FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - One man is dead and four others in jail after an attempted home invasion in Fairborn Monday afternoon.

Police responded to the house at 1006 Victoria Avenue around 5 p.m.. after a neighbor heard gunshots called 911.

"The resident decided to fight back and shot two of the men," said Sergeant Paul Hicks, with the Fairborn Police Department.

Ta'Vaun Fambrough, 19, of Dayton died at Miami Valley Hospital from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Anthony Barwick, 20, of Dayton, was shot in the leg. He was treated and released into police custody. Barwick, along with London Norman, 23, Deron McGuire Jr., 23, and Tavaughn Lewis, 19, the other men police said were involved in the home invasion, are all being held in the Greene County Jail on charges of felony aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, and kidnapping.

Police said the men went to the house with the intent to rob the occupants. They said Barwick pointed a plastic gun at Trent Seitz and Christopher Muse. That's when investigators said Muse shot Barwick in the leg and Fambrough in the chest.

"Seitz and Muse have not been charged in the fatal shooting," said Sgt. Hicks, who is calling this incident, self-defense.

The case has brought to light the very controversial and hot topic of gun laws in our country.

"We have the right to protect our home," said Larry Moore, who is a Region Leader with the Buckeye Firearm's Association.

Moore said this incident is a prime example as to why gun ownership should remain legal.

"It's for self defense and its needed when we have people in society who will break laws and who would come into your home," said Moore.

Moore also referenced the Castle Law/Doctrine.

"You have a right to protect your home, your castle," said Moore. "I believe most people would agree with that right even those people who don't have guns in their home."

Mervin Law lives next door to the Victoria Avenue home and agrees with Moore's statements.

"I think everyone has the right to protect their home and family," said Law.

The four men in custody were arraigned Tuesday.

Ok, here's another one, from Detroit...

Martin Luther King Jr. High School coach shoots attackers

(WXYZ) - Police sources tell 7 Action News that a women's basketball coach from Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School shot two men who attacked him as he was walking two basketball players to their cars in the school parking lot.

Police sources say the coach was walking the two girls to their cars when two men allegedly approached and one pulled out a gun and grabbed him by his chain necklace. The coach then pulled out his gun and shot both of them, according to sources.

The man who shot the attackers was 70 years old, according to police.

One of the attackers was found dead in the median on Lafayette Boulevard, and the other was taken to a local hospital, according to police sources. We've learned that both of the men had attended the high school, and one had been recently expelled.

Police sources say the coach has a Concealed Pistol License and is reportedly a reserve police officer. They say he is fully cooperating with authorities.

Crime scene tape could be seen on Lafayette Boulevard and also around the back parking lot of the school near the gym.

Students could be seen being walked to their cars late Friday night.

The Detroit Public Schools issued this statement to 7 Action News: At approximately 7:30pm DPS Police responded to a call of attempted robbery at Martin Luther King Jr. High School. DPS Police are cooperating with DPD which is handling the lead investigation.

We are very relieved that all students and DPS personnel and representatives involved are safe and were unharmed. Preliminary reports are that shots were fired during an attempted robbery of a member of the coaching team of the school’s girls basketball program by two assailants outside the school. There was one fatality and one injured suspect in serious condition.

The school has many security features which were in place at the time of the incident as well as a full security plan as do all DPS schools. These will be reviewed as the regularly are after any incidents. There will be counselors available at the school Monday morning for students and faculty members.

I work part time at Indra's in Eugene, Oregon where I also have one of my desktops set up. Earlier this week, the open carry guy who comes in here walked by me and went into the restroom behind me.

A minute later we heard a loud gunshot and a scream from the loo. We yelled in asking him if he was OK and he answered, "Get an ambulance."

He had shot himself through the leg putting his old west style replica revolver. We put a tourniquet on his leg and he asked for us to hide his gun so the police would not take it.

I told him no way, that then the police would wonder if we shot him, create suspicion, and that that would be tampering with evidence.

He was taken off to the hospital with a serious leg injury. The bullet fortunately ricocheted and went through the roof.

He put a story on his facebook page the other day (he's out of the hospital) that he was home cleaning his gun when he accidently knocked ot off the table causing it to discharge.

We all wrote comments on it calling him a pathetic liar. He also wanted us to hide the gun so the cops wouldn't get it, which we of course refused.

Just what we would need, the cops asking who did this to him. His name is mud around here.

That was no place to practice quick draw technique in front of the mirror with a S&W Model 19 357 magnum in a leather holster with rifle rounds sewn to it to make the belt look cool.

That's not even useful. He probably had it cocked and caught the trigger on part of the holster putting it back in.

Why he would cock it, God only knows.
