Climate scientists struggle to explain warming slowdown Post Date: 2013-04-16 22:39:22 by jwpegler

Scientists are struggling to explain a slowdown in climate change that has exposed gaps in their understanding and defies a rise in global greenhouse gas emissions. Often focused on century-long trends, most climate models failed to predict that the temperature rise would slow, starting around 2000. Scientists are now intent on figuring out the causes and determining whether the respite will be brief or a more lasting phenomenon. Getting this right is essential for the short and long-term planning of governments and businesses ranging from energy to construction, from agriculture to insurance. Many scientists say they expect a revival of warming in coming years. Theories for the pause ...

CCBanks 11 hours ago − "in light of the fact that circumstances surrounding Martins death remain controversial, while the details surrounding the children of Sandy Hook do not." This is a RACIST LIE. I guess I should't expect anymore from you people here, after all, I've read the voluminous posts blaming this teen for his own death! The "Facts" are these. White kids innocently sitting in a school were killed to most reasonable people that's a shame. A black kid innocently walking down the f-ING STREET was KILLED. To most reasonable people THAT'S a shame. But only a RACIST SCUM-BAG of which there are MANY on this site, would try ...
Herman Cain: 'Don't call me a Republican' Post Date: 2013-04-16 10:24:56 by Thunderbird

Washington (CNN) As the Republican Party struggles with ways to attract more African-Americans to its party, one of their own former, African-American presidential candidates could throw a wrench in their plan. Herman Cain insisted Monday he does not want to be called Republican for fear of being saddled with the "dumb things" Republicans have said in the past. Cain also said the black conservative movement is "different from the Republican brand." To be sure, Cain is not straying from his conservative stances. Instead, he hopes to entice even more African-Americans to join the black conservative movement. Yet Cain insisted that'll happen by black ...

Abilify and other newer drugs may cause increased violence Post Date: 2013-04-15 00:34:56 by A K A Stone

Violence has been a growing problem at Western State Hospital for years. If present trends continue, one in four of the Lakewood mental hospitals more than 1,700 workers can expect to be assaulted by a patient in 2007, according to the state Department of Labor and Industries. For years, hospital administrators have blamed the violence on familiar causes: not enough staff members, not enough money and increased societal violence that leads to the admission of more-violent patients. But they dont have the data to back up those assertions. A News Tribune analysis of drug-prescribing trends at Western since 1999 finds another possible factor: Western is giving more patients ...

So maybe I'm just a freak of nature, but I've noticed since I started to take the Abilify, that I'm seeing more and more shadow figures in my periphery. It's still sparse, but not as sparse as it used to be. I thought Abilify is supposed to get rid of hallucinations. Has anyone had this happen before or heard of it happening?? I'm on 5mg right now. Not sure what dose I'll be titrating up to. Only other psych drug I'm taking is Trazodone for sleep. 100mg Also the other day, I got more weird visual disturbances, i.e. swirls in the sky, which I always get no matter what, but were stronger (I think my eye filters light in a weird way and it's bouncing around ...
What is CISPA, and what does it mean for you? FAQ Post Date: 2013-04-15 00:13:14 by A K A Stone

Described as "misguided" and "fatally flawed" by the two largest U.S. privacy groups, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) threatens the online privacy of ordinary U.S. residents more so than any other bill since Congress amended the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act in 2008. A lot of confusion still surrounds what CISPA can do, who it affects, and what it will practically achieve. Here's what you need to know. What is CISPA? CISPA, known officially as H.R. 624, is a cybersecurity bill currently going through the motions in the lower house of Congress, the U.S. House of Representatives. It is designed to help prevent and defend against ...
Oregon man in Possession of 13 Million Gallons of Illicit Rainwater Sentenced to Jail Post Date: 2013-04-15 00:09:00 by A K A Stone

OREGON An Oregon resident with 3 massive man-made ponds on his property is sentenced to 30 days in jail after being found guilty (again) of collecting rainwater without a permit. Ive taken a look at some mighty impressive rainwater collection systems in the past, but it appears that Gary Harrington, 64, takes the proverbial cake when it comes to hoarder-esque rainwater collection activities: over the years, the Oregon resident has built three massive reservoirs in actuality, theyre more like proper man-made ponds on his 170-acre property on Crowfoot Road in rural Eagle Point that hold roughly 13 million gallons of rainwater and snow runoff. Thats ...

Civil war battle lines being drawn as Magpul, Colt, Beretta and other gun manufacturers relocate to pro-Constitution states Post Date: 2013-04-14 18:32:16 by A K A Stone

NaturalNews) A civil war looks likely to break out in America, and it will pit gun rights advocates (people who love liberty) against gun control zealots (people who hate freedom and love tyranny). The battle lines are being drawn right now as gun manufacturers are leaving anti-Constitution states like Connecticut and Colorado and relocating to pro-Constitution states like Texas and Arizona. Why does this matter? Because in effect, the anti-Constitution states are disarming themselves by expatriating weapons manufacturers. Thus, they are eliminating their own weapons infrastructure and leaving themselves relatively defenseless should a civil war occur. States like Texas and Wyoming, where ...
Louisiana Cops Arrest Man for Video Recording Them in Public Post Date: 2013-04-14 12:03:31 by A K A Stone

Police in Louisiana continued to reveal that gangster cop attitude that has become so visible in this country thanks to the advent of online videos. It was only a few years ago that we were forced to take the word of police on the facts that lead up to an arrest. Now were seeing a systematic thug-like attitude within the police ranks throughout almost every law enforcement agency in the country because more and more citizens are asserting their right to record in public. The latest case comes from Louisiana, as we can see in a Live Leak video that was posted 14 hours ago at this time although it is not clear when it was recorded nor when. It shows that a man sitting in his own car ...

Bill Maher opened up the panel discussion on his show tonight talking about recent developments on gun control in the Senate. He lamented how liberals have basically conceded the gun argument to the center-right, saying that liberals to a certain degree also indulge in the fetishization of guns, and declaring that someone on the left needs to stand up and say that the Second Amendment is bullshit. Maher noticed how much the Senate compromise bill focusing on background checks goes out of its way to make sure gun owners are protected, while accepting that things like an assault weapons ban are basically dead on arrival. Former Obama campaign manager Stephanie Cutter ...
Gun Control or Pre-Gun Confiscation? Post Date: 2013-04-13 20:31:28 by A K A Stone

Gun control is probably the most cunning and dangerous oxymoron in use today. Real gun control is a father teaching his child how to hold, shoot, and care for his firearms properly. The gun control currently spreading across America would more aptly be called pre-gun confiscation or even more extreme, pre-genocide. History reveals many examples of nations that confiscated guns, leading to the extermination of millions of it citizens. This isnt a new phenomena or an idea that gun lovers have made up; its happened for generations. In the Twentieth Century alone, there were between 74.2 and 79.8 million people killed after their governments confiscated their guns. ...
'Ancient scourge' no more? Bed bugs thwarted by bean leaves in study Post Date: 2013-04-12 22:12:22 by A K A Stone

Bed bugs have re-emerged as an urban blight in the past several years, forcing people out of homes, resisting chemical pesticides and evading other removal tactics. But researchers are building bug-catchers inspired by an age-old folk remedy to this ancient scourge: kidney bean leaves. Their experiments, described in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface, tested the home-grown solution and even made synthetic leaves that could help scientists devise an easy, environmentally friendly method of trapping bugs before they establish a full invasion. Bean leaves have historically been used in Eastern Europe as low-tech bug traps: bed bugs wandering a floor strewn with the ...

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal (R) has refused through a spokesperson to endorse one towns first-ever integrated high school prom, saying that he would rather not take sides on the issue. According to Atlantas WMAZ Channel 13, politicians from both parties have stated their support for black and white students from Wilcox, Georgia, but Deal declined to join them. Raw Story spoke to activist Bryan Long of the progressive group Better Georgia, whose group has asked Georgia elected officials to publicly support the students of Wilcox County who are fighting to end a separate-but-equal high school prom. We thought it would be nice if our elected officials ...

With School Choice, Liberals are not Pro-Choice Written on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 by David L. Goetsch It turns out that pro-choice liberals are not so pro-choice after allespecially on issues other than abortion. According to pro-choice liberals it is acceptable for a mother to abort her unborn child, but it is not acceptable for the same mother to choose where her living child will go to school. Contradictions such as this are common in the rarified atmosphere of liberal elitism. Such contradictions in logic are bound to happen when liberals manipulate the English language for their own nefarious purposes. When the English language is used to distort the truth those distortions ...

By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | April 12th, 2013 at 04:30 AM Had Kermit Gosnell killed dogs, HLN would be giving it wall to wall coverage as they do all sorts of sensational trials. Nancy Grace would be in full outrage mode every night. Last night on twitter, Dave Weigel of Slate noted he was just hearing from twitterers about the gruesome trial of Kermit Gosnell. Those who care about the story owe a tremendous debt to Kirsten Powers taking to the pages of USA Today to write about it. It is fascinating how much of a bubble the media lives in with that bubble so DC-NYC centric. It is again one of the problems for news organizations ...
Growth of suburbs in pro-gun states changing the political calculus in Congress Post Date: 2013-04-12 00:33:23 by Ferret Mike

Pennsylvania, Georgia and Virginia have long been bastions of gun-rights supporters, with vast rural areas and strong hunting traditions. But in recent days, lawmakers from those states have demonstrated a new willingness to back stricter firearms regulations, setting the stage for what could be the first major gun-control legislation to pass Congress in two decades. The shift underscores a new reality of gun politics in America: The rapid growth of suburbs in historically gun-friendly states is forcing politicians to cater to the more centrist and pragmatic views of voters in subdivisions and cul-de-sacs as well as to constituents in shrinking rural hamlets where gun ownership is more of ...
