On Sept. 20, the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy banning gays from serving openly will be stripped from the military’s rulebook. For gay Marines, official repeal will be a historic day, comparable to the moment 63 years ago when President Truman ordered the services to end racial segregation.
For straight Marines, this will bring changes, too. “That’s gay” — a pervasive phrase used throughout the Corps to express dislike for almost anything — will no longer be tolerated. Equal treatment will be a must. And yes, some gay Marines will bring dates to the Marine Corps Birthday Ball in November.
With the end of “don’t ask” just days away, this week’s cover story includes the stories of several gay Marines who wanted to share their views on repeal and the future of the Marine Corps. Gay Marines interviewed for the story include:
– A corporal in the infantry, based at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
– A major at Quantico, Va.
– An infantry officer and company commander at Pendleton.
– A former enlisted Marine now enrolled at the Naval Academy
– And a field grade officer in California
Hear what they have to say about the end of “don’t ask,” don’t tell” in this week’s edition of Marine Corps Times, on newsstands now.

Their actions when they came out of the closet the first time is what brought about DADT.... An example mof this not being so is when General Eisenhower dictated a memo to be posted at his headquarters in England in WW II that he had come to find out some of the women working there were lesbian. Those women reacted by revealing to him how shockingly many of them were lesbian and he could see how he would cripple his staff by removing so many talented, and well functioning staff members over such a triviality. He wisely filed the notice asking for information in the circular file that is a waste can. I'll type it in from the historical source with citation if you are interested to read about this. It is documented in the book, 'My Country, My right to Serve.' The reason homosexuality was 'decriminalized'n the DMS in 1972 and by oganizations such as the American Psychiatric Society is because sexual preference is a personal trait no more notable about another individual then if they had blue eyes instead brown ones. Homosexuals are as well adjusted and functional as heterosexual folks like you, stone or myself. Getting rid of DADT does not change the reality that homosexuals are and have always been in the military. It just means a stop to the waste from throwing out well trained and talented people, and stopping the practice of making their lives miserable because of the hate and ignorance of people who were taught to hate them and use them as scapegoats.

And putting DADT into place in the first place didn't change that reality either... It was more to save them from themselves.... The military (at least at the bases I served at) didn't go around actively hunting down gays and kicking them out.... They only kicked the ones out that wouldn't go back into the closet, and those that participated in illegal activities concerning bribing Assignment Personnel into giving them "special" assignments... I had 2 of them in my shops during my time in the military and they were good workers, I had no "discipline" problems with them whatsoever on duty. But they let their "extracurricular activities" (off duty) rule their lives and that is what got them booted, not what they did at work.... One of them was constantly participating in Gays Rights Parades/Protests and the other got caught in a "supposed" prostitution raid at a titty bar... They were both Lesbians...... Now some people might think this is unfair, but when you sign on the dotted line to be in the military you are not allowed to participate in activities that portray the Military in a negative light or disrupt discipline... If you do so you will face Judicial or NonJudicial punishment actions being pursued against you... The big problem with repealing DADT is that you are now going to have military personnel openly portraying the Military in a negative light and disrupting discipline.... On top of that they will be trying to "FORCE" straight military personnel (and DOD civilians) to be tolerant of behavior that many of them still consider to be deviant..... So like I said before, good luck with repealing DADT but it won't last long..... People are getting tired of seeing the gays flaunting their "lack of good judgement", and demanding special treatment because they can't make good decisions.....

We Trinitarian Universalists never said there isn't ANY punishment for post mortum unforgiven sin. The Trinitarian Universalist belief is that the choice for salvation continues post mortum and any post mortum punishment ends when a person accepts Jesus Christ as his personal savior post mortum. However we don't believe in torture as a post mortum punishment in any case, even on a temporary basis. After all this is a loving God we are talking about here not an Omnipotent, Omnipresent Adolph Hitler, George W. Bush or Dick Cheney. Also much of what is written in the Bible is symbolic of something else. The "Lake of Fire" is merely a symbol of the nature of the people with unforgiven sin post mortum and NOT a literal instrument of eternal torture.
