good posts, both of you. you make some very astute points. there's one point that i think you're missing here and, that is, that many of us are disappointed again in what we see as a lack of honesty here not that we expected Ron Paul to be our saviour. i think all of us on 4um are more realistic than that. this is a repeat of 2008 when Ron Paul pulled out just before the Texas primary. we were led to believe that he had a delegate strategy. now with this, he's pulled the rug out from under all those who worked to become delegates and who planned to cast a vote for him at the convention. he pulled up short again and i am certain that that it was not a sudden decision.

imo, he and Rand both owe his many, many supporters an immediate explanation.

and one more thing...how is it after all the criticism of Romney heretofore can the Pauls suddenly do a 180 and endorse him (assuming Ron plans to also)? that to me is an abandonment of his principles.

Stonie is banned at 4UM. He is for Zionism and the undue influence they have in Washington, and this conflicts with the general sentiments at 4UM.

I'm a poster there and would ping her for him, but she has made it very plain he has a perma-ban, and that stepping in one of mad Dog's puppy poops is more pleasant an experience then conversing with him.

I'm afraid I'm on christines side with this issue, she pretty much nailed how I feel about Ron Paul.

If you have a rational explanation for his betrayal of those who trusted him, and why his son, Rand, would compromise his principles, lets hear it. Thanks!

The race is over. Only the delusional think Ron Paul can still win. He doesn't have the numbers.

It is Obama or Romney. Choose sides. One of those two definitely will be president. Romney isn't perfect or even close, but he has more in common with us then Obama ever will.

Choose sides

No, I won't, I have my own side!

That's the beauty of 'freedom of choice' in this country, stone, we don't have to choose the lessor of two evils because you think the most evil will win, that's your opinion, we all have them. I will vote for whomever I choose, I will not be nagged into voting your way, or any other persons way. jmho!

Their problem is with real christians.

The evangelical clergy almost swoon over Rand.

There was a stop-Romney meeting of all the big megachurch pastors and those with a big political following like Focus on the Family, back when Perry was still in the race. Sort of the Protestant's Last Stand (except Santorum was allowed in). The campaigns all sent representatives to this shindig. Ron Paul's guy didn't find much interest in Ron, some scattered positive remarks but no real support, but he reported that every single person they talked to spoke glowingly about Rand, how much they liked him, the way he spoke, the strong stands he takes, the way he speaks with a certain moral authority. He speaks their language, shares their concepts. Even the mild Kentucky accent appeals to them.

Think for a moment: if you could roll together a candidate that appealed to the Huckabee crowd and the Paulian Horde and you controlled the Iowa GOP, had strong party insider connections of New Hampshire (because no one faction controls the NH GOP), and then you had Jim DeMint backing you in South Carolina, wouldn't that make for a formidable campaign for the nomination? Add to that the many states where Ron Paul supporters have embedded themselves throughout the GOP state organizations, much as the evangelicals did back in the Nineties.

It could be formidable. You might even unseat a Prez Romney in 2016 if he has betrayed the conservative base.

Unlike Ron, Rand has no problems with the Religious Right. For one thing, Rand never says on national TV that heroin should be legal; that would be Ron. They respond warmly to him. It isn't just policy positions or personality; they recognize Rand shares their values, speaks their language, values what they value. He's someone they're very comfortable with supporting. Even while endorsing Romney, you see Rand building on this narrative, talking about being in large families, the values of family men, discussing policy very broadly within a family context. Very churchy in appeal and Rand pulls it off with perfect confidence and aplomb. This is why they like him so much.

The clergy just gobble that stuff up. And that is something that Ron, bless his heart, could never pull off.

Early Years. When Amulius found out about the twins, he ordered that they be thrown into the Tiber River to drown. The boys floated downstream, coming ashore near a sacred fig tree. A she-wolf and a woodpecker—creatures sacred to Mars—fed the twins and kept them alive until a shepherd found them. Faustulus, the shepherd, and his wife raised the boys.

Yeah, and they have the same corporations and bankers contributing to them.

They're twins! Like Romulus and Remus, raised by wolves and peckerwoods.

Any of you in a swing state where it will matter at all?

I can vote for Captain Crunch and my "vote" still goes to the Republican because he'd lose Utah if he lost my state.

As for "sending a message" with a write-in vote, you should understand that those are never reported unless the guy you're writing in has filed paperwork. Many states forbid any recording or reporting of write-ins.

However, you shouldn't leave blanks on the ballot either. Dishonest election workers could fill in their preference over your blank vote as long as they leave a few blanks in there so that the election reporting doesn't reveal they are stealing votes from those who don't vote a particular office on the ballot.

Actually, no. Oregon has not been a swing state since 2004 during the Kerry/Bush race.

This time I am going to do grass roots work for Congressman Peter DeFazio who has a nut ball of an opponent to deal with. That is how I deal with a frustrating presidential race, I move to what level i can stay involved in the process and effect the good i want to.

After all, I am a political animal and need to exercise my political efficacy.

In 2004 the Republicans paid to try to get Nader into the race in Oregon by instigating an initiative petition to get him on the ballot.

I was working as a custodian in a building owned by Portland Saturday Market as part of my duties doing set-up, tear down, and other support functions for the market that runs on the weekend most of the year.

I found proof of fraud by watching their workers, and because I had access to their garbage which the SCOTUS ruled is public domain once it enters the trash flow.

I spoke as the whistle blower at the press conference at the SEIU Union HQ during the announcement of an investigation into this. And it resulted in Nader being kept off the ballot, and of course Kerry carried oregon in November.

So that is an instance in which I had a direct impact locally in a national race.

Well, neither you or I am any more perfect than the next human being, so that is a given.

But in that case, she handled Stone's gambit to do what he wanted to do with that vanity thread. That is my point.

And I want Stone to rebut this directly which is a purpose to my post. I certainly don't tweak his beak any worse then he has done himself.

He can rebut the post, too and I will listen to and respond to his feedback.

But he can't 'command' me to do anything as he explicitly tried to do in a recent vanity thread header. That merely amuses me,

Your post is pointless and foolish. I belong to the Pacific Green party and have already been banned once from Democratic Underground once this election season for being too open about my support of Dr. Paul.

Bait your hook all you want, but it has no effect on me, Badlie.

The reason they have two presidential races in eight years instead of one is to give people a chance to rate how well someone is doing.

Whom I voted for last time is not in play for me this time around.
