We do have a lot of young pitchers getting hurt too.
And what's the cause too many pitches and not enough off season, bad mechanics, bad grips, bad mound??? Take you pick since I imagine most of them apply in one respect or another...
Let me see which pig "DON'T" I want to vote for, the one with or without lipstick??" Hmmmmm...
settling down for some split screen sports viewing . 1st Mets v Red Sox . Then around 6:00 watching the Travers Stakes from Saratoga . Then 7 PM the 'Snoopy Bowl ' between the Giants v Jest ,a warm up for their regular season match in December .The Yanks v Braves will be on at the same time . TV dinner tonight !
I didn't really know Al Arbour cause I only started watching hockey when the Stars started playing well in the 90s...
From the looks of the Stars roster they might be able to make some noise in the Western Conference this year... They looked good offensively last year but couldn't keep the "biscuit from going in the basket' on their end... They picked up another goalie in Antti Niemi, and 2 Dmen Johnny Oduya and a very promising minor league guy by the name of Stephen Johns... Hockey season is just right around the corner...

Heard about this briefly on the local news. No details until you link. Another horrible death at a sports complex. The article said this was not the first.
Worst that happened at a game I attended was someone getting first aid for getting hit on the arm with a foul ball. Personally, the worst for my family was a drunk dude in the upper decks of Shea Stadium who accidentally lost his big guzzler beer which fell to the Lodge level seats and on my mother way back in the late 70s. Papa redleghunter none to happy about that. As he should have been.
So MLB has this, the death at Rangers ballpark back in 2012 (which I believe still scars Josh Hamilton); the series of head injuries just this year at Boston and Detroit (other places too I believe).
Knowing MLB they will encourage clubs to put additional netting and extend the retaining rails for the higher decks.
The foul ball issue is preventable. If you are in a hot zone for foul balls then you should have someone who has a glove and be able to catch one. When I take the family to a game we always have a glove for each person. Even MRS redleghunter has one.

Yeah Banny used Tolly AGAIN last night. Dude had disc surgery a couple years ago. He needs a few days in a row off. Used 7 times in the last 9 games. He has 28 saves with 30 or so games left. Joe Nathan in 2012 had I believe 38 saves and that was a high mark second to Mariano Riveria.
Clear to me what they need to do. Starters have to go 7 full. If not bring in long reliever until the 8th then platoon Kela, Dyson and Deikman for 8th and 9th. I understand the two new relievers are Banny's secret weapon and he does not want a lot of exposure of them. But losing Tolly at this stage would be disastrous.

Did you watch the game last night and see what happened in the stands???
yes ,it happened when A Roid got up to pinch hit for Severino . The fans did their booing and the announcers mentioned that someone fell from the upper deck near their broadcasting booth . Alex got out of the batters box for a moment . But there was no delay in the game otherwise.

I went to a Rockland Boulders game with my daughter a couple years ago. As I recall it was a fathers day gift . She got us seats in the 1st row behind the home team dugout . The game started at sunset and our vision was hampered by it. She stretched her leg out on top of the dugout . Sure enough a whistling foul ball came our way . I guess I should be thankful because her leg interfered with a ball that had my name written all over it (that I did not see coming ) . She took it on the shin ;and it bounced into the outfield .
So I got to spend father's day in the emergency room . Luckily there was no break .....just what they call a deep bone contusion. I think she still has the indent on her leg.
Minutes after we arrived in the emergency room an ambulance pulled up and brought in a woman who had been struck by a shattered bat . I'm kinda leaning to the idea that additional protection should be provided. I don't see anyone giving up a seat behind home plate because they have to watch the game through netting . I don't see people at hockey arenas complaining because they have to watch the action behind a Plexiglas wall.
Knowing MLB they will encourage clubs to put additional netting and extend the retaining rails for the higher decks.
Yea I'm kinda surprised they haven't tried raising the railing in the 2-3 upper levels of each ballpark to some where in the neighborhood of 4.5-5' to prevent the drunks/idiots from hurting themselves. The problem with that is the first couple of rows the fans view would be obscured and they wouldn't like that. So I would say the railings will stay low for the foreseeable future...

Pullimg for the Toronto Blue Jays 'casue I want to see Tulo get a World Series ring. After that I don't GAS. The Rockies will likely stay in last place for the foreseaable future. How can a team with three current all stars and several close to be players have such a pitiful record? We stopped going the the games in protest not because of the ambiance of a sumeer's night at Coors Field.

I would imagine most of those guys are going to get today off...
Callups start Tuesday don't they, that's when you'll see some of these guys get some rest. That's if who they call up is effective and can get the opposition out...

Pulling for the Toronto Blue Jays 'cause I want to see Tulo get a World Series ring.
Well the Jays sure are doing pretty good right now on a roll that should carry them into the post season. Their offense is the best this year their pitching staff is middle of the road so I think they could stand a decent shot at winning it all...

OUCH! I remember you mentioning she was hit in the leg. Did not know that it bounced in the OF. Yikes!

Two years ago we had seats in the middle deck Lexus boxes at RBIA. Great view. So we were taking pics of the family with the field in the background. Had a couple of "event employees" tell me that they frowned on that but make sure an adult was near the kids.
It was one year after the fireman fell to his death.

Callups for the good players may be delayed. The Express is in the playoffs.
Holland pitched his 8th career complete game. It was a gem.

Looks like the BP got the day off Holland just finished a complete game shutout, now off to San Diego...
Yes indeed quite a gem by Holland. I think he has grown up a bit too. Their was about three instances he looked frustrated but took a deep breath and went on to focus on the next batter. In the past he let it sink in and more trouble ensued. So he is more mature now, at least on the mound:)
This was a good piece from even the naysayer Fraley:

As of this time......
SAN DIEGO -- The Rangers are planning to activate outfielder Josh Hamilton off the disabled list when rosters are expanded on Tuesday.
Catcher Carlos Corporan is also being activated off the disabled list. The Rangers are also calling up four players: third baseman Joey Gallo, outfielder Drew Stubbs and pitchers Luke Jackson and Ross Ohlendorf.

If only Lewis could pitch against the Yanks every outing ;-)
Naaah...don't fret; the 14-2 Nate Eovoldi just won a game giving up 5 in 5 inn. Your Rangers are still looking good for the WC -- if not the division.
You *could* always be the Yanks and struggle to score more than 3 run, yet score 20 run one night, then the next leave 14 mean on base and lose by a single run. That would have pulled the Yanks to withing a 1/2 game of the red hot Jays. NO Texeira, NO playoff run. A .140 A-Rod in the last month won't cut it either.
off to a good start . They then go to Boston . In theory this should be a good week
btw ;here is Didi's numbers for August .
.303 with 20 RBI and 13 runs scored.
He's getting better offensively and defensively, and should be a fixture at SS for a long time.
Didi is exceeding expectations after a lousy start. Quality person as well. We sure could have used a 5-5 last nite, eh? His last AB was...the Big One. There's goes your theory :-( The Bombers -- feast or famine (mostly famine) -- can they be any more un-clutch?? I knew 20 runs would be followed up by futility. Always is the case. Ellsbury and Bird...were brutal with RISP. W/O Tex or A-Rod, they can't do it. Gardner has cooled waaaay off.
Think they have to play Refsynder. Drew's occasional HR isn't enough in a lineup that lacks spark. Warren is NOT addapting to his pen role well, is he? BIG mistaken taking him out of the rotation, just as he was rolling.

That's the truth . But the team would've never permitted demoting CC to the pen.
The Jints...gonna be a tough year.
I suspect so ,but I can never tell with pre-season . My only interest in pre- season is that they come out of it injury free. Best guess is that they will have to score in the high 20s each week to be competitive .

Yesterday will be one of those games they look back on as a missed opportunity if they don't win the division. Just one hit with the bases loaded would've done the trick.

To the detriment...OF THE TEAM. (I thought this was a team-sport?)

IF they can manage to protect Eli's blind side. OR manage a running game. I see a lot of 34-31 games

Yup. just ONE key hit; But we can say that about 6 games within the last month :-( A most un-clutch team -- especially at the bottom of the lineup late & close. Gardner hasn't been able to get home a crucial guy from third and less than 2 out in...who knows how long. A-Rod has become A-Bum. Is he finished? Gotta feeling Tex is done; I believe he has a broken bone below his knee that won't heal. He needs hGH :-)

A-Rod has become A-Bum. Is he finished?
A-Roid has played 120 out of 130 games he should be down at 110 or fewer, he is 40 and doesn't have as much energy anymore. Girardi needs to learn how to handle the "oldsters" better, to keep them more productive...
I used to do Ironman tournaments where you would play 9-15 games over the course of 2-3 days, once I turned about 36 or 37 I said "ENOUGH OF THAT CRAP"...

You know I'm kinda surprised they are calling Joey back up when Alberto can play 3rd if need be... He's still striking out too much bta this is the last year of Beltre's contract, next year is optional...

Joey should be going to the fall league to get more at bats. Maybe they think working with Magadan at batting practice and being around veterans will be instructional.

FWIW, I went to a friend's last week in Virginia. We went to the Nats' game last Tuesday night where they beat the Padres 8 - 3. Saw a grand slam homer by Zimmerman. That was a rarity.
Also, saw a bald eagle at the lake where he lives. I think that was a first too.
I used to be a baseball fan when I was in my teens. Those Nats' fans are pretty rabid - keeping box scores and all - I'm sure it's the same at all stadiums.
Got a garden gnome freebie of Anthony Rendon. I donated it to a shelf at my local tavern. Those $9 and $10 beer prices should be criminal though.
They won the game last night but used 5 pitchers to do it. Am beginning to wonder if he realizes just how many relievers he has in the bullpen??
Banny used 5 pitchers but three of the moves were NL double switch deals and not many pitches tossed other than Tolleson who got in some hot water in the 9th.
He needs a rest. Don't know why they can't alternate Tolly with Kela and Dyson to close out the games. Tolleson is smoked. He can't get his good pitches to work the past three outings. Plus he was in a non-save situation with a 4 run lead. It should have been Kela out there.
Plus remember...Our BP is larger now:) Still waiting for Luke Jackson to pitch unless he snuck him in when I was not looking:)
If that was Wash last night, he would not have used the double switch and he would have kept the same reliever in until he got bombed and blew the game.
Banny is not afraid to pull the plug when it looks necessary. Probably why we are 7 games above .500 and not 7 below. Banny knows how to manage a NL bench and BP. He did it masterfully last night with the exception of bringing in Tolleson. No reason other than top of the order was coming up. But Kela has been blowing away top and middle order guys all season. Maybe he is keeping Kela fresh to make him the closer in the home stretch.
Now we just need the Yankees and Astros to lose 7 straight and the Rangers win 5-7 straight:)
Hamels on the mound tonight. He has a good record and ERA in that cavernous ballpark.
Kela's role as I see it is as the fireman that puts out the flames the starter couldn't, basically 6th and 7th innings. After that it is up to Dyson, Diekman and Tolleson.
To get Tolleson some rest they need to find someone to do Kela's job so he can take over Tolleson's job for a week. I do think Kela will eventually be the closer, maybe not this year but next.
