated and it seems nostalgic to pine over pop music from sixty years ago. There really aren't all that many good songs in any era.

The 50's guys stood on stage and played three chords -- basically the blues 1 4 5 chords in any scale, but at twice the blues speed. Some of the most adventurous ones shook their hips to the dismay of southern preachers.

Today it's more than just music -- it's about performance. Costumes, acting, drama and yes music.

It didn't start with Buddy Holly. It started with Alice Cooper.

Also I 6m IV V (except for when Santo and Johnny released Seep Walk and used the IVm instead of the IV).

And I said it ended when Buddy Holly died. Admittedly not so but close enough. The era of 50s R'n'R was in fact pure fun - with no pretenses otherwise. You will never know the joy and excitement of a live Alan Freed R'n'R show at the Brooklyn Paramont Theater. There are no contemporary equals in this regard than the likes of Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, the Platters, the Coasters, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, etc. etc. etc. Yes you are correct today's perfomers need as much hype and gimmicks as they can pack on a stage. Popular music has contunually spiraled downward since '50s to become mostly a cacophony of vulgar utterernesses - and much of it today with just one chord. You are welcomed to it.
