Viewers were shocked yesterday when Dr. Laura Schlessinger called Sarah Palin the "C" word 11 times in an interview on Fox News. Neil Cavuto, the TV host, tried desperately to change the subject but Dr. Laura kept returning to Palin as if obsessed by the subject. Control booth personnel speculated that she was "on something" or at best frustrated by the fact that Palin had come to her defense in the recent controversy regarding her use of the "N" word. Schlessinger has been critical of Palin in the past.
Palin's followers were furious. "I will never listen to Dr. Laura again and she should be banned from all media for her sexist comments," said a signed letter by two thousand of Palin's supporters. Internal memos from Fox show that Rupert Murdoch put her on the "hit list" and the mere mention of her name would subject the transgressor to immediate dismissal.
Dr. Laura has replied late today in a Twitter post apologizing for her use of the "C" word. "I really wanted to say "cute" in regard to Sarah," said Schlessinger. "They are both four letter words. you know. I wasn't thinking properly and I had just come from an interview with Senator John McCain about the 2008 presidential campaign. I guess that word was still on my mind. I certainly hope Sarah won't be a real cunt about this!
