Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul has ended a more than 10 ½-hour filibuster-like speech on the Senate floor to protest the renewal of the Patriot Act, highlighting his opposition to the National Security Agency's controversial bulk collection of telephone data.

"All this gathering up of bulk data records isn't what we needed," Paul said on Wednesday of his perspective on how the terrorists behind 9-11 could have been better tracked.

Paul officially relinquished the Senate floor at 11:48 after 10 hours and 30 minutes.

I'm gonna throw Rand my support in 16... but he's fighting a losing battle. The sheep want to be watched, fed and protected. There ain't no changing that. The Liberty movement is growing... but not as fast as the welfare movement. lol

Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves. What is equally true is that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on. Robert Kennedy

He does have some good points.

I believe he will serve America better by staying in the Senate and continuing to raise Hell.

I don't think he could do much of anything as President.

I am still looking for my choice....the "pickin' is slim."

Some economic reverses in the already dismal economy may make people rethink past assumptions.

At some point, the Millennials are likely to get tired of being the fall guys of the Left's vision of a government that is a combo of Big Brother, Big Nanny, and Uncle Sugar and America, World Police.

We might be only a crisis away from an abrupt change in direction. Back in 2008, Ron Paul told backers urging him to run for prez that none of the serious thinkers among libertarians thought any breakthrough could come before the 2016-2024 timeframe. He ran anyway at their urging but always thought this. He hasn't changed his opinions.

The gop has yet to come up with 'the choice'. --- And when he shows up, he'd be smart to put Rand Paul in the VP slot.

The GOP has a lot of choices. Almost too many. I'm not sure that will work well for conservative voters. This is how Romney dodged the rest of the field and used deep pockets to wear down the rest of the 2012 field. The Right had better settle on a nominee before the GOP elite can just impose their choice. The establishment works hard to make sure another Reagan type does not appear and disrupt business as usual.

The Right had better settle on a nominee

Which "right" are you talking about?

The big government "right" -- Santorum, Huckleberry

The Tea Party "right" -- Paul, Cruz

The accomplished leader "right" -- Scott Walker, John Kasich, Carlie Fiorina, Bobby Jindal

The outsider "right" -- Ben Carson, Carly Fiorini

Which "right" are you talking about?

There isn't any "right". This is why another stumblebum Bush will likely waltz to the nomination and be crushed in the general election.

I don't think he could do much of anything as President.

Reversing several tyrannical executive orders wouldn't be much would it?
