34% say country would be better off under Hillary Clinton: poll By Kase Wickman More than a third of Americans said that if Hillary Clinton had been elected president in 2008, the country would be in better shape than it is right now under President Barack Obama's leadership. The Bloomberg poll showed that Clinton, currently serving as secretary of state, garnered a 64 percent favorability rating, making her the most popular national politician in the country. Thirty-four percent expressed wishful thinking about a Clinton presidency, up from the 25 percent who responded the same in July 2010. In the 2008 election, Obama won the majority of delegates necessary to clinch the Democratic nomination after the primaries. During the drawn-out primary battle, Clinton actually won the popular vote, though Obama won 29 states to her 21. Only 13 percent of respondents said that things would be worse under a Clinton White House. It's not just Democrats expressing buyers' remorse either: 39 percent of Republicans said that Clinton would run the country better than Obama has. “Some of her appeal is that she is not Barack Obama,” said J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., the group that conducted poll. No matter what the public's opinion of her, any wishful thinking will remain a fantasy. “It’s below zero,” Clinton told CNN when asked about the chance of her challenging Obama in 2012. “One of the great things about being secretary of state is I am out of politics. I am not interested in being drawn back into it by anybody.”

For instance, the Navy Nurses were housed at the House of Hospitality and the California Building, Fine Arts Gallery and the Natural History Museum were converted into hospital wards. The Lily Pond was used for swim training, the Japanese Tea Garden as a Red Cross Servicemen's Center, the House of Pacific Relations as officers' quarters and the Palisades as a Hospital Corps School named Camp Kidd. The Balboa Complex, to include the main Naval Hospital, treated approximately 172,000 patients with a maximum occupancy of 12,000 in December, 1944. In 1946 the Balboa Park grounds and buildings were returned to the city.[3] The greatest Naval Hospital expansion in Balboa Park began after the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. The hospital went from 56 buildings with a bed capacity of 1,424 in 1941 to 241 buildings covering 247 acres with a bed capacity of 10,499 in 1945. The complex included 33 acres in the Prado and Palisades sections of Balboa Park and a convalescent branch at Rancho Santa Fe, located 30 miles from the main plant. The Navy used the California Building, Fine Arts Gallery and Natural History Museum as hospital wards, the House of Hospitality as a nurses' dormitory, the Japanese tea garden as a Red Cross Servicemen's Center, the lily pond as a swimming pool, and the House of Pacific Relations as officers' quarters. A Hospital Corps School, known as Camp Kidd, occupied the Palisades. The Naval Hospital interdenominational chapel was dedicated in January 1945 on land the Navy had leased from the city in 1937 for recreation. At that time, Captain Fred E. Porter, commandant of the hospital, had promised no buildings would be placed there. During World War II, the hospital treated approximately 172,000 patients. On December 27, 1944, patient counts rose to more than 12,000. In June 1946 the hospital corps vacated its quarters at Camp Kidd and moved back to the main hospital grounds. In 1945, during its peak wartime enrollment, it had 3,400 students. The Navy did not finally vacate the buildings along El Prado until 1948. LOCATION: The Camp Kidd Naval Training Station was located on the Palisades area of the City of San Diego's Balboa Park, adjacent to the downtown area of San Diego, California. SITE HISTORY: On 10 December 1941, the Navy acquired 33 acres of the Palisades area of the City of San Diego's Balboa Park. The Camp Kidd Naval Training Station was named in honor of Admiral Issac C. Kidd, who died at Pearl Harbor 7 December 1941. The Navy used Camp Kidd Naval Training Station as a Naval Hospital Corps School (Camp Kidd was designated as Unit 3 of the existing San Diego Naval Hospital and School). Over the 5 years (1941-1945) that the United States participated in World War II, Camp Kidd provided medical, dental, and hygienic training and support to Navy personnel. In addition, housing facilities (five barracks), a dispensary, and recreational facilities were provided. Facilities maintenance and ship service support activities were also conducted at Camp Kidd. After 1945, the Camp Kidd Naval Training Station area was converted to a post-war Naval recreational services center, and was subsequently transferred back to the City of San Diego in the latter half of 1946. The area is currently managed by the City of San Diego's Parks and Recreation Department as part of the present day Balboa Park. Twenty-four (24) buildings once used by the Navy currently exist in the Palisades area of the park. They have all been used beneficially by the City of San Diego. Upon graduation, Kidd received his orders to Naval Hospital Okinawa, in Japan. Once his rotation was complete, he moved to Camp Lejeune, NC. While at Camp Lejeune, Kidd was attached to a Marine Corps command, and deployed to Iraq in 2007. After he returned from Iraq, his daughter was born in January of 2009, and he was deployed again in May of 2009 as part of the 22D Marine Expeditionary Unit ...
