Title: GOP Rout May Be Great News —for Obama

(Newser) – If even the worst Democratic fears play out next month and they wind up losing both the House and Senate, Eugene Robinson sees a bright silver lining for the party. Conservatives and Tea Party activists will suddenly find themselves in government instead of in the peanut gallery, and our "tidal" politics will begin drifting against them. If they work with President Obama, they'll be seen as traitors.

"I expect obstruction," writes Robinson in the Washington Post. "That would be bad for the country, but it would be a gift to a White House seeking to regain its political footing. Every time Obama reached out to Capitol Hill and had his hand slapped away, more independents—frustrated with partisanship and inaction—would drift back into his column. He'd be well positioned for 2012." Subscribe to *Elections 2010*

I completely agree with this.

If Obama and Pelosi were left in charge until 2012, the Democrat Party would be ruined for an entire generation, much as the GOP was ruined for an entire generation after Herbert Hoover.

If the GOP takes control of the House, then Obama's destiny in 2012 is completely dependent on his ability to be reasonable and rational, like Clinton.

I have my doubts on Obama's willingness and ability to be reasonable and rational. Obama is no Clinton.

Not concerned about the people.

We know.

The difference I see between now and the Clinton-era is that he had a mostly 'sane' congress to work with.

President Obama isn't going to have the luxury if the trending polls continue.

mmm...

Clinton dealt with a strong Congress led by Newt Gingrich, Dick Armey, Bill Archer, and John Kasich. The Democrats thought they were nuts and they weren't.

The Democrats (and many Republicans) also thought that Reagan was nuts during the 1980 primaries. Of course this wasn't true.

The difference today is that the GOP has no leadership. It's hard to claim the GOP leadership is nuts because they don't take a stand on anything.

Yes, Christine O'Donnell is nuts and she won't win anything. She still served her purpose by purging a major RINO from the party.

I'm not claiming the current GOP leadership to be nuts, but they sure as hell will be by 2012.

It is going to be a major clusterf**ck and one I'm going to selfishly enjoy reporting on.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, not this year.
