Title: Bachmann: Americans Fear ‘The Rise Of The Soviet Union’

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann said Thursday that Americans are alarmed that President Barack Obama may cut defense spending at a time when the Soviet Union is becoming a power in the world.

“When you are traveling — I know you are in South Carolina now, you’re obviously in Iowa, you’re up in New Hampshire — are you hearing different things in these states?” Christian radio host Jay Sekulow asked the candidate.

“I would say it’s a unified message,” Bachmann explained. “It really is about jobs and the economy. That doesn’t mean people haven’t [sic] forgotten about protecting life and marriage and the sanctity of the family. People are very concerned about that as well.”

“But what people recognize is that there’s a fear that the United States is in an unstoppable decline. They see the rise of China, the rise of India, the rise of the Soviet Union and our loss militarily going forward. And especially with this very bad debt ceiling bill, what we have done is given a favor to President Obama and the first thing he’ll whack is five hundred billion out of the military defense at a time when we’re fighting three wars. People recognize that.”

This audio is from the Jay Sekulow Live!, recorded Aug 18, 2011.

The rise of the Soviet Union>??????? Was this interview from 1955?

With the economy still in the dumper -- maybe permanently? -- and full-time jobs becoming as scarce as rain during a drought, huge percentages of Americans have had their (misplaced) faith in the American dream shaken, the upper-middle-class consumerist lifestyle is exposed as a mirage for anybody who plays by the rules. Capitalism and the America that embraced it as a way of life is now and forever more a failure. It does me good to know that the generation that voted in Reagan and his ideology will see their America die from that ideology before their very own eyes and knowing they had a hand in its destruction.

What the hell is wrong with our system? Why do candidates make these blunders that even a 5th grader woulnd't make?

Whether it's Obama campaigning in 57 states, or Bachmann talking about the Soviet Union, I cannot understand how someone at this level of pursuiing the highest office in the land is so unprepared.

I think we'd do better if we just drew people's names out of a hat. (We certainly couldn't do any worse.)

It's pretty funny watching you GOP groupies defend or attempt to distract attention from the stupid comments being made by your party's front runners.

It may be because they don't know why they're stupid.

I thought it was really funny how he criticizes you for daring to have an opinion, then in the next post totally agrees with that so called 'Demo talking point' that he accused you of expressing.

I'll give Skip this much - at least he HAS an opinion (wrong headed as it is)

You? You remind me of the skit on the old Carol Burnett Show - "Mama's Family"

You're Mama - continually pissed off about everything, adding nothing to a discussion, and probably making everyone who has the misfortune to be around you miserable.

or Bachmann talking about the Soviet Union, I cannot understand how someone at this level of pursuiing the highest office in the land is so unprepared.

I know the fundamentalist Protestants till this day raise money - have these huge prayer sessions, etc around the notion that they are smuggling bibles still into the "USSR/Russia/Former Soviet Union" even though the holy books are no longer banned in Russia.

The atheist USSR was a big part of the Fundie Christian American mythology - the dragon they could easily identify to be slain that they (and comedian Yakov Smirnoff) never got over the fall of the USSR - it was a heck of a money raiser.

Till this day on Freerepublic they refer to Russia as communist and to Putin as "Stalin" or words to that effect - and make a big deal about their Gog and Magog fantasies linked to Russia and the end times.

So my guess is because Bachmann is from the nutso Christian side of the Republican family she just continues to see the USSR as being there. Cognitive Dissonance on a historic scale.

Imagine that! Trying to help those living in a totalitarian society.

It would have made more sense if they had just declared them heretics and called for them to be burned at the stake.

Wow - you on the insane Left have something in common with "fundie" Christians. You have never gotten over the fall of the USSR, either.

Till this day on Freerepublic they refer to Russia as communist and to Putin as "Stalin" or words to that effect - and make a big deal about their Gog and Magog fantasies linked to Russia and the end times.
Why would anyone care what JimRob and his FR echo chamber have to say about anything?

I will agree with you that Bachmann seems to have a severe case of "foot-in-mouth" disease.

Since she is from the GOP division of the Dempublican party, it will probably prove fatal to her candidacy.

Yet you didn't disagree with my assessment just ridiculed it. You just proved I add quite a bit to the discussions here, by your efforts to minimize it.

Now you're starting to act like that old drunken lech on LP...Beyond the Sea.

You just put your foot in your own mouth - I was not talking about past efforts during the Cold War to smuggle bibles into the USSR.

I am talking about these fundie Christians still pretending (yes pretending) to smuggle in bibles to modern day Russia.

So unless you misread my statement you are calling modern day Russia "totalitarian". Russia may be many bad things these days but it is not a totalitarian state.

Nope. Go back and re-read #15

Here - I'll help you out:

Imagine that! Trying to help those living in a totalitarian society.

It would have made more sense if they had just declared them heretics and called for them to be burned at the stake.

Now, had I thought that the efforts were still going on, I would not have used the past tense. The sentence would have read as follows:
Imagine that! Trying to help those living in a totalitarian society.

It would make more sense if they just declared them heretics and called for them to be burned at the stake.

See how that works?

Here is a website http://www.biblesforrussia.org/china.htm which is now exclusively sending bibles to China for a small fee.

What I find funny is that they did not change their website's domain name.

Bibles For China is a ministry that was originally started just a little over ten years ago by David McCroskey, son of Alfred and Jean McCroskey. David was at that time working in the offices of Bibles For Russia and believes God was placing a burden on his heart for the Chinese people. Alfred and Jean prayed with their son and in 1994 two trips were taken to China and thousands of Bibles delivered into the hands of Chinese Christians as a result.

LOL! PS: Bibles are easily available to the Chinese - in book form or online. The only hang up the Chinese have with religion these days is if it gets political. They don't care beyond that.
