I'm posting this even though no one my care.
Some of us have had discussions about this.

It's a 3.8 ghz quad core AMD (4 ghz 'turbo' mode).

I assembled it from a kit from Tiger Direct.
But I added the hard drive and DVDRW drive. All components are installed.
It boots to BIOS!
All devices recognized!
Sure it took me almost a month - so what.
Time now to install OS!
Woo Hoo!

Did you install those components yourself? If so, Yay!

Quite frankly - the big problem is making SPACE in
home office computer space. I have various crap
all over the the floor. That is the main issue.

So you and your housekeeper finally knocked it all off the table, eh?

Congrats!! What OS are you gonna install?

Windows 7. Mostly.

No Willie, I haven't diddled the housekeeper. (Yet)
I would like to.
But she has FIVE kids. FIVE.
Give that some serious thought.

Sure it took me almost a month - so what.

So...we all kinda lost interest because you were being so pokey.     : )

Should be smooth sailing now for a few years. For average use with internet and basic office apps, you're good to go. You should keep an eye out on RAM prices and go to 8GB or 16GB when the RAM hits its sweet spot, i.e. when it's at its lowest price before they phase it out and the price of the RAM modules starts going back up.

Back on WinXP and Vista, extra RAM didn't help much past 2GB other than certain specialized programs (like Photoshop). With newer versions of Windows, it can use all that RAM very well, the more the merrier. For instance, with 16GB on my Mac Mini quad-core, I am running Firefox with about 30 tabs open and an email program and a 512MB WinXP virtual machine and Android Studio and a bunch of other piddly util programs and yet I use no swap file at all and still have 5GB of RAM free. Everything runs silky smooth, even when I load it up with a bunch of programs running at once. When you eliminate the horrible old swap file, you'd be surprised how well these newer OSes can run. Everything runs almost instantly. And you usually don't have to quit any program, just let it keep running, no problem.

Windows 7 has been (almost) a dream.
Vista - eh - not so much...

Any recommendations for a Tablet?

No, sorry. Not really my bailiwick or area of expertise.
But if you insist, I recommend perhaps a blue one.
But seriously, decide on either an IPad or one of
myriad on Androids, and then proceed in your selection
process from there. Ask yourself: "Do I want to run IPad
apps, or Android apps? And WHY?" But then - looking at
the bigger picture - you could ask: "Why do we use these
darn machines at all?" So I would go with my first choice -
'Blue'. Hope that helped.

I haven't succumbed to the temptation yet, but the current #1 Best Seller on Amazon is the $99 Fire HD 7 Tablet.
I can't decide if I really need one, or just want one because they're cool and affordable.
Besides, I just bought a Internet Radio and don't need another new toy to play with just yet.

I'm sorry. Even though I admit no responsibility.
Hey - I didn't sell you the stuff...

Now - back to the thread topic -

Uhh - my 'Home office' is really to small to fit that designation.
But heck - it only has three computers (now 4) to fit in it.
Yes it IS the smallest bedroom in the house...
Uhhh - this is a mess...
