I wouldn't expect anybody BUT a USN active or vet squid to know of it's proper use. I worked on boats. To be more precise, I was a nuclear electrician on a stretched 637-class (Sturgeon) submarine. We had 18-hour days. Six hours on watch, six hours doing PMs or quals, and 6 hours of sleep. This rotation would go for months at a time. The longest I ever went without seeing sunlight was nine months. We'd pull up to a tender to do a 90-day loadout on food, and return to patrol. We rarely visited foreign ports- nuke-powered vessels were not welcome in most other countries (though I did enjoy Holy Loch, Scotland). The cool thing, was that we saved a lot of money, while we were on deployment- the checks kept coming, but there wasn't any place to spend money, and gambling was simply not done.
