This is not a link to any article but I am getting the impression the Republicans who support wars and increasing the military's budget and the so called hawk mentality are really freaked out over Rand Paul and the only reason Graham is running is to make sure that Paul does not win Republican voters over to his side. Graham, was actually seen as sort of a less vocal hawk a few years ago. His current tough guy persona seems fake - like he was hired to play a part by a lobby group.

Is Lindsey Graham's only reason for running as pres to make sure Rand Paul does not win over GOP converts so they party can remain hawkish?

Exactly how is Graham supposed to affect Paul's primary performance?

Am I to believe that Paul's supporters' second choice is Graham? That Graham's profound, thought-provoking statements will win hearts and minds? Please. This idiot is more in the Giuliani "muh terrorists!" mold.

It works like on Freerepublic - when you go against the grain you get a few people that follow you around and denounce you and it is a very effective technique. For some reason American conservatives seem to be more group thinking than commies. It is all about ideological purity, party orthodoxy and tamping down dissent. God forbid anyone mentions the failins of the 5 year plan (in this case how the interventionist ideology caused the debacle in the middle east).

I wanted to get back to you on this. That is going on there right now again.

I used to post FR stuff at liberty post and in late 2010 I noticed that JR posted a new rules thread that was identical to his one in 2004 except it was missing the paragraph saying that FR posters must support the 'Bush doctrine' of invasion and nation building. I posted a thread there pointing this out,

Clearly something went wrong, he must have decided in just that year that demanding that was losing him donations.

Removed paragraph: “In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side. Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I'm trying to attract to FR) support the strategy of taking the fight to the enemy as opposed to allowing the enemy the luxury of conducting their attacks on us at home on their terms and on their schedule. “ “Therefore, we wholeheartedly support the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive strikes on known terrorist states and organizations that are believed to present a clear threat to our freedom or national security..”
