Indiana First State to Allow Citizens to Shoot Law Enforcement Officers

Police officers in Indiana are upset over a new law allowing residents to use deadly force against public servants, including law enforcement officers, who unlawfully enter their homes. It was signed by Republican Governor Mitch Daniels in March.

The first of its kind in the United States, the law was adopted after the state Supreme Court went too far in one of its rulings last year, according to supporters. The case in question involved a man who assaulted an officer during a domestic violence call. The court ruled that there was “no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police officers.”

The National Rifle Association lobbied for the new law, arguing that the court decision had legalized police to commit unjustified entries.

Tim Downs, president of the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police, which opposed the legislation, said the law could open the way for people who are under the influence or emotionally distressed to attack officers in their homes.

“It’s just a recipe for disaster,” Downs told Bloomberg. “It just puts a bounty on our heads.” -Noel Brinkerhoff

Tim Downs, president of the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police.. “It’s just a recipe for disaster,”

But having a court rule that there was “no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police officers.” is just fine, right Tim?

I guess when you're on the side that's kicking in doors, having a court rule that us lowly citizens actually have no 4th amendment rights is juuuuust fine.

some text

"If men through fear, fraud or mistake, should in terms renounce and give up any essential natural right, the eternal law of reason and the great end of society, would absolutely vacate such renunciation; the right to freedom being the gift of God Almighty, it is not in the power of Man to alienate this gift, and voluntarily become a slave." i'm acutely involved in this as a reserve and fwiw this is the sad state of affairs that has really arisen by the rash of stupid and sometimes very lethal actions of non cautious police departments who allow more and more punk ass rambos to strap on a sam browne and "cowboy it up".

it's not a recipe for disaster mr downs.....what has been going on more and more with these rambo actions is proven already as the recipe for disaster.

there won't be any of these situations if mr downs and his type would do the due diligence to NOT make mistakes before putting civilians and officers lives at danger. and so this law is brought to bear solely by the mis-actions of mr downs type "peace officers" and as a result it will force them to think and evaluate clearly lest they face the view down the barrel that mr downs seems to think should be entirely one sided. And it will end the illegal no knock tactic they have slimeily worked into almost SOP.

GEEEEZZZZEEE this is just COMMON SENSE.
