A boy who started the process of changing sex at age eight has told how he always knew he was meant to be a girl. Thomas Lobel, who now calls himself Tammy, is undergoing controversial hormone blocking treatment in Berkeley, California to stop him going through puberty as a boy. His two lesbian mothers, who adopted him aged two, say that they have been criticised by friends and family, but insist they have not forced their son to become a girl. Tammy, now 11, wears dresses and effectively lives as a girl. His parents, Pauline Moreno and Debra Lobel, say that their son, who they claim was depressed at a younger age and threatened to chop of his own penis, is now much happier. The couple were married in 1990 by a rabbi, according to Pauline's Facebook page, and have two older sons and grandchildren. Mother Pauline said Tammy was shy and unhappy as a boy when compared to her older, outgoing brothers Unlike his older brothers who are both described at outgoing and athletic, Thomas liked to read Wonder Woman comic books and play with dolls. He shunned baseball hats, preferring rhinestone hair accessories. At age seven, after threatening genital mutilation on himself, therapists and psychiatrists diagnosed Tammy with gender identity disorder. A year later his parents allowed him to start the first step of his transition to becoming female by letting him pick his own clothes and wear bras. Tammy favor headbands to baseball hats and picked out bras and dresses to start wearing when given choice in clothing to wear 'As soon as we let him put on a dress, his personality changed from a very sad kid who sat still, didn't do much of anything to a very happy little girl who was thrilled to be alive,' one mother Pauline told CNN. This summer, Tammy started taking hormone-blocking drugs, which will stop him from experiencing puberty. The hormone-suppressant will postpone the 11-year-old developing broad shoulders, deep voice and facial hair.The diagnosis has been hard to accept for Tammy's parents, but they insist their sexuality has nothing to do with it. As Pauline said, people think 'we're pushing her to do this. I'm a lesbian. My partner is a lesbian. That suddenly falls into the fold: "Oh, you want her to be part of the lifestyle you guys live".' Unhappy: Tammy was adopted aged two by Debra Lobel and Pauline Moreno But they insist that is not the case and the decision has been difficult. His parents say the hormone treatment will give him time to figure out if he wants to fully transition to being female or go through puberty as a boy. If he chooses to stop taking the drugs, he will undergo natural male puberty at a later stage and his future fertility would not be impacted. Should he decide to transition to an adult female, he can take female hormones as well, which would raise his voice, grow breasts and develop other feminine physical characteristics. Pauline and Debra have been married since 1990, when they were joined in a commitment ceremony by their rabbi San Francisco, right by Berkeley, is one of four cities in the United States with a hospital that has a program for transgender children. The University of California San Francisco is home to the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health. Children are seen at length by mental health professionals and then treated by pediatric endocrinologists. Others cities with youth programs are Boston, Seattle and Los Angeles. You have the root of his problem; an addiction to hatred. Stone has dehumanized in his mind anyone who doesn't love in the party line of his version of religion. Even someone who is beyond any doubt a conservative, if you refuse to dehumanize someone he hates like they were a demon and a different species. He is hard to put up with. I feel sorry for him, but that only goes so far. I have pretty much had enough of his crap. If people like yo were not here, I wouldn't be here anymore at all. He did the same crap in 4UM he does here, but he can't play respectful or nice, so he gets banned most places because he is so hard to tolerate. If he didn't have his own pop stand here, the poor tyke would be virtually without a forum to go to. When I was a little boy, I loathed black people and fat people like they were the devil incarnate. I remember one horrible occasion where I made a cafeteria wide scene crying and pouting because I was forced to sit next to a very overweight girl. Yiu see, I was reflexting my Mom's disease of bigotry and hatred. When I got older I started reading books by Richard Wright, John Howard Griffin, and many other accounts of people who triumphed over the hatred of bigotry and I healed. There is one man I can never get his face out of my head from my Army days. He was a friend who worked in PAC and was one of those typewriter commandos who actually went the extra mile to searve people well who needed administration actions, record and other work done. He had been promoted ahead of his peers and I got to kow him well enough to be invited over to his trailer in Raeford, N.C. It was eye opening to have a group of friends like that who helped distroy my last remaning bigotry toward homosexual people. No one in his circle who were gay ever went beyond checking where my head was at and my sexuality was very much respected. I came to realize my dislike of gays was also an affactation. It remained long after I should of known better then to hate because like other hetreosexual boys and men, I absolutely did not want any harrassment or mistake made about my sexuality. I lreaned my hatred was based on my fear of the people who viewed themselves as the enforcer of homophobia. Once I learned homosexuals were no different then other folks, I no longer feared or hated a sexual imprinting of their's that affects no one adversely. I no longer hare who speeps with who as long as they are consenting, and not related biologically too close. He was outted by someone who picked the lock on his personal briefcase and eavesdropped on personal mail he had in it from his boyfriend. I remember seeing him after he was forced to move back into the barracks, was busted to E-1 and was bullied unmercify by the baiters and haters with mindsets like stone. He didn't deserve what he got, and it made a huge impression on me. Which is why when the idiot here tried to bait me as possiblt being gay or whatever, I ignore him knowing he's responsible to handle his own hatred, and it can't infect me or hurt me anymore. Now the only time I hate a gay guy or lesbian is if they steal, lie, or are a general scoundrel and SOB anyway. If they function well in society, have a good job and care about their community at large, then what they do in their own bedroom does not bother me in the least. Whom they love ain't my affair or business. Stone can keep on using his religion as an excuse, but he does not fool me. His hatred and intolerence is a disease that has no real standing even in the Christian faith. And one can be conservative and gay or lesbian or not bigotted against them. Maybe he'll wake up and realize this one day. I sure hope so, but I'm sure glad I don't have to put up with the SOB live and in person in my home city.

No doubt you would fit into the Bethel District or north Eugene very well. We are large enough a city now no one demographic holds the other hostage. I live in the Whiteaker District where the mayor Kitty Percy resides as well. I would say that the Whit does have an epic number of Lesbian couples, but that is merely the testament to hatred an enclave's members took refuge from. And if this is a 'ghetto,' more parts of the U.S. should be one too. Kids are well loved and protected in the most liberal part of Eugene, homes look great, the people are friendly and there are a lot of really sharp and well educated folks in my neck of the woods. I don't know. I have never met them. I've encountered more hetero assholes than I do gay or lesbian. One of my life long friends is gay and I helped him reconcile with his dad 10 years after he came out to him and got disowned. I'm not sure that I have ever met anyone transgendered. Suspected and s/he was a decent sort. Plain and simple,this kid is a sexual political statement by two radical leftist lesbians that hate men.
