And while Rawlings-Blake may not be accustomed to “aggressive” reporting, Vittert wasn’t about to let that deter him from trying to find out why there has been an increase in crime.

“Is that because the police are doing less?” he asked.

“As I said before, there are a lot of reasons why,” Rawlings-Blake replied.

“Is that one of them?” Vittert interjected. “Arrests are down 50 percent.”

At this point, the mayor paused out of frustration, then said, “I am not 100 percent sure what you are doing.”

“I am just asking a question,” the reported replied.

“You’re not. You’re being rude, just like you were before,” the mayor snapped.

“So if you would like to ask a question and give me an opportunity to answer, we can do this. Otherwise, I will end the conference.”

Rawlings-Blake has plenty of reasons to not be happy with the Fox News reporter.

Vittert was the first to report that the mayor told Baltimore police to stand down against rioters, saying “let them loot, it’s only property” — which she continues to deny.

He also attempted to interview Rawlings-Blake on her way to speak at an Al Sharpton event. She took a lot of heat nationally from that encounter when Sharpton, acting as if he were a member of her security detail, intervened to prevent the interview.

Nonetheless, with the level of leadership on display in Baltimore, and cops hesitant to police aggressively, residents there need to hunker down for what is likely to be a long, hot, and violent summer.

I live in Maryland, glad I don't live in Baltimore.

Crime is not bad where I live and police have always been professional with me,

I do have coworkers who live in the city and I make fun of them

Are things in the city as bad as the media is saying about the increased crime rate, or is it mostly media hype?

The murders you hear about are confined mostly to the poor black areas with black victims, not in the areas where my coworkers live.

These are areas of Baltimore that I avoid. In past years (Decades ago) I have strayed into some of them and its not pretty, typically some residents in them will make some sort of threatening gesture to me making me want to leave fast.

That is not typical of blacks in most areas of Maryland that I frequent.

The media makes it sound really bad, assuming the numbers are right.

I am sure it is really bad if you live in those areas.
The part of Maryland that I live in (not Baltimore) is peaceful, blacks are polite and civil. Police have always been polite and professional to me .

I think its a good thing that they are reporting it.
I wouldn't want to be a cop in those areas.
Two of those four cops indicted were black.

One of the grand ironies of this is how the left is turning on Martin O Malley over this for lowering the murder rate as Mayor with his policing policies.
I hate him. He raised tax after tax, fee after fee in his eight years as governor.
