He’s back.

After a two-season exile, the man who took the Broncos to the divisional round in 2011 before being summarily dumped for Peyton Manning will have a new job in the NFL.

Per Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Tim Tebow will sign with the Eagles on Monday. (Yes, Glazer has the scoop, even though Tebow works for ESPN.)

Traded to the Jets in March 2012, Tebow had a single, disastrous season in New York. Cut by the Jets, the Patriots gave him a look in the 2013 offseason, training camp, and preseason. Tebow didn’t make the 53-man roster, and he hasn’t been heard from again.

The Eagles gave Tebow a workout on March 16, and they reportedly would be inclined to sign him only if Matt Barkley were traded. Barkley hasn’t been traded, and the connection never made sense; with 90 roster spots in the offseason and plenty of quarterbacks needed to distribute the ball during practice sessions.

Tebow arrives with the opening of the offseason program in Philadelphia, rejoining Mark Sanchez and a depth chart that also includes Sam Bradford, Barkley, and G.J. Kinne. With Bradford still rehabbing a torn ACL suffered last August, Tebow becomes as a practical matter the fourth quarterback who is able to participate in practice session that will begin after a two-week lifting/conditioning period.

(We'd never have even heard of either one except that one was the Virgin Quarterback)

I take it you don't watch much of SEC college football.

Must be the case.

Tebow notoriety is merit-based as a QB of Florida U's and two national championships on the Big Stage and a Heisman. And then of course leading the Denver Broncos to a Division Championship, an improbably six late comeback victories, and additional playoff victory over the Steelers.

Sam is co-winner of a flimsy conference Defensive Player of the Year in what was obviously an AA award. PERIOD. His homosexuality was an open secret.

The extent of sharing ANY compelling similarity of notoriety is purely a matter of the pro-homo agenda media's obsessive, endless promotion vs. their derision and ridicule of Tebow. Sam's notoriety is as result of his proclaimed "First Openly Queer College Player" to step out of the closet and flaunting his homosexuality and kiss on TV.

My theory is that Tebow and his sincere demeanor makes the hateful and habitually sinful feel....ashamed. They want nothing more than to see him fail, get hurt, and get tripped up by a single sin unnecessary. So then they can pull out the "HYPOCRITE!" card and feel better about themselves.

So, according to you, a bunch of NFL teams would much rather lose than to have Tebow leading them to victory. Because they don't actually care about winning.

I think that if they thought he could win, he'd be their #1 QB. But they don't so he isn't. Instead, he's #4 QB on a so-so team.

And Tebow and Sams are still very similar in that their fanbois drive all the coverage of them.

Not really. However, there was much to be a 'fanbois' about Tebow's college career. He actually led a team to two national championships.

And he did lead a hapless Broncos to after going 1-4 to a Division championship and went one victory deep in the playoffs...not to mention against the mighty Steelers that year. Tebow in one year did what Tony Romo could not do in the playoffs in almost 8 years...Win a playoff game.

So, if Tebow raped some chick or slapped his girlfriend around on camera or ran a dogfighting ring, the NFL would finally love him?

I don't think Tebow is that hated. I think his performance has not impressed the decision-makers. The same goes for Michael Sams.

Of course, it is easier and more palatable for fanbois to say "they hate Tebow" or "they hate Sam" than it is to admit they don't have top-rank talent in the eyes of the coaches and owners of NFL teams.

Most college ball players don't make it in the NFL. I don't see why Tebow (or Sam) are so different other than the religion or gaiety angle and their hordes of fanbois.

Certainly, it is possible for Tebow to up his game during this down period. It would help to explain this modest comeback. The NFL doesn't have a lot of comeback stories.

Jerry likes controversy, glitz and glamour that's why they didn't start drafting decent players until his son got more involved.

Since they picked up Hardy the need for a DL isn't as great I think they will draft a corner in the 1st if a good one is available.

I think they are going to try to get Bryce Petty (Baylor QB) in the draft this year, he's ranked 91 and the boys draft at 91 (3rd round). On the other hand they might go after Petty in the 2nd round (just to ensure they get him) since there a bunch of RBs available in the 3rd (which they need also).

After that they will draft a PK/KR and a bunch of the best defenders available, in which order well I have no clue.

So, you are with Liberator in the "every NFL team would rather lose than have Tebow as their QB" camp?

It is my opinion that doors closed to Tebow that would be open for other QBs in the league. We have had QBs work on a team an entire career without registering a playoff win.

NFL team owners are businessmen. So I understand them striving and dealing to get the best QB to lead their offense. However, I don't understand their bad business decisions with Tebow. Most NFL fans are also College Football fans. Tebow was one of the best players in College football and SEC history. That is income for an NFL team whether they start Tebow, try to convert him to another position or have him as back up QB. The Eagles seem to know this is a good business and football decision. Tebow will be a solid #2 as he proved he can take a competitive team and lead them to the playoffs and into the playoffs.

Your comparison to Mike Sam is way off. Sam was no "Tebow" of the defense. Tebow did not get drafted high because he was a Christian and did not lobby to be drafted because he was a Christian. Sam tried the gay thing to make his name known to a larger audience. Tebow did not have to do that as he was a proven champion in the VERY competitive SEC.

Now let's analyze our society a bit. We have a QB who led his team to two national championships, presents a moral example parents would like their kids to emulate and to quote Dennis Miller "Tebow is the type of guy I want my daughter to marry." We have this champion example of a man and he happens to be a Christian. He is defined by our society as 'too divisive' and 'too controversial.'

On the other hand we have more than a few NFL players each year suspended for domestic violence, drugs and one for murder. We have an average LB who no team would consider drafting other than ESPN and the liberal press trumping his homosexuality. Thus the homosexual lobby holding a loaded gun to GM's and owners heads. It took them a lot of PR work to take their message directly to the American people that Sam would get a look but was not draft quality. Yet one team did burn a draft pick seeking positive business exposure. Sam was cut. Draft pick wasted.

Tebow's greatest success might be showing America how really down the road to hell her morals have gone.

One final comment. I loved to watch RG III play for Baylor as they are not far from us. He too a Heismen winner turned out to be a top NLF draft pick. There were some who said of him "he's a runner more than a passer" but that was not mentioned much. Some said he is a balanced QB but physically won't be able to handle the hits of NFL defenders. Yet after two injuries and so so seasons no one is saying much.

Whether you want to admit it or not, Tebow has a certain amount of baggage he brings with him to any NFL franchise. Legions of fanbois. And legions of others who don't like him, maybe because he's a virgin, maybe because he prays, whatever.

A QB of equal talent might have already found a club to call home, as you mention. But Tebow probably hasn't because he has all that baggage. And the NFL teams are going more in the direction of the Michael Sams than the Tim Tebows.

I'm not sure why you expect anything more of the NFL. Were you under the impression they are Christian-friendly? I never thought so.

Having legions of intense fanbois despite rather modest records does make them comparable.

Ever see how Teh Gheys drool on over Sam and obsess about him? I don't think that particular circus made him any more attractive to owners/coaches. They just don't want such a notorious young player. Admittedly, they did let Vicks come back after prison but he was money in the bank for his team, a proven major talent also with his own fanboi base.

Some kind of odd payback for killing the Jets? Great memory...Monday Night. Typical Tebow Time. 00.58 left on the clock.

He was good enough to beat a competent Jets team in 2011, but NOT good enough to QB their team in 2012 when it was clear that a Sanchez-led Jets team was a loser.

You got me utubing a bunch of Tebow's last minute winning drives. Good stuff.

So, according to you, a bunch of NFL teams would much rather lose than to have Tebow leading them to victory. Because they don't actually care about winning.

Absolutely the case. EVERY NFL team is making money hand over fist, regardless.

The collusion to blackball Tebow was more important...even more important than profit. The Left is more than willing to sacrifice profit (*cough MSNBC*) in exchange for advancing an agenda. In case you were wondering, the NFL has become a vehicle for political and social change. Tebow and his popularity were a deterrent to that goal.

I think that if they thought he could win, he'd be their #1 QB. But they don't so he isn't. Instead, he's #4 QB on a so-so team.

Depth charts mean nothing at this point. Frankly, I believe politics and the Left's agenda is going to dictate whether or not Tebow makes the team or plays -- NOT his skill level.

And Tebow and Sams are still very similar in that their fanbois drive all the coverage of them.

Uh, no.

The media's goon-squad of hitmen has driven the coverage of Tebow. ONLY to ridicule and marginalize him and his base of fans (of whom coincidentally are largely comprised of white Christians and/or God-centric people.) Btw -- how and why do you think "polarizing" became THE one word used by the media to describe Tim Tebow? We've noted the very same media phenomena and parallels in the coverage Palin. WE refer to what should be called, "Pavlov's Media Dog."

In Sam's case, there ARE no "fanbois" to speak of -- other than counting the MSM's fake, contrived, forced interest and non-stop gay promotion. His "fanboi" base is 3% of the population who buy Sam's jersey AND Leftist/gay-centric media(of an NFL team for which he failed to make, nor has ever played a single game.)

Tebow's retains "fanbois" for good reason -- his accomplishments are legend. His ethics and morals, and commitment to excellence and discipline are greatly admired.

OTOH, Michael Sam's has accomplished NOTHING. His main "accomplishment" is his admission that he is a sodomite. Yet is ridiculously promoted by a media committed to a queer wannabe contrived, non-existent "NFL career."

Yup. ALL of that. And yes, imagine that -- those who say Tebow is "no NFL QB" led his team to a playoff win. His first time at the big dance. Something it took the great renown QB Romo 8 years to do. Leading a team to a victory in an NFL playoff game is no small feat.

We might be belaboring the point, but if someone on "our side" is incapable of understanding and discerning the respective proper difference between Tim Tebow and Michael Sam -- as well as the coverage respective accomplishments and reason for admiration -- the extent of the media's saturation propaganda campaign is wildly successful. AND disheartening.

I'm hoping TC is just not a observer of sports. But it still gives pause to who is swallowing (no pun intended) the media's respective memes.

So, if Tebow raped some chick or slapped his girlfriend around on camera or ran a dogfighting ring, the NFL would finally love him?

Oddly phrased question.

If the Tebow (we know and love) did such things, the militant heathens, atheists, and moral relativists would be relieved that such a standard bearer had failed epically. The Leftist, pro-queer run media would LOVE Tebow were that the case. He'd be their hero.

So to answer you question, IMO, YES. The NFL would then not be compelled to blackball a "fallen" Tebow.

I don't think Tebow is that hated. I think his performance has not impressed the decision-makers. The same goes for Michael Sams.

Tebow IS "hated." By militant heathens, atheists, and moral relativists. And by envious "purists" and "experts" who can't explain Tebow's success by the numbers. Loved by everyone else. THAT scared the aforementioned detractors.

Again you've conflated Tebow and Sam as though they are part the same coin. It's not even close.

Most college ball players don't make it in the NFL. I don't see why Tebow (or Sam) are so different other than the religion or gaiety angle and their hordes of fanbois.

(Tebow's accomplishments are already documented: ACCORDING TO THE RECORD HE'S A WINNING NFL/COLLEGE QUARTERBACK.)

Michael Sam's claim to fame is that he's a loser, NOT NFL material, and a professional whining sodomite who wails that he's a "victim" of "homophobia."

Was it his son who helped straighten out the quality of players in Cowboy-land??

Rumor or legend has it that Jerry Jones had Johnny Manzel's 'card' in his hand to drop for the draft and his son took it out of his hand and put it away:)

There's hope for the Cowboys.

Good run down. Did not know they were looking at Petty...Good business decision to boot. Local boy 'down the road in Waco (Baylor), will sell more season tickets and gear.

But oh no, Bryce is a Christian and recently (2012) baptized. He better not genuflect on the field!

It's still a big "IF" on whether Tebow is given a fair chance. Coach Kelley seems to travel to the beat of his own drummer and seems immune to media criticism (which was also one of the fears of coaches in playing Tebow....

Evaluating Tebow is not easy. It is undeniable that he won games. He took a 1-4 Broncos team and turned them into must-watch football every Sunday. Love him or hate him, he put fans in the seats and brought viewers to the tube.

His passing was another story. He missed open receivers repeatedly. For 55 minutes. Then he threw dimes for 5 minutes. A good defense kept games close and helped Tebow. Tebow did not turn the ball over and helped the defense. You might say he won ugly, but he won.

For some interesting reading about Tebow's time training with Tom House, see the following lengthy article:

What is Chip Kelly doing by signing Tim Tebow?

APR 20, 5:42 pm

Mike Garafolo reports on Chip Kelly's possible reasons for signing Tim Tebow and Tebow's chances of actually making the team.

When I first saw colleague Jay Glazer's report Sunday that Chip Kelly's Philadelphia Eagles were about to sign Tim Tebow, I thought, This might break the Internet.

[...]

Before I started working on my book "The QB," I had no intention of writing anything about Tebow in there. However, one of the main characters in the book, Tom House, a former journeyman major league pitcher who has turned into the country's leading sports biomechanics guru, had been working with Tebow for months. Every day for hours. This was after Tebow had been released by the Patriots two years ago and Tom Brady, who has become a protege of House's, recommended the former Broncos QB see House at USC, where he has an office above the third base line.

[...]

The "fixing" of Tim Tebow, the quarterback, would take some three months. House's diagnosis of why Tebow was inaccurate all came back to timing issues with his body. Once they could get his body in sync, the mechanics were actually pretty easy to fix, the former major league pitcher said.

"He still does what he's always done with his throwing arm. We just fixed the front side and gave him a better posture to do it and made him time it better." Beyond that, House said Tebow learned why he would misfire whenever he did, which “The Professor” said was vital for anyone to be at their best.

"We allowed him to understand why the ball goes right or left, why the ball goes high or low and how to spin the ball and how to physically prepare from feet to fingertips and to take it out and make the dynamic movement work for you and not against you. Does the term muscle-head make sense? He muscled everything. He can muscle it when he needs it, but now he's got kinematic sequencing. He's muscled down for efficiency."

Another underlying problem that tied into Tebow's issues in the NFL that House ID'd: The former All-American quarterback had no confidence in his throwing ability.

"He didn't think he could make that throw, so he went to what he was confident in, and that was his legs," House said.

Tebow timing

How does a team that ranks second to last in passing yards with a QB who completes fewer than half his throws continue to win? Stephen J. Dubner has the answer.

Tebow Time

By Stephen J. Dubner

Tim Tebow led six fourth-quarter comebacks in his first 11 starts.

That, not surprisingly, is an NFL record. Also not surprising: It led to a full-fledged outbreak of Tebow Fever. As Tebow ran his record as the Broncos' starting quarterback to 7-1, it was hard to turn on the TV or pick up a magazine without catching a case of it. In this installment of "Football Freakonomics," we look at the numbers behind Tebow's remarkable surge.

We've all heard it: Tebow is not the kind of quarterback who looks good in practice. As it turns out, he doesn't look very good in the first three quarters of games either. Just how bad is he in the early going? In the first half of what ultimately became a Week 10 win against the Chiefs, Tebow missed all four of his attempted passes, making Denver the first team to take a lead into halftime without having a completion since the Packers did it against the Bears in 1994. (The quarterback in that game, by the way, was Brett Favre.)

As bad as Tebow has been in the first 45 minutes, the fourth quarter has plainly been Tebow Time. During his 7-1 run, his fourth-quarter passer rating was 111, third-best in the league. In the critical final five minutes of games, his passer rating was a whopping 124.5.

Interesting analysis.

We'll see if Tebow's new passing skills can help him climb over 3 other QB's to become the Eagles' #1 QB.

You sure mention the word "white" a lot. Like Tebow is the Great White Hope or something.

You didn't do the math. Assume it's only 2% of the population but that all of them are ready to line up and buy a Sams jersey and be his fanbois. That could make him the biggest player in the NFL by the time you toss in some guilty white libs desperate to support the latest gaiety. Except Sams doesn't have enough skills to make it in the NFL. He'll have a minor career as a gay sports icon, Dancing With The Idiots, Oprah's venues, write a book or two, maybe get an announcer job. If nothing else, he can do some porn.

NFL team owners are businessmen. So I understand them striving and dealing to get the best QB to lead their offense. However, I don't understand their bad business decisions with Tebow.

And some of them are so scared of negative media attention they draft players they wouldn't ordinarily draft just because the media thinks it would be a good thing, think the Rams and Sam.

Speaking of the Rams remember the schitt storm the media raised when Rush made it known he was thinking about buying into the Rams about 2 years ago? WOW did the MSM have a big hissy fit over that, dropped every card in the deck trying to make something stick.

Did not know they were looking at Petty...

They brought him in and interviewed him after his Pro Day about a month ago. Since he hasn't been running a pro offense in college it would take him a couple of years to get up to speed, just in time for Romo's retirement.

This was an excellent assessment and overview. Tebow made for "Must-see-TV." I was checking out the TV schedule for Bronco games.

That 55/5 minute observation is spot on. Tebow was brutal for too much of a typical game. But too so was your observation that he didn't hurt the team by turning the ball over; it did help the "D" which played as though it were on a mission. Yup, "winning ugly" was definitely the case (although the last 5 minutes of a Broncos game was the most exciting 5 minutes in sports that year.)

Mind-blowing stats. The overview on Tom House's recalibration of Tebow's mechanics as well as addressing Tebow's confidence problem -- good stuff. Be extremely fascinating to watch how he fares.
