THOSE WONDERFUL TEACHER'S UNIONS By Neal Boortz @ March 14, 2011 9:17 AM Permalink

The government employee unions lost in Wisconsin. Thankfully that largely includes a loss for the teachers union in Wisconsin. Why do I say thankfully? Because the less power that these teachers unions have, the better. Now I can only partially blame them for asserting their power; you parents who send your children to these people to be educated deserve some of the blame as well. You willingly submit the most precious thing in your life - your child - to these people every day and expect your child to become a competent, well-educated, hard-working individual. But it's hard to imagine how that could be accomplished when these teachers unions care only about one thing: power. And they know they have power, and they admit they have this power.

Now let's try to remember what those teachers unions were fighting for in Wisconsin, shall we? They were fighting for our children, right? Somehow our children were going to be denied a good education of that evil, Hitler-like governor of Wisconsin succeeded in taking away the teacher's collective bargaining right. Isn't that the way it worked?

Now if you believe that nonsense that was being spouted by the teachers unions - if you believe that this is all about your precious children -- perhaps you might take the time to listen to something said by "Bob Chanin, General Counsel to the National Education Association. This comment was maid at his farewell address to the NEA convention last summer --- last summer, before Governor Scott Walker's move in Wisconsin.

Here are the words of Mr. Chanin. If you listen to the program today you'll hear them as he spoke them.

"Despite what some among us would like to believe it is not because of our creative ideas; it is not because of the merit of our positions; it is not because we care about children; More.. and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child".

"The NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power. And we have power because there are more than 8/2 million people that are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year because they believe that we are the union that can most effectively represent them".

There. NOW how do you feel about protecting these wonderful teachers unions? Aren't they just amazing? As if Mr. Chanin wasn't enough, please remember Albert Shanker, a past-president of the American Federation of Teachers. After an AFT convention someone asked Shanker why all the emphasis on teachers and so little emphasis on the children at the convention. He replied .... "He would start paying attention to the children when they could vote in union elections".

Did you send your child off this morning to be educated in a government union school? Don't worry, I'm sure it's going to be just fine. It's the other schools that have these self-involved union teachers .... certainly not your child's government school. So .. no need to worry I'm sure.

Capitalists tell us all we should crave is money. Unless you want teachers to do this out of a sense of calling like Christian monks a so called libertarian capitalist like Boortz should know that you should pay teachers to get better results. Less money means less motivation. Ah, but Boortz is just doing damage control for his GOP paymasters and nothing more......

So I guess you didn't read the 2 parts where the teachers unions "stated" that "It isn't about the children, it's all about us"!!!!!

Isn't taking from one (taxpayers) and giving to someone useless (teachers) a Communist ideal!!!!!

Just do their jobs and be accountable for what they are/aren't teaching the children. Since they aren't doing any teaching its time for them to go.....

I am all for firing all teachers and opening the positions up at 200K salary - which means more taxes........

You up for that? Because your formula - fire teachers hire lower paid teachers does not seem to be viable.

Why not???? I'll bet there are a whole lot of unemployed/laid off teachers out there that just want a decent job instead of living on welfare...... They would love to have a job where they don't have to pay outrageous union dues to a bunch of political douchebags......

But then again someone in your position wouldn't know about that..... would they!!!!!

Did I mention "fairness" in any way, nimrod?

I said according to the Adam Smith concept of enlightened self interest - paying people less money will not produce better results.

In other words if you pay teachers more money - coupled with a performance evaluation - according to this theory - you will get a better result. That is right wing dogma since I was a kid.

Now you right wingers raised on Rush Limbough idiocy want to lower teachers pay and expect better results in education?

Any attempt to better education in America will have to increase the pay of teachers to attract the brightest and the best and keep them. Sure, I am all for throwing in a performace test to see you get effective teaching results. Bonuses for good work, etc. BUT ALL THAT WILL REQUIRE MORE TAX MONEY.

I am waiting for the right wing plan which will both cut teacher pay and improve teaching performance......

You guys live in an echo chamber. How will you attract good teachers if you don't pay them well enough? Why do you avoid this fact? How will you get teachers without paying them more money which requires increasing taxes - or if no tax increase then shifting tax revenue from other programs to increase their pay?

You idiots keep harping that the teachers in America suck and they should be all fired. OK - what do you replace them with? Teachers who are paid even less??????

Answer that, kooks.

You guys - bottom line - don't want to increase taxes for education nor do you want to pay teachers more money (even if teachers were new and unionized). So what's your solution to attracting good teachers??????????

Greed is good unless you are a teacher then it's expected to be a calling with the teacher paying out of pocket for their student's supplies too. My SIL spent almost 5 thousand dollars last year doing just that.

The Feds are pretty reluctant to allow it as a tax deduction too. Because the school districts don't want to count it as income since they want be able to apply to the State/Fed for more money for programs etc. As usual responsibility over other bodies or money management is paying way more than skills and actual acheivement of the baseline goals and purpose of the entity. In private and in public sectors generally the only one's making a decent, comfortable living are the managers.

The solution is simple. Figure out how much it costs on average to educate each student. Close all the govt schools down in an organized manner, starting with the worse schools first.

Give everyone a voucher to send their kids to any school that they choose.

I already send my kids to private school. It isn't easy and I am nowhere close to rich.

You are so fixated on how much "more" money the teachers have to make than the people paying their salaries. The world doesn't rotate in the ass of a select few so get over it.....(I know, I know thats what the Democrats think....isn't it)? They are overpaid and "some" have no morals, they proved that at the capital. (along with a few doctors being paid by the union to hand out phony doctors excuses)......

I know some people in this country don't mind what BS their children are being taught. (they just want to get rid of them for the day... sound familiar). But most parents care about their children and want the best for them. So if this means getting rid of overpaid teachers that have no morals then so be it. Don't let the door hit you in the ass.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe if these children had more morals that maybe they wouldn't be doing so bad in school????? Probably not!!!!!

P.S.- The State of Wisconsin has laws saying the Governor has to balance the budget, that is just the way he chose to start accomplishing that.....

So where are all those private schools they will attend? The ones in my area are pretty well filled up.

And it's very expensive here to just build a school and hope they will come. Of course the tuition will be higher for students for the newly built school as the overhead will be much higher. And not paying it directly is tantamount to that dastardly socialist model we must avoid at all costs.

I read your rant and it sounds like Archie Bunker era BS. How will you educate children for the 21st century by attracting teachers by paying them less money?

What bright eyes MIT graduate or Yale or Harvard grad will want to become a teacher with a current teacher's salary?

Even if we meet every certification hurdle you kooks come up with at the end of the day you don't want to pay as a right wing kook more money to any teachers. In fact, you right wing kooks hate public education on any level because the public schools tend to not teach what the right wing cult teaches like creationism and Old Testament values. That is the real issue here.

Countries like Finland insist that their teachers not only be competent, but quite competent, finishing at near the top of their graduating classes.

Our public school teachers are largely incompetent dumbasses protected by the union, who would have difficulty working the registers at Burger King if they had to get other jobs.

Now, I know I’m not going to change the minds of any of the True Believers…those who read all of Reverend Al’s sermons, and say things like, “You know, global warming can mean warmer OR colder, wetter OR drier, cloudier OR sunnier, windier OR calmer, …”. Can I get an ‘amen’??

But that requires more tax money to raise salaries and you so called right wingers are against that. So who are you kidding?

The US spends $12,600 per pupil year. That's more than $250k per class of 20. Many private day schools cost considerably less. There is simply no way this is not enough money if spent even rudimentary well, especially as most public schools don't even pay rent.

That's because you have 50 states each with its own school system each buying separate text books that vary based on regional prejudices like not making the Confederacy look bad, etc.

In the rest of the educated world there is one dept of education, teachers are employees of the federal state and text books and lessons are standardized as are salaries, etc.

I thought they set their sights lower than that, I thought they all wanted to be politicians or Liberals.......

Why do the teachers have to be paid so much money to fail, why is that???? You think if they make any less that they will be totally incompetant. Hello McFly they already are incompetant....... Some parents are home schooling their kids for "FREE" and are doing a much better job than the union teachers.... so how the hell do you explain that???????

In fact I know a group of people that "over" pay their employees so bad that they are slowly going out of business.... Do you know who they are?????? Think real hard.....

I'll give you a hint: Dumbo the Elephant had to bail them out......

Another hint: They used to have 100% of the market share and it's down to what now 50-60%........

Need another hint: they're unionized........

Need another hint: They've sent a lot of jobs out of this country at the expense of their union employees..... (Paco in Mexico is making out fine)...

Another hint: Some of their ex-employees don't have a pension anymore..... (Tyrone in Detroit is on welfare now)

Enough hints???

Sound familiar????

Or do I need to come right out and say who it is????

Greed is good unless you are a teacher then it's expected to be a calling with the teacher paying out of pocket for their student's supplies too. My SIL spent almost 5 thousand dollars last year doing just that.

$5,000.00 on what exactly?

So where are all those private schools they will attend? The ones in my area are pretty well filled up.

That's a fair indicator that the public schools in your area aren't worth shit.

which requires increasing taxes - or if no tax increase then shifting tax revenue from other programs to increase their pay?

Fuck off liberal. At first you claim the only way was tax increases, and only after being called on it, you now bring up "shifting tax revenue".

You're a fucking progressive, using our children (who you don't give a fuck about) as a lever to get tax increases.

GFY.

You're a fraud.

So what's your solution to attracting ... teachers??????????

A Margarita, and a 12 inch Wang. Works on either female or male.

And foreign exchange students Wang (a foot tall little person from China) and Margarita (from drug-war torn Mexico) agree with me wholeheartedly.

You must be another oil company toady like your friend yukon. I'll ask her to itemize her list and I'll send you'all a copy. LOLOL

But off the top of my head books and a field trip for students with those of several other teachers were part of it. I guess five thousand dollars must be a whole wad of money in your parts heh?

Oh that's 'a bad' on my part, and since it probably would buy you a couple of years worth of TV dinners in your area, I shouldn't make fun of you.
